Shocked, appalled, and heartbroken by the events that took place today in Parkland. My heart and prayers go out to the students, their friends and families, and anyone else touched by this tragedy. Florida Senator Marco Rubio ranks third among US politicians for NRA sponsorship. He and his peers’ willingness to turn a blind eye to outdated and increasingly dangerous policies has now left innocent teenagers from my own community needlessly dead and injured. My fellow Floridians: if today’s events - and the hundreds of other school shootings in this millennium alone - don’t make it crystal clear that our current gun laws need some major remodeling, I don’t know what will. This was our backyard. These are our children. It’s time that we finally stand up to our profit-driven state and national governments and demand a change. It shouldn’t have to happen to you for you to want to make a change. Do so now before you have the chance to end up in a situation like this one.
