I think the core difference between AOS Kirk and TOS Kirk this month is that AOS Kirk could be found in the middle of a pride parade in a slutty crop top and TOS Kirk could instead be found at the nearest pride themed wine tasting

A fun statistics fact!
Star trek the original series has 79 Episodes (not counting the pilot)
Of those episodes, there are 57 away missions
Of those away missions 44 of them contain both Kirk and Spock
Meaning that there were 44 chances for a single away mission gone wrong to leave Sulu permanently in charge of the ship. 44 chances for the ship to be left without the Captain and first officer.
Oh and there were 24 away missions that did not include any security personnel
Including the time that they sent Kirk, Spock and McCoy ALONE to a planet where multiple other members of senior staff were missing, and the one person from the previous away mission to be seen since leaving the ship came back, collapsed onto the transporter pad, and died. If that away mission had gone wrong (which had very high chances of happening thanks to the lack of security) the ship would have had basically no senior staff left
Was reading a garashir fic and got distracted by Cardassian world building again.
There's something so fascinating about the culture that is usually depicted in fanfiction being one that reveres children so heavily because of their emphasis on the future of the civilization being maintained, but is also so deeply controlling of their citizens that we have to expect that that extends to the children.
What do Cardassian elementary schools look like? I would guess they would be highly regimented, separating children into career paths very young and using things such as what toy they select or what games they play as a child to predict their future interests.
I think one of the core differences between SNW and TOS is that for Kirk and Spock in TOS, the genre didn't exist as a larger cultural concept yet, so all the tropes were new or massively twisted from their usual uses. However in SNW, the genre they exist in has existed for decades, parodied, and deconstructed so Pike and SNW Spock come across as very genre savvy, as if they know Al the tropes that exist as well as we do.
This isnt star trek related, but it's pretty damn close!

Thinking about in the pale moonlight again and once again going insane about how through every step, every moment leading up to the moment where Sisko's morals fundamentally break, every tiny step towards that decision was logical, perfectly reasonable. At almost no points is the viewer realizing where this might head until suddenly you get there and star trek is changed forever by it
A fic? By me? What a shock
All we know is falling (In Love)
Over 20 years in Kirk and Spock's life, they see performances of a lot of Paramore break up songs, who knew it would bring then together
