My personal Google replacement apps/services

Because what they are really selling is you, to advertisers. Which means the information they're showing to you, and the information you're storing on their services benefits paying advertisers more than it benefits you.

I know there are probably others out there, and lots of people probably know about these already but these are the ones that have worked for me, personally. If you want to switch away from google, try these out.

Search: Kagi. Yes, I spend $10 a month on this. Yes, it's worth it for ACTUAL USEFUL SEARCH RESULTS. That I can trust aren't at the top of the search because they paid money to the search company. Without adds. With listicles in their their own little section.

Mail & Calendar: Proton Mail and Calendar. Free/paid upgrade. Works pretty similar to google mail and calendar, more limited unless you pay, but the paid accounts are pretty cheap, and the free versions are 100% useable. They do not store your encryption code/password, so they cannot look at your information. Plus if they start saving money on how a particular service runs, THEY LOWER PRICES. Love that.

Maps: Magic Earth. Free on android (dunno about iPhone). Gives you a lot more information on the map than google maps. Perfectly good navigation while driving. Just picked this one up yesterday, but I'm really loving it so far.

You have three really good options:

Bing -- www.bing.com

Yahoo! -- www.yahoo.com

DuckDuckGo -- www.duckduckgo.com

I’ve been testing all three for months in prep for this day. My selection should not influence yours. I won’t tell you, because I use them all randomly.

DuckDuckGo has active filtration, but it’s largely around pr0n. So if you’re looking for that, go elsewhere. Yes, I was extensive in my testing. I’m uncertain of what engine they’re using, because it awfully feels like Google on the backend... but if that’s the case then it’s just hooking their API. If you want to wean yourself off Google but are afraid of missing out on your favorite rando typing -- this is a good step down the road to admitting you’re a Googleholic.

Yahoo! is just as you remember it, if not better. Performing searches results in unbiased results being quickly returned. You pick your path, it doesn’t care and it doesn’t tailor you to consistently travel that same road. This ensures you won’t find yourself in an echo chamber and can actually think for yourself! Key point to mention, they have SJWs working there because it’s San Hoe in the Bay Area, my point is referring to their search engine being neutral. Their news also tries to pull from different viewpoints. Their SJWs apparently demanded to have a page or two for their own pickle tickle...

Bing has undergone some consistent effort to remain neutral as well, however, the tailoring pushes you back from your path. This is opposite of Google, where it pushes you further down the path. Bing is not to be confused with MSNBC. Bing doesn’t care what you want to look for, as long as it’s legal.

What are reliable, viable alternatives to Google Maps and Google Translate (as in the app, which can use your camera to read foreign text and translate it to your language)? Those are pretty much the only things I use Google for now
