My heart is wrenched! So many sordid testimonies of gender based violence and femicide in our communities! The Mamelodi Thuthuzela Care Centre, which we visited today together with Deputy Minister of Police, Mr Mathale, Gauteng MEC of Social Development, Ms Mosopyoe, and MEC of Community Safety, Ms Mazibuko, caters for an average of 50 sexual offences in a month. The number is increasing. The people who are supposed to look after us, who are suppose to be our partners, are turning the sword on us as women. We have to deal with this contradictions in society and build a new narrative that will assist in rebuilding the moral fibre of our society. I was encouraged by the testimonies of two women who have conquered gender based violence. These women are exampler and have chosen to use their experiences to help other women. I had a working lunch with the leadership of the Aviation Development Africa. We discussed possible partnerships and transformation in the Aviation space. In the past month, we have visited various stakehlders to engage with them on possible initiatives for socio-economic recovery. In all our visits, to traditional leaders, Iconic artists such as Dr Ester Mahlangu, and private sector, we are enthused by the commitment to work with government in the socio-economic recovery. Today was special because together with Department of Planning Monitoring & Evaluation (DPME) visited the Stanger Textile Industry in Kwadukuza, the only producer of woven insulation for electrical industry in the country. The factory also produces laces for all kinds of shoes. During our visit, they have expressed their gratitude that government was able to assist them with the relief funds. Today we concluded our Heritage Month by visiting a world renowned artists, Dr Ester Mahlangu. Our intention was to celebrate her as our living legend and to engage with her on her own initiatives to transfer the skills to young people. She expressed her wish for an art school. Our team at the DPME will follow up with the relevant stakeholders to ensure that the school is completed while she lives. We were amazed to see her guesthouse which in itself embodies the Ndebele culture.
