Knock knock.

Byakuya Ishigami perked up from the awkward angle he was hunched over his laptop in, turning his attention away from the endless amount of emails from students and colleagues alike and toward the sound coming from the end of the hall. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion as he turned away from the hall and toward the clock on the kitchen wall in front of him. It wasn’t too late…

“Was I expecting someone?” 

Rapid muffled foot stomps thudded down the hall and toward the front door where the knocking was coming from. “It’s for me!” 

The owner of the second voice made a sharp u-turn as he propelled himself toward the front door. He straightened his posture and adjusted the sleek white lab coat he wore before opening the door. On the other side stood a cheery kid around his age holding the handle of a yellow toolbox with both hands, and who’s small smile widened upon meeting face to face with their friend.

“Hiya, Senku! I hope I’m not too late!” 

The latter, Senku, chuckled and stepped to the side to allow you to enter the apartment.

“You’re right on time.” 

“Hi, Y/N!”

“Hello, Mr. Ishigami, sir!” 

“Senku! You didn’t tell me you were inviting someone over! I could’ve made food!” 

“You would’ve burned the house down.” 

You laughed beside Senku, the two of you now standing side by side in front of the boy’s father for you to properly greet him. 

“We’ve got work to do, Y/N! C’mon!” 

Senku hurried toward his room and you went to follow, turning around with an apologetic look on your face. “Sorry for the unexpected drop-in. Nice to see you again, Mr. Ishigami!” 

“Wait! You two didn’t let me know if you want food or not!” 

The teacher received no reply from either his eccentric son or his cheerful friend, and he sat down after rising halfway up his chair with a small smile on his face, mumbling “kids…” before resuming the work on his laptop. 

“I got all the stuff you asked for!” You held your toolbox up with one hand, its contents cluttering loudly. Senku’s room was filled with all sorts of gadgets for the project you two had been working on. On his desk, a variety of different tech parts were scattered, and his laptop revealed multiple tabs of code and other analytics. 

“Wheels?”

“Yes!”

“Voicebox?”

“Yes!”

“Paint?”

“And brushes! I got some sprays, too.”

Senku smirked and chuckled yet again as he took the box from you and rummaged through the supplies. “Good job! Now we can finally finish the robot!” He laid out a thin, dull purple blanket on his floor and moved his computer parts from the desk to the floor. “What are we waiting for? Let’s get started!” 

Ever since the two of you were kids, you and Senku bonded over your mutual love of science. Senku was an extravagant kid who never failed to leave a lasting impression with his projects and experiments. Not only that, but his resolve and excitement only made him more attractive to you. For Senku, such a bright and intelligent person was exactly someone he’d get along well with. Your creativity and drive for passion was what drew him in, especially since you both promised each other excitement and indulgence. 

You visiting Senku was not uncommon, but despite how much you frequent his house to work on his experiments, the giddiness he feels when he hears the doorbell signaling your arrival has never gone away. 

The end goal today was simple- finish building a robot from scratch. Senku’s blueprints showed a detailed diagram of a tiny robot a little bigger than the size of a hand, its body a short, white rectangular prism (with stylish blue stripes- your addition) and a cube attached on the top side to make a head. Two eyes would be placed on either side of its head and two wheels on either side of the body. 

When Senku first presented you the blueprint, you were in awe and immediately eager to get started, asking questions about where to begin and what parts were needed.

And so that very same day, you walked with Senku to his apartment and had a similar encounter with Byakuya a week ago as you did today. Senku walked you through all the steps; programming the robot, building it, and operating it. There were many errors along the way- in the programming and the building, but the two of you took turns working on each aspect over the span of a week. 

And this evening a week later was finally the day you two would finish. 

“We made all the adjustments…”

“Do you think it’ll finally work?”

“Only one way to find out.”

You and Senku nervously hunched around the tiny robot on Senku’s bedroom floor. It sat unmoving and waiting to be operated. It looked exactly like Senku’s blueprints- four wheels, two on each side for the robot to move around, and two eyes that were currently closed. You and Senku exchanged a glance before Senku took a deep breath and leaned in slightly. 

“Rei?” 

The robotic eyes blinked to reveal small black circles behind its artifical eyelids. The bot slowly turned around to face Senku. “Hello, Ishigami Senku!” It then titled its head toward you. “Hello, L/N Y/N!” 

The two of you turned toward each other and let out gasps of excitement. The robot was finally a success! You leaned toward your friend, laughing joyfully while he stared at you with a toothy grin. 

“I can’t believe we did it…!” You cried as you straightened up, stretching your arms above your head. “We actually finished faster than I anticipated!”

“Science requires patience and diligence. With both, you can ten billion percent reach your end goal in no time.”

You smiled and titled your head. “Your passion and dedication is amazing, Senku. I’m always in awe of you.” You laughed, and Senku stared at you with a small smile. 

You say that about him, but you’re more the person Senku will ever be. You're so very kind and motivating, things he knows you’d argue he is as well. Throughout every step you’ve stuck by Senku’s side, working alongside him to finish this project. Never once did you suggest abandoning it and you never once shied away from the challenge. After every setback, you would tell him that the two of you just needed to keep at it, provoking brainstorms by asking questions. Your endless enthusiasm and unwavering resolve was exactly why Senku liked you so much. 

And Senku wanted you to know it, so he decided to leave you a message.  

For a while, Senku had been fighting down romantic feelings for you, and try as he might, everyone, especially Senku, knew that he is no fighter. And so after losing the battle of denial, Senku came to terms with his feelings. Getting rid of them wasn’t an option, and so he’s been anticipating the best way to execute his next solution- confessing.

His thought process? If he confessed, he could move on quicker. The faster any subconscious thought of reciprocation was shut down, the quicker he could get these feelings to pass entirely. And so he didn’t put much thought into his confession. He figured he could just pull you aside one day and confess in the most unromantic way that would be sure to have him rejected, and the two of you could move on with your friendship. But over time, the thought of giving you, his sweet best friend who constantly goes the extra mile for him, such an unthoughtful confession made guilt swirl in his stomach and his feelings for you grow more and more. 

And after some time, Senku realized that he didn’t want to get turned down. He wanted to make you smile. He wanted to stay by your side as something more. He wanted to impress you the best way he knew how- with science. And so a half-assed confession wasn’t going to cut it. Suddenly, he went from rolling his eyes at the thought of just pulling you to the side to thinking of the most memorable and meaningful way to confess.

And Rei was his answer.

Rei represented the best parts of yourselves, both as individuals and as partners. She represented something greater- all of the experiments and projects the two of you worked on together, where you both showcased your creativity, innovativeness and brilliance through a combination of your strengths. Rei was a representation of all the fun the two of you have together, not only while working on projects, but while indulging in mutual interests, while talking about even the most mundane events. Rei represented easy conversation and collaboration between you two- something so important in relationships.

What could be a more fitting way to confess?

So during the process, he programmed a way to send you a message. But of course, it couldn’t be something so direct. Rei represented the mutual love you two have for everything science related, so why not make this fun? 

After an exhausting couple of hours entirely dedicated to finishing Rei by fixing a couple of bugs, the two of you were ecstatic but worn out. Hungry, you suggested going to a ramen joint not too far from Senku’s home for a celebratory meal. 

“My treat! Your dad seemed pretty concerned with making sure we were fed.” You joked, and Senku let out an airy laugh. 

“Sure. I’ll be right there.”

He watched you walk out of his room and down the hall to the exit. He stared back at Rei on the floor, contemplating his next steps. He approached the robot and crouched down in front of it. 

“Rei?”

Rei whirred to life.

“Hello, Ishigami Senku! You have one undelivered message. Would you like me to discard?”

“No. Send the message.”

“Who is your recipient?”

“L/N Y/N.”

Rei beeped a couple of times as she continued staring at Senku. With a final swoosh and a short tune-  “Message sent to L/N Y/N!” 

As you were slipping on your shoes at the front door, oblivious to what Senku was up to, you noticed him approaching you with Rei in his hand.

“Oh, taking Rei with you?”

You grew more confused when he suddenly placed the robot in your hand. “Keep her safe, will ya?”

You looked between Senku and Rei, stunned for a moment before giving the scientist a wide, toothy smile. “You’re letting me have her? Thank you so much!” 

That night, you thought you’d familiarize yourself a bit with Rei’s features. After getting ready for the night, you placed Rei under the bright gaze of your desk lamp and sat crossed legged in your desk chair. Upon turning her on however, you were surprised that the first thing Rei had said to you was…

“Hello, Y/N! You have one unopened message from Ishigami Senku.” 

Huh. Why did Senku add this to the robot? Was it just part of the fun? You were amazed thinking of all the features Senku must’ve added for his own personal touch, or just out of curiosity and experimentation. 

“What’s the message?” 

Rei blinked once before she whirred and started playing an audio recording. There were a couple of clicks, and then pauses. Clicks and pauses. At first you were confused, thinking there was some sort of malfunction, and then…

“Morse code?” 

You had interrupted Senku in the midst of learning morse code in the science club room one day and invited yourself to join him, finding it fascinating. From then on, the two of you would occasionally challenge each other to translate what the other was saying by sending each other messages in class. Sometimes it got competitive, and other times you would hit Senku when he’d playfully tease or insult you. 

Smiling, you pulled out a notebook and a pen to keep track of the letters. You listened carefully, trying to catch every click and pause.

Two clicks. That’s an I.

A click. A long pause. Two more clicks. L.

Another two clicks. I again.

A pause, a click, a pause. That was a K, right?

A singular click. E. 

You listened a little while longer, asking Rei if she was capable of rewinding the audio (she was!), and confirming some of your original answers. 

As you got closer to deciphering the message, your heart started to race. You reread the message you had written down over and over till the words stopped processing in your head. Did you mishear? You must’ve gotten something wrong. But after going back and replaying the message multiple times, rewriting it once and twice and thrice more, you were certain this was the message given. Even so, there was just no way Senku of all people would be sending you a message that read...

 I-L-I-K-E-Y-O-U. 

You had a lot to say to Senku the next day.

That Doesn't Count

The tension between Cosmo and Homura has been abundantly obvious ever since Hyoga started personally training Cosmo one on one. Cosmo was unaware of the reason behind the tension for the longest time, so it never occurred to him that Homura had noticed his feelings for Hyoga. Especially since Hyoga started “bluffing” and pretending like he was going to kiss Cosmo for training. Cosmo only assumed it was to catch him off guard, and he brushed off the possibility that Hyoga would ever return feelings for him. But, that being the case, why did Homura even hate Cosmo for having feelings for Hyoga in the first place, especially with no chance of reciprocation? Cosmo often wondered that, leading up to him being revived on Treasure Island. Thinking back to his first revival, Homura was always giving Hyoga a more longing or soft face. At first he thought that maybe Homura saw him as a brother figure or something, but then it hit him.

Homura also had romantic feelings for Hyoga. He remembered that for the longest time, before he was re-petrified, whenever he visited them in the brig, Homura would always butt into the conversations that he would have with Hyoga. It made sense now. They were probably already together, so maybe she was defensive. Not that he would blame her. What frustrated Cosmo, in this moment, was that Homura was not outright saying anything, and she was once again sitting and glaring at him. Surely, it wasn’t obvious that they were together, especially with the stunts Hyoga pulled during training. It also wasn’t obvious because they never hugged each other or anything. There was no sign of affection. There were times where Hyoga even seemed oblivious to how Homura looked at him. Maybe that was their dynamic? Cosmo had no clue.

“Hey, uh… Listen,” Cosmo starts, after finally pulling Homura aside. “I don’t mean to intrude on your relationship with him, if that’s why you hate me so much. He doesn’t even seem actually interested in me.”

“I don’t hate you,” Homura responds. “I just don’t want you getting too close to Hyoga. That’s all I ask.”

“I understand. Besides, he most definitely isn’t into guys, anyway, so I’d have no chance,” Cosmo says, laughing nervously. 

Homura looks down, sadness looming in her eyes. “He and I aren’t in a relationship yet, actually. But I want us to be.”

“Well, take it from me, you have a better chance than I do,” Cosmo replies confidently. “Besides, he has no reason to ever find out I’m in love with him anyway.”

Homura looks up and smiles softly, about to thank him, before realizing that Hyoga had just walked up behind Cosmo as he said that. Cosmo tilts his head in confusion, before turning around and jumping.

“Th-that doesn’t count as a confession!” He blurts out, defensively. “Y-you didn’t hear anything!”

Hyoga just stood there, shocked. Cosmo, having no more defenses for himself, runs off, leaving Hyoga and Homura alone together. Hyoga and Homura just stared at each other in utter confusion, before Hyoga walks away, trying to process what he heard. He remained quiet for most of the night, and it didn’t go unnoticed, especially since Cosmo was nowhere to be found. 

Hyoga checked all over the ship, to no success. He then left the ship, checked the group of people partying on the island, once again to no avail. Hyoga then asks around, but only one person had actually seen where Cosmo went: Gen. 

“Yeah, I saw him, dear Hyoga,” Gen chirps, gleefully. “But I’ll only tell you where he is, if you tell me why you need to know~”

“I had a feeling you were going to ask,” Hyoga sighs. “Is it really any of your business?”

“Weeeeell, it would help motivate me into remembering exactly where dear Cosmo went!” Gen teases. “After all, I would have to know why he’d run away from you of all people, given his strong eelings-fae for you~”

“That’s what I wanted to talk to him about, actually,” Hyoga admits. “I overheard what he said to Homura, and I wanted to confirm it for myself.”

“Oh? He talked to Homura about his love for you? How sweet!”

“Do you have to be so loud?” Hyoga asks, annoyed. “Please just tell me where he went.”

“Right this way~” Gen leads Hyoga to a lonely spot on the beach, where they can both see Cosmo sitting alone in the sand. “He certainly looks lonely, doesn’t he, Hyoga?”

“At least I know he is okay,” Hyoga responds. “Did he say anything before coming here?”

“I don’t remember…” Gen shrugs, smiling slyly. “Perhaps you could be more ecific-spae as to what you mean? What would he say to little ol’ me?”

Hyoga started to get a little more irked at Gen’s nosiness. “Maybe a reason as to why he wanted to be alone?”

“Nope! He just said he wanted to be alone~ That’s all I have for you! Maybe you can ask him yourself why he ran away?” Gen starts pushing Hyoga towards Cosmo, and Hyoga resists.

“No! I need to approach this topic properly!” Hyoga yells, pushing back. “What if I blurted out to him that I feel the same way?!”

Gen stops pushing, and grins. “Oho?! Really? That’s what you’re orried-way about?”

“What do you mean now?” Hyoga groans. Gen points to behind Hyoga, where Cosmo was standing, staring at them both, shocked. Hyoga tenses up. “A-as you said… that doesn’t count…”

“I’ll leave you two to talk things over.” Gen then immediately runs off. 

The small area filled with awkwardness as both Hyoga and Cosmo stared at each other. Neither of them knew what to say. Neither of them knew what to do. They both walked back to the party without saying another word. Eventually, the celebrations calmed down, and everyone split off for the night. The Kingdom of Science onto the Perseus, and the villagers back to their homes. Cosmo sat and watched Hyoga and Moz train together. The tension made it hard for Hyoga to be able to focus, and Cosmo noticed. Actually, everybody in the area noticed. However, nobody was willing to bring it up, at risk of Hyoga possibly turning on everyone. Not that he actually would, given he had Cosmo to stay for. Their feelings were obvious to everyone except each other.

okay i absolutely adored this request and went in with the intention of trying to write comedy and accidentally make it slightly angsty??!!! (happy ending though i promise.) admittedly i found this surprisingly challenging to write- i've said before that i'm not very confident with my characterization of ryusui and that's probably pretty evident in this oneshot, but nevertheless i hope you still enjoy!

synopsis: he desires everything, including you--and it makes you nervous.

You didn’t know what it would take to get Ryusui off your back.

Before the two of you became friends, you were certain that Ryusui Nanami was one of the most insufferable people you’ve ever met, always on about desire this and desire that. His arrogance infuriated you. ‘How is anyone supposed to work with this guy?’ you would think to yourself. Over time however, you realized that beneath his selfish and sometimes harsh exterior, Ryusui is a caring guy with a lot of ambition and determination who genuinely loves people and what the world has to offer. In some ways, you could relate to his way of thinking, but it didn’t make his overbearing desires and booming voice any less irritating.

The two of you eventually became decent friends through the work you put into building the Perseus, and even closer friends through your adventures together with the rest of the crew. But something you found strange about your relationship with Ryusui was that, even though you disliked him quite a bit when the two of you were mere strangers, he’s always liked you. 

This shouldn’t be too weird; as said, Ryusui loves people. No matter who they are or how long he’s known them, Ryusui can always find something to like about someone, which you couldn’t help but respect about him from the beginning. But Ryusui always presented his desires for a person in a way that was seen as admiration and awe of them. While he presented his desire to want you in this way as well, he later also started presenting his desire for you in a romantic way you observed he didn’t desire anyone else. 

At some point, Ryusui Nanami realized that he desired you as a romantic partner. What caught you off guard one day was the fact that he told you. 

This weird proclamation came from him when you confronted his bold and “special” treatment toward you. He often offered you heaps of Drago for the most trivial things you did, claiming they were worthy of the money he bestowed upon you. He encouraged you to use the money to buy an outfit you had eyed from Senku’s department store or some cotton candy, occasionally even making purchases for you. He’d invite you to bask in his luxuries together, setting up a chair for you beside him with members of the Kingdom of Science feeding and cooling you down after a hard day's work. If there was something you had mentioned you wanted, or hell, even liked or loved, Ryusui would take a mental note of it and look for ways to obtain it. Flowers by a hillside you thought were pretty? A bouquet will show up by your tent. Mumbling out loud about how you could use some fresh tools? An assortment of polished ones will be gifted to you by Ryusui himself. You were confused and taken aback by the sudden affection, and blunt as ever, Ryusui responded “In truth, Y/N, I desire you as my partner, and I want you by my side!”

Ryusui desires the Earth, heavens and seas. He seemingly wants every conceivable item, skill and trait, and he isn’t shy about these bold desires; he never has been. So even though this proclamation was no different than the rest, it still surprised you just the same. He wanted you as a partner? 

And so that’s what led to your current dilemma: you didn’t know what it would take to get Ryusui off your back. 

You’ve heard from Minami about how Ryusui was rarely seen without the company of a beautiful girl. He was constantly around them and dubbed a playboy by the media before the petrification. No way he’s loyal. 

“What can I tell you; I love everyone! But in this day and age, I love you, and only you--romantically.”

Sure, you two knew each other a fair amount, but you’ve still only just met. Plus, you have an important mission ahead of the two of you. Won’t a relationship interfere with that?

“Then let me get to know you more, Y/N. I want you to be mine. No journey or grueling mission will change that.” 

And when Ryusui Nanami desires something, he’s determined to obtain it or make it come to fruition. But you were still reluctant, and so you turned him down.

Every attempt at flirting was shut down, every date offer was rejected, and gifts were either politely returned or hesitantly kept because of Ryusui's insistence. All these failures would surely have the average person give it up and get over the rejection. But this was Ryusui Nanami, and he was confident that you just needed time to come around. 

With the help of Francois, Ryusui went full out trying to win you over. He asked Francois to make you your favorite foods, he complimented you frequently, whether it was your appearance, a thought you shared or something you did, and in small ways looked after you.

There were many times when you really were in awe of him. He always did his best to look out for you, in and out battle, sometimes even preventing you from sustaining major injuries or helping you recuperate after you take on too much work.

But then he’d open his mouth and say something like “after all this is done, we should wind down in my quarters” and you’d scoff and move away from him while he'd either laugh or stare at you with a small frown. When you’re struggling with something, he’s always quick to be the first one to come to your aid, and yeah, you notice how he takes every chance he gets to stand obnoxiously close to you.

However, Ryusui never takes his antics too far. As soon as you shoot him a dirty look, he's inches away from you and putting his hands up in mock surrender. He’s not focusing all his attention on trying to win you over; after all, you two are a part of the Perseus crew for good reason. But any chance Ryusui gets to charm you, he’ll take.

“I clean up nice, am I wrong, Y/N?” 

When it came down to deciding what route to take to America, while you understood the realistic approach Ryusui wanted to take, you agreed with Senku’s more logical plan of action. What you didn’t expect was a game of poker to be initiated in order to decide who’s plan will be executed. 

“I’m hurt you’re siding with Senku on this one, but you’ll thank me for saving you from the burden of Senku’s route once I win.” Ryusui seemed to have the utmost confidence that he’d reign victorious with Gen Asagiri, the master of trickery and deceit, on his side, but you had to suppress your smile when his jaw dropped as Kohaku seated herself beside Senku. With Kohaku’s sharp eyes, she’d be able to spot and put a stop to any dirty moves Gen tries to pull. A tense game ensued, and your gaze shifted between eyeing Ryusui and Gen’s wicked grins and Senku and Kohaku’s skeptical expressions. In the end, as you had predicted, Senku had won the game, which meant that his plan would be put to action. As cheers erupted from the crew watching and money was tossed around in the air from the bets made beforehand, Ryusui reluctantly turned his head toward you, and you had to muffle your laughter behind your hand upon seeing his dumbfounded expression as you rolled your eyes and left the riot.

You were surprised to hear that Ryusui’s shock and disappointment wore off quick after revealing that he and Francois had opened a casino for the entire crew to enjoy, which didn’t sound awful to you. The formal attire worn while playing poker inspired you to dress up a little for a fun night with your friends. How long had it been since you’ve had some modern fun? 

You sat by Bar Francois in formal wear that you and a couple members of the crew had bought from Yuzuriha before you left for your trip, laughing at the retelling of fond memories from the pre-petrification world and sipping on your drink every once in a while. It was the most calm and at home you felt in a long while, and you were silently grateful to the eccentric captain for the work he put into making the casino. When the conversation died down a little, Nikki, who was one of the people you had talked to about your situation with the sailor, shifted her gaze toward someone in the middle of the room. “Uh oh. Lover boy looks like he wants to make a move.” 

Your eyes followed Nikki’s gaze and you were suddenly met with Ryusui’s widened brown ones shining under the moonlight. For a moment, there was no movement from either one of you, but then Ryusui swallowed and made a slow beeline for you. Nikki quickly turned away when you nudged her for the inappropriate nickname. “Look, I completely understand why you keep turning him down but…who knows. Maybe a date won’t be so bad.”

And with that, she excused herself and walked off.

Ryusui had asked if the two of you could roam around the ship, away from everyone else, and you agreed, the exhaustion from the eventful night slowly catching up to you. Ryusui’s hands were clasped behind his back as he made conservation, taking into account your exhaustion and making sure you didn’t need to give him any lengthy responses to any of his comments or questions. 

Throughout the slightly one-sided conversation, Ryusui teased and flirted, as he always managed to do with you, and as you picked up on each charm attempt, you thought back to what Nikki had told you earlier that evening. “Maybe a date wouldn’t be so bad…”

“I’m glad to see you enjoying yourself in the casino. You look beautiful, as you always do, but seeing you in formal attire was a pleasant surprise. Perhaps next time you dress up will be for a date in my quarters?” 

You sighed deeply. This offer was unlike so many others Ryusui made. It wasn’t upfront and in your face, it wasn’t loud or grand. Hell, it almost seemed shy or- no- hopeful. You were staring down at Ryusui’s shoes, the confliction you felt evident on your face. Suddenly, you couldn’t hear the heels of Ryusui’s shoes clicking against the wooden floor as he walked alongside you. You stopped and turned around to see the captain with his head down. 

“Ryusui, I…” 

“I’m…sorry if I’ve forced you into a corner, Y/N. I never meant for my persistence to be overwhelming, I guess I didn’t expect to like you this much.” He laughed humourlessly staring at the ground, his hands still behind his back. You couldn’t find the words to consolidate him. You had never seen him so down.

But then he suddenly turned his head to look up at you and slowly started approaching you.

“Just one chance, Y/N,” one step. Two.

“I promise you,” another step.

“I won’t be wasting your time.”

He took one final step so he was standing directly in front of you. For a second, all the two of you did, could do, was stare at each other, your tired eyes examining Ryusui’s glimmering, hopeful ones. And then, without breaking eye contact, Ryusui pulls out a small bouquet of flowers. Ones you had seen on Treasure Island, which seemed to be preserved surprisingly well. You think you remember commenting on their beauty on one of your expeditions.

Up until tonight, Ryusui’s gestures have never been something you thought too deeply about; at least that’s what you tried to convince yourself. But now, Ryusui has confronted you with a billion percent seriousness. Maybe it was something about his flamboyant nature that made you uneasy and reluctant to even consider the possibility of being something more with him. Maybe it’s why you shoved down your thoughts and feelings, let your fears surface and become easy ways to excuse yourself. After all, you had plenty of those with the circumstances you two were in. 

Was he getting discouraged? Would this be his final attempt at winning you over? Knowing Ryusui, probably not. He seemed determined, but looking closer you could see his shoulders sagging, the grip on the flowers loose, as if he was sad. His face didn’t carry his usual boyish grin or dazzling smile. Only furrowed brows and a small frown. Admittedly, all you could really think was ‘is he serious?’ and stare in confusion. 

Ryusui’s eyes slowly trailed down to the flowers, and a dull ache spread over your heart started upon seeing his face slowly contort into one of disappointment. Maybe a date wouldn’t be so bad. 

And so as Ryusui was about to tell you that he wouldn’t give up on you, he heard you sigh and felt your fingers brush over his, watching you take the bouquet from his hands. His head jutted forward, and his mouth morphed into an “o” as his eyes found yours again, widening when you gave him a small smile.

“Oh, what the hell. So, dinner in your quarters, huh?”

him and s/o were working on some science experiment that involved some chemicals, so they had to be all geared up for safety purposes and stuff, but s/o didnt put their gloves on yet since they were working on something else (that dont involves chemicals)

and when they finished what they were doing, s/o was gonna handle the chemicals now BUTT forgot to wear the gloves senku gave her, and senku was to focused on what he was doing to notice

and then s/o spilled the chemicals on their hands and it got wounded/burned (or something similar to that), they tried to hide it from senku and he eventually notices the burns on s/o hands,

after that he tended s/o wounds/burns and slightly scolds them for forgetting to wear the gloves

disclaimer: i only did very brief research on chemical burns for this request. i'm not all that knowledgeable about them but im sure i downplayed them a LOT for this oneshot. please be careful around dangerous substances.

The Kingdom of Science had just completed their mission to acquire sulfuric acid, every stressful step paying off as now the roadblock the gang had encountered on their quest to make an antibiotic for Ruri was cleared, and the next steps could be taken to make further advances in medicine and chemistry altogether.

It was now possible to create many other substances, most, if not all, being just as highly toxic as the sulfuric acid itself. Hydrochloric acid, chlorosulfonic acid- their names as terrifying as their potential to turn a person into a sculling zombie (in the comforting words of Senku, the mastermind himself). You were one of the people who assisted the scientist with synthesizing chemicals in the lab.

As Senku knew you were capable of keeping up with the chemistry he was working with and taking care of yourself, he trusted you with handling this process alongside him. You, of all people, knew the importance of being careful around such dangerous substances. The two of you were in the lab, you, preparing to help Senku. You double checked that you had all the equipment you needed and started putting on your safety gear. 

After slipping on your googles, you turned to reach for where you settled your gloves, beside what you thought was an empty glass jar, when Senku suddenly cried out “be careful!”. Unfortunately, your mind processed these words too late as you couldn’t pull your hand back in time to avoid the previously clear, still substance inside from spilling over. Luckily, you were able to jump away and retract your hand before the substance could mark your entire hand. 

However, you still had an intense burn on the side of your hand. You hissed in pain as you held your wrist tightly with your uninjured hand, hunching over and squeezing your eyes shut. The burn sent your senses blazing, the sensation as if you were being engulfed by flame. The skin was starting to redden and blister, and the burn took shape, an alarming and foul sight. It was hard to believe that such a little amount of whatever toxic chemical was in that jar could be so severely painful. You couldn’t process your sudden scream or the tears that pricked your eyes over your overwhelmed senses, but at one point all at once, the crew barged into the lab and crowded around you, frantic voices overlapping to figure out what was wrong. 

Senku was immediately in front of you on one knee, quickly abandoning his station to bend down in front of you, trying to examine your wound without contributing to the pain and risk making you uncooperative. He firmly instructed Kohaku, Suika and Chrome to get specific supplies that would help him treat your wound before it became infected, and the three immediately got to work. The scientist cleaned your wound with water in the meantime, and as your vision cleared from your tears, you could observe the panic in his face as he was treating your burn to the best of his ability.

He was obviously frightened, but Senku was never one to simply stand and stare at a crisis. He was as sharp and swift as ever, and did his best to dull the pain. 

Miraculously, the burn didn’t cause any other harmful effects that would’ve left you hospitalized in his time. You evidently did scar though, and Senku couldn’t help feeling a little angry with how careless you were. 

He didn’t chew you out but he couldn’t help but feel frustrated, and you can tell the scare you gave him and your friends took quite a toll. You had to reassure him that you were okay, which only fanned the flame because you so easily couldn’t have been. 

From then on, Senku was extremely hesitant to let you around anymore dangerous chemicals. He assigned you more harmless tasks since you still want to contribute in whatever ways you can with helping cure Ruri (even well after you were fully healed, which irritated you greatly), and made sure to assess your burn everyday. 

Eventually, he allowed you back into the lab and around chemicals, but never wasted an opportunity to remind you to always be aware of what is taking place in a lab and to be conscious of your surroundings. He constantly double checked to make sure you had your gear on properly, slightly helicoptering you, which you again, found greatly annoying but couldn’t find it in yourself to complain about, as you were the one who worried him in the first place. 

Though there was something endearing about the small pout that formed on his face when he would gently raise your scarred hand to his eyes, turning it around and stroking the skin around it so as to not provoke any more irritation. He really was scared for you in those heartstopping moments, and the fright you gave him was no joke. 

He couldn't stay too mad as time passed though. The bright smiles and kisses on the cheek you give him as thanks for nursing you may have contributed to that as well.
