this got SUPER FUCKING LONG so putting it under the cut–

Grillby’s was always pretty quiet, especially in the cold winter evenings when the rest of town opted to stay indoors in the comfort of their own homes. A few scattered patrons lingered – a very drunk rabbit murmuring in the corner, a red bird slouched against the bar, a curious dog currently playing blackjack against itself (fourteen losses in a row...), and of course the flaming bartender.

And at the bar, two patrons sat, chatting away – Sans, and the gentle human who has since made the Underground her home. The two of them were as close as could be – she in particular felt a certain closeness to him... he was easy to talk to, he was funny, gentle, kind... god, how he could make her laugh. Even if it was followed up with a playful shove or a stammered ‘shut up!’, she always laughed at his dumb jokes, because to her, it somehow became the funniest thing in the world when it was coming from him.

They’d been sitting here for hours, talking and laughing like it was the most natural thing in the world. Occasionally, their hands would meet, or one would catch the other stealing glances at them... they’d been like this for quite some time, dancing around the fact that although they were close, maybe they could be closer. And it was on this quiet evening in a dingy little bar that the human woman made a decision.

“...hey, Sans...?” she murmured, glancing over at him, “I... there’s something I-I wanna tell you.”

“...? What’s up?” he asked with a tilt of his head, still smiling, but picking up on the serious tone she held and adjusting accordingly. He’d learned by now that she didn’t appreciate comedy when she was trying to be serious.

“...I... well... w-what if I, ah...” Well... shoot, she didn’t really think this through, did she. She kind of fumbled for words, stammering to herself for a moment before letting out a sigh. “...mm... I-I didn’t think this through, shit...”

“Well just, take it slow. Work it out in your head, and then–”

...so much for taking it slow. Because in a moment, the human had turned in her seat, had one hand atop his and the other on his shoulder, and she’d leaned in and kissed him. It was small, and quick – she pulled back after merely a second, and her face was practically aflame in a deep, embarrassed blush.

“I... s-sorry, I... d-didn’t know how else to...”

“...hey. ‘s okay. C’mere, you wanna try that again...?”

“O... oh, um... y... yeah, s-sure– yeah...!”

They leaned in, meeting halfway in another soft kiss – but the moment was interrupted by that drunk rabbit in the corner lifting up her wobbling head and shouting, “GET IT, SANSY~!!”
