While I’m on the subject of Michael Dillon’s shitty Dad it’s worth mentioning that he always refers to his father as “Daddy” and I’m not quite sure if this was a thing English gentlemen actually did well into adulthood in the early 20th century or not. I don’t even know how to look that up. And it’s not even like he liked his Dad, they had no relationship. When his Dad died, he recalls not caring too much and only crying because he was a kid and it felt expected. His Dad literally dumped his children off with his sisters and drank himself to death. Partially because Michael Dillon’s Mom died from complications during childbirth...But still... But he literally calls him Daddy the whole time and I am like... ...”Daddy??” I don’t remember any other memoir from that era doing that but there’s also no note in the footnotes saying if that’s weird or not.
