Don't Make Me Lose My Focus

Jack never got distracted. Especially at the Pitt. Sure, he didn't take things too seriously and could handle traumas with his eyes closed, but when it mattered, he was focused.
Focused on staying one step ahead. Focused on catching details others might miss. Focused on doing right by his patients. Too focused to care about looking impressive or being the shiniest thing in the room.
Often Abbot wondered what it would take to make him truly lose his focus, but he never found an answer. Until a month ago, when the answer walked through the doors on her first night shift.
Hot nurses were a dime a dozen around the Pitt. Abbot had seen them come and go for years without batting an eye, but you were different.
“Abbot, you’re getting a shadow for a couple hours. Any objections?” Dana asked.
He was in the middle of charting, and didn’t bother to look up.
“I don’t know why you ask. You don’t ever give me an option.”
“If any of youse had an option, we’d never get anything done around here.”
Dana rolled over a chair and made her take a seat next to him.
“Get acquainted. Have fun, kid.”
Abbot kept typing away on his computer and waited for her to do the thing.
He best described it to Langdon as:
“Disillusioned sorority girls who’ve watched too much Grey's Anatomy acting excited for what’s inevitably going to be the worst first shift of their lives.”
But the thing never happened.
Instead, you asked something Jack hadn’t heard in a while.
“So, are you a doctor?”
He smiled and turned his head to see who just asked such a thing.
You were leaning against one side of the chair, legs crossed, arms folded over your chest. You looked completely relaxed, wearing the most smug smile Jack had ever seen.
“Rodeo clown, actually.”
“They really do hire anyone here.”
Abbot found it hard not to just sit there and stare. You were unbelievably striking, even with a bare face.
“Shouldn’t you be seeing patients?” you asked playfully.
Abbot nodded with a smile. He got up from the desk and you followed. You were taller than he expected, meeting his eyes.
“You’re strict,” he muttered.
“They brought me on to raise standards.”
Your nose crinkled every time you said something funny and he noticed. It was the one tell that slipped through your stoically beautiful face.
Abbot’s first shift with you went better than expected.
You were the perfect shadow; quiet when necessary but ready to speak up when needed. You watched him interact with patients so intently that it made it feel like you two were the only ones in the room.
By the end of shift, you had left Jack utterly confused. You lingered on him and all he wanted was more.
When he got home that day, he immediately found your Instagram. Your profile was public, and my God, you were such a tease.
From that day on, Abbot had a routine to keep himself under control during the shifts he worked with you.
Twenty minutes before Jack would leave, he’d sit on his leather couch in the middle of his apartment dressed for shift. He would pull up your Instagram and scroll to his favorite picture.
You were in a satin dress. It was a windy day. He could tell you weren’t wearing a bra or panties, and the way you stood showed off your perfect fucking body.
Abbot squeezed himself over his scrub pants. The picture never got old.
He scrolled again and found the bikini photo you posted last summer. It was purple and tiny. So fucking tiny.
He pulled his scrubs down and stroked himself at the sight of your sunkissed abdomen and breasts that were practically jumping out of the tiny triangles trying to hold them back.
By the time he scrolled to your Halloween post dressed as a slutty princess, he would be leaking over his hands and chest. You always left him such a mess.
What a shame you weren’t there to clean him up.
Eventually he’d get himself together, go to work, and just watch. Jack would lean against the nurses station with his laptop and ‘work on chart notes’; in reality, he’d try to get you to catch him staring.
You inevitably would, batting your long lashes and blushing before turning back to whatever bullshit you were working on.
But that was okay with him, because every time you turned around, he got to admire your beautiful curves and the flower tattoo on the back of your neck that played peek-a-boo whenever you wore your hair up.
Today, Jack didn’t try to hide his stares.
“I really don’t want to fill out a harassment report,” Dr. Robinavitch chided, joining Abbot at the nurses station.
“Is staring considered harassment now?” Abbot asked.
“It’s sexual harassment the way you look at her, brother.”
“Can you blame me?”
“Not really,” Robby threw his hands up, pursing his lips.
“Rumor has it, she does have a boyfriend.”
Abbot’s head whipped towards Robby with lightning speed, awakening a defensiveness within him.
“Bullshit. He isn’t posted on her Instagram.”
He sounded edgier than he thought. Robby’s eyebrows raised.
“You follow her on Instagram?”
“No.”
“You’re stalking her on Instagram?” he whispered. “This creates more paperwork for me.”
“I’m not stalking,” Abbot hissed back. “I’m admiring.”
“With your right hand, I’m assuming?”
Robby crossed his arms over his chest and stifled a laugh.
“It’s normally the other way around with these nurses, Jack.” He clapped Abbot’s shoulder. “Just don’t make me fill out an incident report.”
He grimaced at Robby as he walked away. Jack slammed his laptop closed and headed to Trauma One.
Boyfriend?
“Adolescent with deep laceration to the back of neck!” Ellis shouted. She was following EMS into T1 and motioned for Abbot.
You can’t have a boyfriend.
“Move on three! One, two, three!” Nazely called, gripping the sheet for patient transfer. Abbot moved to the side of the bed and assisted.
Can you?
“Goddamn it, he’s hemorrhaging,” Ellis sighed. “Someone call vascular to set up an OR!”
No. I would’ve known. It would have come up.
“Care to join us, Dr. Abbot?” Ellis snapped. “Dr. Abbot!”
Jack blinked.
Ellis was looking at him.
Everyone was looking at him.
He realized that he was standing off to the side, fiddling with suction tubing.
“Jesus, uh. Fuck. Page vascular.”
“Already did that,” Nazely said.
Abbot moved to the gurney, dropping the suction.
"Move."
Ellis stepped aside. Blood welled from the ragged wound across the patient's neck. Jack packed the laceration with gauze and drove both hands down with steady pressure.
"Massive transfusion protocol," he said. "Two units uncrossed now. Is vascular on their way?"
"Three minutes out,” a nurse called.
"We're not waiting for imaging. This kid goes straight to the OR. Meet vascular at the elevators. Take him."
Nazely nodded, pushing the gurney through the trauma doors with the help of some nurses.
“That was a first,” Ellis snorted. She laughed as she peeled off her gloves.
Jack’s eyebrows furrowed.
“What was?”
“Dr. Abbot losing his focus. Never thought I’d see the day.”
Jack didn’t answer.
Instead, he went to the one place that could quiet his mind.
By the time he climbed the stairs to the roof, he was more irritated with himself than when he'd left T1. How the hell did you manage to do that to him?
He shoved the roof door hard enough that it slammed the wall with a loud bang.
“Abbot! What’s up, man?” a voice called.
“You stole my hiding place, Shen.”
“What’s yours is mine.” Dr. Shen grinned. He leaned against the guardrail.
“I saw the neck lac. Good work.”
“The kid will be fine.” Abbot grumbled, shoving his hands in his pockets as he joined Shen.
“What’s up with you?”
“Nothing.”
“Bullshit.”
Abbot sighed.
“Just didn’t do my best. Ellis called me out for being distracted.”
“Were you?” Shen raised an eyebrow.
Abbot nodded. He stared off into the skyline, letting his eyes focus on the lights until they got blurry.
“It happens.” Shen shrugged. “One time I zoned out during a stroke making my grocery list. We’re human, too.”
Abbot’s jaw tightened.
The question slipped out before he could think better of it.
“What've you heard about that nurse?”
“We have hundreds of nurses.” Shen looked over.
“The new one. Robby said something about her having a boyfriend.”
“The new girl?” Shen grinned. “You're such a dog, Abbot.”
“Answer the question.”
“I don’t think she does.”
“You sure?”
“Robby confuses all the nurses, he was definitely talking about someone else.”
“Okay,” Abbot tightly replied.
“So that's why you were distracted.”
Abbot shot him a look.
“Don't.”
“Oh, this is great.”
Shen pushed off the railing and headed for the roof door.
“I haven't seen you like this in years.”
Abbot couldn't bring himself to look at you for the rest of the shift.
He wasn't sure if Shen was right, and that ate at him.
The thought of you with someone else, of another man making you laugh, kissing you, touching the parts of you he'd only imagined turned his stomach.
It was ridiculous.
He barely knew you.
All he could think about on his ride home was you.
You, in that purple bikini, sat on his lap whispering in his ear. He imagined what it would be like taking it off and what you’d look like without it. How wet you would be. How tight you would feel.
By the time he walked into his apartment, he was harder than he’d ever been in his whole life.
Jack headed to his shower and turned it on as hot as it would go. He got in and let the water lick his back as he braced the wall. He stroked himself firmly, imagining your tight walls around his cock, begging for more.
He closed his eyes, imagining himself grabbing at your full hips as you wrapped your soft legs around his waist. He pictured you throwing your head back and screaming his name, loud enough for his neighbors to hear.
“Fuck, Jack! Don’t stop, please don’t stop!”
The thought of your pretty voice moaning those words made him release all over his hand. He grunted, pressing his forearm against the wall as he finished.
By the next shift, Shen had told anyone who would listen that Abbot had asked about you.
He had tried to avoid you, but you found him sorting through refill requests at a back desk.
“Can you help me with something?” you asked.
The request caught Abbot completely off guard. He looked around before nodding and hastily getting up to follow you into an on call room.
The silence between you was deafening by the time you stopped outside one of the empty rooms. You pushed the door open and stepped inside, waiting until he entered before closing it behind him.
"How can I help?" Abbot asked, folding his arms loosely across his chest.
“You know Dr. Shen told everyone. Right?”
Abbot’s face flushed.
"Yeah." He rubbed the back of his neck. "I know. It was out of line. I'm sorry."
“Ask me.”
“What?” Abbot swallowed.
“Ask me what you asked Shen.”
“I don’t think that’s appropriate.”
“Oh really?” You raised a brow. “Just try it.”
Abbot got quiet, and sighed.
“Do you,” he faltered, wiping his mouth. “Do you have a boyfriend?”
You walked over to him and pressed against his body. You wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him in. You paused just long enough to smile before your lips crashed against his.
Jack’s hands hung at his sides for a moment, lost as to what just happened. He hoped you hadn’t felt his cock spring to life the minute you touched him.
Slowly, Abbot let his hands find your waist. His palms dipped under your scrubs, finding your warm skin.
They traveled to your lower back and he pressed you closer into his chest.
Your lips danced against his, slowly. Almost agonizing. Abbot moaned as your tongue grazed his lip and he dug his fingers into your hips.
Suddenly you pulled back, biting your lip.
“Does that answer your question?”
Abbot brushed his thumb across his lower lip.
“I think it raises a few more.” His voice was low. “Where can we continue this?”
“How about you give me a tour of your apartment after work, Dr. Abbot?”
He nodded quietly.
You smiled, opened the door, and slipped back into the hallway without another word.
By the end of the shift, he was waiting by his truck when you walked out of the Pitt. Neither of you said much on the way and the radio filled in the silence.
His apartment building was plain brick and a few floors tall. He fumbled his keys at the door, dropped them once, and you bit back a smile as he crouched to grab them off the pavement.
"Smooth," you said.
"Shut up."
He finally got the door open and held it for you. You paused on the threshold, close enough that he had to look down at you.
"We don’t have to do this," he said, low.
"Just making you wait." You stepped past him into the stairwell. "Isn't that half the fun, Dr. Abbot?"
He shut the door behind you and led you up to his place, quiet the whole way. At his door he paused, key halfway to the lock.
"Last chance to change your mind," he said.
"Are you hoping I will?"
"No." He turned the key. "Not even a little."
The door swung open into the dark of his apartment, and he stepped aside to let you go first.
You brushed past him and flipped on a lamp near the couch. The place was tidier than you expected; a few medical journals stacked on the coffee table, a jacket thrown over a chair, nothing on the walls but a couple of old photographs.
"Not exactly the tour I was promised," you said, glancing around.
"Give me a second, I haven't had guests." He shrugged out of his coat and tossed it. "This is the living room. Obviously."
"Groundbreaking."
"I'm working up to the bedroom."
"Are you now?"
"Slow tour. Very thorough." He took a step closer, and you didn't move away. "I take my hosting duties seriously."
"Is that what we're calling this?"
"What would you call it?"
You reached out and toyed with the collar of his shirt, feeling him go still under your touch. "I think you know exactly what this is, Dr. Abbot. You just want me to say it."
"Guilty." His voice had dropped, rougher than before. "Say it anyway."
"Make me."
He reached up and tucked a strand of hair behind your ear slowly, deliberately, like he was giving himself one more second to think better of it.
He didn't.
“Fuck. Get over here.” Abbot picked you up, his strong hands cupping the curves of your ass. You instinctively wrapped your legs around his waist and arms around his neck.
His lips found yours urgently, yet somehow restrained. They traveled down to your neck, biting at your sweet smelling skin.
This was so wrong. This was so fucking wrong. He is your attending. He is twenty years older than you.
Abbot knew it was wrong but he couldn’t stop.
He carried you into his bedroom and laid you down gently on top of his bed.
Abbot knelt in between your legs and watched as you slowly snaked your hand down your chest.
Your hand dipped beneath your waistband and Abbot watched you rub small circles under your panties.
“Just can’t wait, can you?”
Jack grabbed the waistband of your scrubs and pulled them down, revealing red silk panties. They were damp over your core, giving you away.
“Look at how wet you are, baby.”
He cupped your core, sliding his hand up your crest until it found yours. He pulled your hand out of your panties and moved it up to his mouth.
He sucked on your fingers as he stared down at you.
“You taste so good. So sweet.”
Abbot kissed up your arm and made you sit up. He pulled off your scrub top, revealing a matching red bra beneath it.
“You always wear stuff like this?” he breathed.
His fingers traced the lacey straps, letting them lead the way to the hooks in the back.
“Only when I know you’re working, Dr. Abbot.”
He pulled the bra off and tossed it across the room. He pushed you back on the bed before standing up to take off his own clothes.
Abbot kneeled in front of you again in nothing but black boxers that were fighting to hold back his growing cock.
Jack moved atop of you, holding himself up with his muscular arms. His eyes danced over your face and body.
“You are so beautiful,” he said softly. He leaned down to kiss you, letting one of his hands find your breasts.
He trailed slowly down your jaw to your chest, leaving soft kisses as he went. Abbot’s mouth sucked your nipple, letting his hand pinch the other.
Your back arched from the sensation.
“Oh God,” you moaned. You tried to look down, but the pleasure kept you arched.
“Do you like it when I suck on your nipples like that?” Abbot asked.
“Mmhmm.”
“Should I suck on your clit like that?”
He looked up at you when he asked, smirking against your chest.
“Yes, please.” You nodded eagerly. “Please, Jack.”
He kissed each of your breasts before letting the tip of his tongue trail down your stomach to the hem of your panties.
Abbot nipped at your hip bones while he positioned himself between your thighs, using his hands to splay you open.
“Do you know how long I’ve wanted this?”
His voice sounded like a growl as he looked at your soaking core.
“How long, Jack?”
“Since the day I met you.”
He pulled the panties off in one motion, leaving you bare in front of him. Abbot bit his lip at what he saw.
“You have such a pretty pussy, baby.”
Jack gently stroked his finger over your folds, making you jump under his touch.
“So fucking wet.”
He kissed your inner thighs. He hovered over your aching clit, close enough for his breath to tease you.
“Please Jack,” you whined, bucking your hips
“Have you been a good girl?”
You could feel him mouth the words.
“Yes.”
You sat up a little to watch him torture you.
“Promise?”
Jack looked up at you. You nodded back at his blue eyes.
“I’ve been such a good girl waiting for you, Jack.”
That was all he needed to hear.
His mouth connected with your clit, swirling over it slowly. Jack lapped at it, making your hips roll under each tongue flick.
“Oh my God, Jack,” you moaned, sinking back down on the bed. Your hands found his hair, tugging at it.
“You like how I eat your pussy, baby?”
You moaned in response, rolling your hips uncontrollably against his mouth. His pace quickened, his tongue moving faster. Jack wrapped his lips around your clit and began to suck at it. Slowly at first, then deeper and faster all at once.
“I’m gonna cum,” you moaned. “I’m gonna fucking cum.”
“Cum all over my face, baby. Let me taste you.”
You listened, letting your orgasm take over you. You grinded against his mouth, riding it out. He wouldn’t let up, continuing to suck at your clit until you were sensitive. You pulled away, but not before Jack got one more taste in, tonguing your entrance.
“You are so sweet. Your pussy is so fucking sweet.”
He moved off the bed again, standing near the edge. Abbot grabbed himself over his briefs as he stared at you spread out in front of him.
You clamored over to him, kneeling in front of his cock. You kissed him over the fabric, feeling him pulsate under your lips.
“I’ve waited so long for this,” Abbot groaned.
You went to pull down his boxers, but he stopped you.
“No, baby. The first time I want to feel you is inside of you.”
“How do you want me?”
“On your back. I want to watch you take it.”
You laid down on the bed slowly, keeping your legs spread. Your hand found your clit again, circling it with your fingers as you waited for Abbot.
He dropped his briefs, his massive cock springing free. You gasped, making him smile.
“Don’t worry, baby,” he assured, climbing back on the bed. “I’ll go slow.”
He watched you play with yourself, grabbing his dick and stroking it slowly. Abbot grabbed your hips and pulled you towards him.
Jack leaned down to kiss you as he lined himself up with your entrance.
“You ready?” he whispered.
You nodded. Abbot gave you one more kiss before he settled back on his knees.
Steadying himself with your thighs, he began to slowly push into your entrance. He watched your face intently, moaning as your tight walls made room for him.
“You’re so big,” you breathed.
Your hand flew to your mouth and you began to bite your finger as the pain turned to pleasure.
“Jesus Christ,” Abbot grunted. “Your pussy is so tight.”
He stopped for a moment once he was fully inside, just feeling you. Jack looked at you again as he started thrusting.
He was slow at first, moving inch by inch.
“Faster. Please,” you whined.
“Can you take it, baby?”
“Yes, Jack. I can take it.”
Abbot’s pace quickened, and his fingers dug into your thighs. His hips moved rhythmically into your core, his cock hitting a sensitive spot against your walls.
“Oh, oh my God. Right there,” you moaned, closing your eyes.
“Are you gonna cum?” Jack asked gruffly. “Is my dick gonna make you cum again?”
“Yes, mhmm.”
“Then look at me, baby. I wanna watch you cum.”
You listened, focusing on his face. Jack’s eyebrows were furrowed and he was biting his lip.
His thrusts grew harder and deeper. Your hands gripped the fabric of his bed as a euphoric wave cusped in your abdomen.
“‘M gonna cum, Jack.” You were almost wordless.
Your back arched with each of his thrusts.
“Show me how good I make you feel.”
Warmth overtook you, radiating from your core. You gasped as the orgasm hit you and locked your legs around his waist.
“Don’t stop. Don’t stop,” you pleaded. Your hips jerked against his cock as you came.
“Yeah, that’s it.” Abbot grunted. “Just like that.”
Pleasure rippled through your body, so overwhelming that it made you lose your breath.
Abbot didn’t give you any time to catch it.
He flipped you onto your stomach and pulled you by the waist until you were on your hands and knees.
Abbot leaned over you to cup your throat, guiding your back against his chest.
You turned your head against his hand. He kissed your lips, lingering for just a moment before pulling back, his forehead resting lightly against yours.
“You’re so beautiful,” he whispered. “So beautiful, babygirl.”
Jack guided you back down to your forearms, letting his hands trace up your back.
Knelt behind you, he pumped himself with his hand as he palmed your backside.
“Your ass is fucking perfect.”
His free hand found your slit, rubbing your wet entrance.
“You’re still so wet for me,” he said through a smile.
“Put it in. Please,” you whined. Your hand flew to your clit, but he stopped you.
“Be patient, baby.” He pressed into you slowly, gripping at your hips. “Holy fuck.”
Abbot thrusted into you with slow bounces that slapped against your ass.
His control wore off and he sped up, his cock colliding with your deep core.
“Fuck, I’m gonna cum. I’m gonna cum in that tight pussy of yours,” he said through gritted teeth.
“Already?” you teased.
“Sorry, baby.” His thrusts grew erratic. “You feel too good.”
He grunted before slamming into your center once more. His cock pulsated inside of you, filling you up with his load.
Jack’s body jerked against yours before he pulled out and collapsed beside you. He curled himself against you and his hand found your cheek, thumbing circles on it.
“That was… perfect,” you cooed.
“You made it that way,” Abbot replied. He softly kissed your lips.
"So," you teased, "maybe you'll actually focus at work now."
Jack groaned, his cheeks immediately flushing.
"Fucking Shen." He dropped his head against your shoulder. "That's the last time I tell him anything."
"He's going to make your life miserable."
"Oh, absolutely."
Jack kissed your forehead, pulled you a little closer, and let himself smile.
"Still think I'm distracted?"
You grinned.
"Only when it comes to me."
He couldn't argue with that.

"Well, if it isn't my favorite doctor."
John felt the urge to smile already pulling at him, but hearing your voice actually made him commit to it. He straightens up his posture and takes a quick look over your frame behind that damn counter that's basically your home for eight hours almost every day. You're flashing a grin towards him, and he notices the sight of a familiar gift you always bring him.
"You flatter me," John dismisses, even though your words continue to have him smiling. He brings his hands to the counter and presses his body forward as he stares into your eyes and asks, "Is this for me?"
His eyes watch yours glance down at the lingering, overly sweetened plastic cup of coffee with an orange straw already placed inside, with some of the wrapper still covering the top. You bring yourself to match his gaze once again and jokingly admit, "Of course it is. You know I don't drink that abomination you call rocket fuel."
A faux frown finds itself on his lips as he replies, "You can't look down on my coffee if you haven't even tried it yet!"
"I don't need to drink it to know it's an abomination John, now take it away from my counter!"
A chuckle leaves him and his hands grab the drink. He takes the paper still on the straw and puts it lazily inside the pocket of his black scrubs. John brings the drink to his lips and sees that you're still watching him. You're in a cute pair of purple scrubs today, and have a matching pair of purple framed glasses lying on top of your hair. John thinks he likes purple more on you than the regular navy blue scrubs you wore last week.
"How was your shift, John? Nights still giving you hell?"
Your body moved away from the counter and towards the middle of the space where tons of prescriptions, paperwork, and notes were. John leans over and places his elbows on the white hardtop surface and pulls the straw away from his mouth.
"I love nights, thank you very much. I thrive in the chaos sweetheart," he smugly admits. Your eyes find his face and a smirk is already there as he watches you move around working.
A smirk of your own morphs on your lips as you ask, "Hm, and is that why you can't seem to leave even when your shift is up? The residual chaos still eating at you?"
John finds himself going still at your question. He hoped he wasn't as obvious as he unfortunately was, but he loved staying a little later in the morning to talk to you. It started last month: the small ritual of him coming down from the ER and into your nook of the hospital to chit-chat after his shift was over. The circumstances of your meeting weren't the best since he met you in an emergency mass casualty that went throughout his shift and into your morning shift. Where at the end of it, both of you and some others found themselves in the break room trying to decompress and distract each other from the previous event.
John remembers the moment you spoke to him without any of the professional medical jargon that was usually thrown among employees. He had admitted very loudly how he was craving some caffeine because the break room simply wasn't up to par in his mind. You had asked him what kind of coffee he liked, and that's when he looked at you. Glasses sitting neatly on your face, eyes with a small hint of curiosity, but also boredom in them, and a small quirk of your lip faced him. Inside your hand was a tall orange yellowish drink with the big fat Dunkin Donut logo on it and John quickly let a grin form as he answered your question.
Honestly, he doesn't know how it's gotten this bad. He noticed the small things you'd mentioned in the early mornings as he loitered at your station. John liked how your frames would change with the chosen color of your scrubs. He enjoyed it when you'd tease him for still not believing in myths about the hospital, even though he still keeps the small lucky charm you gifted him after the first few times you two got to know one another. He loved it when you would text him all the random thoughts you had that day, even on the weekends, and the check-ups you two would do together.
Maybe it was too quick—the both of you have only been doing this for a month—but fuck if he doesn't want to admit that he likes you.
'Work crushes' was the term Lena had mentioned in passing to him after watching the two of you talking, but John denied it.
Even if he knew deep down that there maybe was a chance that he definitely does have a crush on you.
John clears his throat, and you're still looking towards him as he says, "No. The chaos is the last thing on my mind once I'm off, sweetheart."
Your body stills as John has his sights glued to you, and he feels as if he might've just said too more than he wished to have disclosed.
"Dr. Shen, what are you still doing here?"
Both of you turn and see Robby coming towards the counter, as his presence cuts the growing tension into smithereens. Your eyes glance at John and then back to Robby as you say, "Hi, Robby."
Robby's eyes find yours, and he gives you a warm acknowledgment as he says your name. John looks at Robby and pulls out a small smile and says, "Just bothering my favorite pharmacist on my way out."
Their exchange was light and quick, as Robby made his way into the ER to start his shift. John eyes you as you work, but he feels as if he can't leave you just yet. He calls out your name, and your head whips up and you silently nod towards him to signal him to speak.
"Do you want to try out that new place down the street? The smoothie place. This weekend…"
Your body moves before your mind can come up with a reply, but once you're stood in front of John, you see how serious he actually is. Going from neutral to smiling your mouth moves as you happily say, "I'd like that—"
A loud beeping rings, as you notice your pager going off, and you move swiftly to retrieve it. But before leaving your station to go to the back, you turn and shout at John, "Text me later, okay?!"
"Alright!" John tells back at you, as he brings the coffee back to his lips. A smile stays on his face as he walks out of PTMC and John can't wait til this weekend.

“Hey! Echo!” Your head whips around at the sound of your nickname cutting through the chaos. Dr. Ellis twists her body through bodies running and others dropping, unfazed by the mess that is now the Emergency Department. Echo– Dr. Abbot had given it to you on your first day after catching you mumbling every single thing he was saying under your breath. Am I in a tunnel? You remember him asking, shooting you a half amused, slightly irritated smirk. It was a dig, you’re sure it was. But you like it now, it gives you an edge.
And hey, it beats Huckleberry.
