“Cheol ah, what’s this?” you pointed at an unfamiliar envelope placed neatly on your desk, coloured in golden yellow, with written blue initials of your name.
Seungcheol woke up from his nap, stretching out his right arm that he had been resting on, and gave you a sleepy expression, squinting from adjusting to the day’s light, then looking to you for clarification.
As you gestured towards the envelope, both of Seungcheol’s eyes shot open, grabbing it before you could do so yourself.
“Hey!” you said, giving Seungcheol a glare as you took back the piece of paper that he was intently staring into.
“Open it!” Seungcheol hollered, leaning dangerously close to you as you opened up the silver lining of the envelope.
“Geez okay! Why are you more excited than me?” you chuckled, pushing away Seungcheol’s face which was literally blocking your sight from the envelope.
You pulled from within a piece of pink-coloured paper, and read what was neatly written on it.
Whenever I’m around you, I feel like life’s complete. I don’t know what to say, But you make my heart beat.
“I’m keeping this,” Seungcheol said, snatching away the piece of paper from your hands.
“What, why?” you questioned the boy, confused as this was clearly not his business.
Seungcheol just shrugged as he tosses the letter into his bag, not letting you near it anytime soon.
As the day came to an end, the sun was setting, the school bells were ringing, signaling the start of the weekend. You’ve just returned to your seat from the restroom, and that’s when you realised another similar note, same patterns around the corners, and same handwriting on it’s front:
I’m falling really hard,There’s no stopping me this time.I think you’re there to catch me,To finally let me shine.
Once again, Seungcheol was by your side, reading the new note without your permission. Once again, he was dangerously close, the both of you were standing next to each other, and you got a shock when you turned to look at him. His perfectly-angled jaw was all you could see, and the situation didn’t improve as he turned to face you. You could feel Seungcheol’s breath tickling your nose as he looked down at you.
Before you knew it, Seungcheol snatched the letter away while you were distracted with his gaze, and like the previous time, he tossed it into his bag. Seungcheol then said in annoyance, ”Y/N, we’re going for a movie together tomorrow. I’ll pick you up at 8pm,” before carelessly swinging his bag over his shoulder, leaving the classroom.
Confused once again by Seungcheol’s attitude, you assumed that he was just having a bad day.
Now, you’d be lying if you weren’t thinking about those letters. They were love letters. You have an admirer, but, who is it? When did he leave the notes? How come you never realised even once? Maybe Seungcheol knows. After all, he is the only witness.
You’d also be lying if you thought nothing about Seungcheol’s attitude. He was cold, didn’t talk to you other than about school work. On other days, he would often talk to you about everything, like what you ate for lunch, or what you’d be doing after school, you loved these casual conversations with him. But today there was none of it, other than the fact that he took away all your secret admirer notes. It was as if he was jealous. But why would he be? Why would he ask you out for a movie all of the sudden? Was Seungcheol the sender of the letters?
You were left confused as things didn’t add up. Things didn’t make sense. You then sighed and picked up your bag, and spotted something while looking over Seungcheol’s desk. You opened your eyes wide, shocked at the sight before you. You immediately grabbed what seemed like other letters, all in different colours from the previous two, determined to get to the bottom of things when you meet Seungcheol.
“Did I do something wrong?,” Seungcheol asked for the fifth time ever since he set foot into your house.
It was 8:45PM, fifteen minutes till the start of your movie, but there you were, sitting in the corner of your bedroom, refusing to talk to Seungcheol.
“At least tell me what I did wrong, it hurts me to see you pissed off,” Seungcheol said, squatting next to you and pleading you with his doe like eyes.
You gave a big sigh. You had to know the truth. You gave seungcheol a glance, finding a worried expression on him. You stood up and went to your bag, revealing the letters that you found the day before, the main reason why you were so angry.
“Tell me why you were angry yesterday, tell me why I found this in your desk, and tell me why you’re hiding things from me!”
Seungcheol’s face sunk when he saw the colourful letters, sprawled over the bed where you threw them. Seungcheol traced his fingers over them, and then reached out to grab your wrist, “…I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, but it’s really not what it seems like, i can expla-”
“Explain what!” You exclaimed, shaking off his hand which was wrapped gently around your elbow. You were clearly more affected by this than you imagined to have been.
“It never even concerned you in the first place,” you said, looking away from him.
“Who the hell said it didn’t concern me?” Seungcheol said, you swore you could hear him choking from his deep, trembling voice, obviously in shock by what you said.
You looked up, to see Seungcheol looking down to his feet, hands dangling at his sides.
“I like you, Y/N,” Seungcheol said, as he turned to face you.
He placed both his hands on your shoulders, looked into your eyes, and said:
“Don’t ever fall for someone else.”
