“He’s going to love it,” Jayce said, grinning. “You did an amazing job.”

You scoffed. “I can’t take all the credit. It was your idea to begin with.”

“What are you two scheming in here?” Viktor’s voice came. “Nothing diabolical, I hope.”

Heart pounding, you stood shoulder to shoulder with Jayce in front of the work bench. Viktor’s sharp eyes cut through you.

“I, well - we -“ you rushed.

Jayce cleared his throat. “We made you something. A gift.”

You both stepped aside. Viktor came closer, observing the cane Jayce made and you painted.

“You both…” his voice wavered. “For me?”

Day 11 - Credit

You blinked slowly looking at him the way you would if he was an overgrown lizard in a tutu. “Why are you giving me your credit card?” 

He chuckled, shoving the plastic in your hand. Tired by the repetition of the question.

There was no place for refusal. 

“Treat yourself, kitten” 

“You… realize that we just came here” you didn't even finish speaking. 

“It would be a waste to just grab one thing, when you have a full mall” he waved at you to follow, his target obvious. You ran to stop him before he walked to the lingerie shop.

To Kalim’s credit, it wasn’t his fault. That was the only positive thing Jamil could say. He just happened to be at the wrong place, at the wrong time – still, this wasn’t the first time his master found himself in the crossfire of some magic-related disputes.

To Jamil’s credit, he was taking it well. No visible annoyance. No screams. Simply acceptance at being burdened with a younger Kalim – that aside, his job went on as usual.

“Jamil,” Kalim said in a high-pitched voice, “Let’s play together!”

If not for the fact he couldn’t say no to such a tiny creature.

56th of Fishing, year 7044

Bottles opening with a pop! and the smell of meat and flowers. I hum a sad song in memory of the forgotten, or maybe it’s just the sea, its waves have that exact sound, sometimes, I still don’t know why or when exactly.

And then, she starts urging me to sing louder, as if I was particularly good. “Give yourself some credit,” she says, and talks about the old times, when my voice would bore the babies and the toddlers into sleep. I get nostalgic.

In the midst of love orphans are cursed to suffer, Yet there is joy left.

This is an entry in the travel journal of a fictional character.

“Are you saying you do not own a credit card?”

Reka tried her best not to shrink under Dusa’s puzzled expressions. She desperately fought to tear away at the image of the villager whose main financial backing was her parents’ farm, a half-torn lab with creations that must have been overgrown with rust and disuse.

“I…it’s different here! You don’t need one to get by. We just give our word we’ll come and pay within a month. There are cameras everywhere, and chips in our arms, they know where to get us.”

Dusa clicked her tongue, unsold.

“Not even one?”

Drabble Challenge 2025 Day 11 Prompt: Credit

Mi-an stepped back, staring proudly at the new bannister she’d just installed around the City Hall porch.  

“Mi-an, it looks just lovely,” Minister Matilda praised.  

“Precisely like I instructed“, her boss, Yan, interrupted from behind them.  “If I hadn’t told her exactly what to do, this here bannister would be less…uh…bannistery.”

Mi-an fumed as he took credit for her work, as usual.  

Matilda caught her eye and winked,  “You don’t say, Yan.  Maybe you can take a look at the bannister on my porch.  It could use your personal touch.” 

Mi-an laughed to herself as the Minister led him away.
