Not a prompt, just something I've been playing with forever and actually had a few minutes last night to sit with it.

The plum-colored hollows under her eyes—even from twenty feet away—even through a window—practically took him out at the knees. 

He has to psyche himself up to walk into the room, something he has never had to do outside an autopsy bay. Usually, if she’s in a room, it’s where he wants to be, too. 

He’d hovered in the hallway, waiting for her mother and brother to leave, and strolls in with a smile and a positivity so forced it borders on hysterical. 

He can tell right away she doesn’t buy it. 

“What say the doctors?” he asks, taking her cold hand in his own, trailing tubes like an untied shoe. He’s careful not to bump her IV port. 

“No improvement,” she says, and he can tell she’s holding back tears. 

“We’ll it’s not—“

“Mulder,” she says, a warning. A plea. 

Something tight forms behind his ribs. 

“I’ve asked Father McCue to come administer last rites.”

All his muscles suddenly tense, and he feels as though if he weren’t doing his absolute best to remain as unaffected as possible, he might hyperextend into the spastic U of a tetanus patient. 

“It’s too early,” he says, and he knows it’s the wrong thing when she closes her eyes and rests them, her face looking ever so slightly pained. 

He squeezes her hand. “May I wait with you?” he asks, his voice very compact and small. 

She nods and they sit quietly. So quietly that eventually a nurse slips an arm into the cracked door and dims the lights. 

His thoughts cast off into the cosmos, rippling through space time in search of the crossroads where an atheist and Catholic might meet when all is said and all is done. 

He watches her as she drifts into a light sleep, the cannula in her nose flaring with vapor at every exhale. 

Eventually there is a soft knock on the door and Mulder turns to see her priest. The man smiles at him kindly, but Mulder doesn’t return it. Her god is angry and vengeful. Her god is unfeeling and cruel. 

“Scully,” he says gently, lifting her knuckles to his mouth again, pressing warmth into the dry, papery skin.

Scully rolls to face him, the Vermeer arc of her aristocratic cheek lined in shadow.  

Father McCue comes into the room. Speaks. 

“Would you like to stay and say a prayer with us?” The man asks Mulder politely. “I think Dana might like that.”

Anger washes over him. Anger at cancer and Scully and her god. Anger at this priest sent to speak over her soul, to shuttle it along as if it wasn’t already anchored to his. 

There are worlds she hasn’t seen yet. Stories she hasn’t told. 

It’s a crime what’s happening to her. 

It’s an atrocity. 

It’s a sin. 

“You want to know what I think?” He rises to his feet, ignores the priest. Speaks directly to her. “I think God should be asking you for mercy,” he says, bringing her knuckles to his lips before pulling away. Before dropping her hand. “I think God should be asking for your forgiveness.”

She looks at him, her face in shock. 

“I don’t think you should grant it.”

He turns from her and silently slips out of the room.

It was a while before the Prison Realm had been returned after Halloween. Yet for every second Satoru knew she was in there, the more impulsive he was becoming.

Lunae must be so scared. That was the singular thought ever since retrieving the Prison Realm that Satoru had, holding the cursed artifact close to his chest. Lunae wasn't a sorcerer--she only had strong awareness to even see curses to begin with--so he could imagine her being trapped inside something like this was nothing short of terrifying.

It had been weeks and the need to get her out increased. The only reason he hadn't destroyed the thing was out of worry that it would potentially kill her. And he'd be damned if he ever let that happened.

He knew it must have seem almost concerning for his students; he was cradling the Prison Realm as though it were something precious. They had yet to realize the person within it was precious to him. He hardly ever talked about his personal life with his students. How could they have known?

And when the day finally came, the day to break the seal, Satoru was ready. His expression was set with determination, even as the angel used her technique. Despite this, his heart was in his throat, even as the light from the technique slowly began fade. Was she alright?

On the heels of that question came the answer in the form of the very woman Satoru sought to free. Still in the same clothes she wore during the Shibuya incident, her hair had grown a bit longer and the gash above her eye had healed into a scar.

He was the first to close the distance, his heart breaking at the sight of her looking around with an expression of confusion and fear--yet her name fell from his lips in relief. "Lunae!"

Those dark brown eyes that always sparkled fell on him as soon as she heard her name and her expression shattered from the usual ones she'd make around him. Satoru had never seen her cry before and the sight of her tears just propelled him forward, throwing his arms around her to hold her tightly.

Her arms banded around him in turn, gripping the back of his shirt as she sobbed against his chest. "Satoru...it's you, right?" she whispered through her tears.

God as his witness, Gojo Satoru was going to obliterate the jujutsu world if it meant she never cried again.

Still the Seventeenth here. Sorry this so bleak. I repurposed a drabble I wrote a while ago. If it's any consolation it's a direct prequel to this.

Mysteron Complex

Mars

March 17, 2070

“So? The entire Earth has already labeled me a warmongering monster. You should have thought of that,” Conrad snapped bitterly, as his fingers started to bleed and burn, still working steadily where no human hands should be, “no one in Spectrum gives a toss about me. So why should I consider the ethical and moral consideration of eradicating you? It's not like it would work in my favor,” he paused, closed his eyes and slammed the last bloody connection home, “there. Time for us to die. Happy Fucking Birthday to me.”

And between one breath and, well, there would never be a next one, the Mysteron threat ended.

That’s not where the uterus is.

This is what happens when I read one too many “Arya can’t children because she was STABBEDEDEDED” stories.  That. Is. Not. Where. The. Uterus. Is.  

Not. Even. Close.

It’s not even where the right ovary is.

Honest.

     “You must be mistaken.”  

    “I assure you, my lady, I am not.” Maester Jurne peers at his lady over the top of his spectacles.  Her reaction was not unfamiliar to him, throughout his years as Maester of Storm’s End, he’d encountered it countless times.  Though it was usually reserved to unwed young women.

    “You’ve seen my scars, Maester Jurne.  It’s just not possible.”

    “I have.” Several times, in fact, given his lady’s propensity to throw herself into the middle of any skirmish.  A habit both he and her lord husband had tried to break her of. Perhaps this…

    “Then you understand why you must be mistaken.” She reaches for her discarded tunic.

    “I believe it is you, my lady, who are mistaken.” He schools the smile from his face, knowing how his lady’s dislikes people laughing at her. “If you would allow me to be a bit indelicate for a moment.” He touches the long scars that wrap around her side, stopping at points on each. “Liver. Gallbladder. Pancreas. Kidney. I confess, I am at quite a loss as to how you survived these injuries. Especially without the treatment of a Maester or competent healer. But I can assure that where you were injured has nothing to do with this particular process.”

    “But-that-I can’t-” Her grey eyes are wide and disbelieving.

    “I see no reason you can’t, my lady.” He assures her again. “Your symptoms certainly suggest it and you told me yourself that you haven’t bled in several moons. You are with child.”

    She sighs deeply and closes her eyes, sitting in silence for a long moment before reaching for her tunic.

    “Is something wrong, Lady Arya?”  

    “No, I just-” she smiles weakly at him. “Gendry’s going to be impossibly pleased with himself, isn’t he?”

    Jurne can’t help smiling fondly, his young Lord will not be the only one happy with the news, it’s been too many years since the halls of Storm’s End have echoed with the laughter of young Baratheons at play.

(A Hackle drabble)

Hecate slipped into the staff room.

“Ada?” she called quietly. A few embers still flickered in the fireplace, and she thought she saw an outline of an arm dangling over the chair.

Hecate padded over. Ada was asleep, a book resting in her lap. Hecate picked it up, summoned a bookmark, and placed it carefully on the table. She leaned down and kissed Ada’s forehead. “Ada, it’s time to go to bed.”

“Nnngh,” Ada complained.

“I can transfer us, but you’re going to have to stand up.”

“Oh, very well.” Ada groaned and pushed herself out of the chair. “But only because my sleeping-in-a-chair days are long past.” She winced. “Or not yet here again - I don’t know how Gwen does it.”

“Are you ready?”

“Yes,” Ada confirmed, slipping her hand into Hecate’s, and moment later they were in their rooms.

“Thank you, dear,” Ada leaned up and kissed Hecate. “Goodnight.” With a wave, she was in her nightgown, and was asleep before her head hit the pillow.

This is my apology to @amanda-teaches. I promised her fluff yesterday after I destroyed her with my fic Last Words... sorrynotsorry lovey, still love ya though!

“I love you.” you muttered

Dean inches away from you. He looked down at you, love in his eyes.

“Why?”

That one word absolutely broke your heart.

You reached out, grabbing his shoulder and pulling him against you.

You wrapped your arms around his neck, one hand sliding through the short locks of light brown hair. You nuzzled gently against his neck, pressing your lips against his ear.

“I love you, because every time i think about you, every time your name pops into my head, every time i see your face, my heart skips a beat.” you began.

“I don't love you because you're attractive, or brave… i love you because you're genuinely, a great man. You have a huge heart, you fight for what you believe in. You defend your family, you protect people, even bad people, you jump into a lake, to save a kid… without a second thought. Its second nature and i see that. And i love that.

I love you because you're so good… because you always try… i know you beat yourself up over the mistakes you've made, but Dean… everyone makes mistakes, i know you were just trying to do good, you weren't being selfish, you were trying to help people.

I know it sounds cheesy, corny… whatever, but Dean i love you so much i literally can't stand it… i feel like my heart might explode. And i wouldn't want anyone else, to father my child, to sleep beside me at night, to depend on, because that's a two way road and Dean i really like taking care of you. You alone make me feel safe. You saved me Dean, in so many ways. I love you because I can, i love you because i always will.

I love you because you're you. You are honest to god Dean Winchester. I love Dean Winchester. I'm in love with Dean Winchester, to me, Dean Winchester is the most amazing man there is, and i wouldn't want anyone else beside me as i walk through life.”

Dean had no tears, but you could see them starting. His face was flushed, eyes red rimmed as he looked down at you, making your heart skip a beat.

In a split second Dean pulled you in, trapping you against his chest as he dipped his head, pressing his lips to yours in a desperate kiss.

You love him.

Ah yes hello it is I the angst queen. You said you werent too familiar with the outercodes, so let's get some practice in! How would Ink, Error, Night, and Dream react to their s/o leaving them for the other after an big argument with the ex skele. (Nights to Dreams, Errors to Inks, likewise)

Howdy angst queen, thanks for the opportunity for some practice! I did a little research, so let’s take a crack at this shall we? I do so love me some good angst, so hopefully you will enjoy this too.

Nightmare to Dream:

At first it started with small things, minor disagreements, petty fights. You don’t know what it was, but being around Nightmare filled you with sickly feelings of anger and animosity, it was like every negative thought you had was amplified to ten. The bickering got louder, and the fights got bigger and more out of hand, until finally you screamed that you would be leaving Nightmare for his brother Dream; someone who never made you feel bad about yourself, who filled the room with a breath of warmth and hope unlike the stifling air of negativity in your own home.

The room falls silent, and Nightmare’s singular cyan eye light looks you over like you’ve just told the worst joke in the history of the multiverse. “heh, heh, heh...of course you are. he’s dream, he’s the good one, the one everyone loves, the one who can do no wrong, the one whose so much better than me,” he hisses, narrowing his socket at you. Squirming inky black tendrils begin creeping closer to you, curling and uncurling dangerously. Something inside of Nightmare spills over, a painful hurt at the knowledge that he’ll never be as good as his brother, never have the warmth of hope and love return to his soul, that not even his best efforts to be good again were good enough for you. The protective voice inside his mind hisses anger and poison into his heart, quickly driving the pain away. There’s no time to be sad when you’re pissed right? “like hell you’re leaving me for that creampuff.” The steadily advancing tendrils shoot out and coil around you...You don’t make it to Dream.

Dream to Nightmare:

The ever beaming ray of hope and positivity that is Dream stares at you with wavering eye lights, once full of such joy and now welling over with a confused sort of betrayal. “BUT WHY ARE YOU LEAVING ME? I THOUGHT WE WERE HAPPY?” And you were...at first. Dream was always supportive and loving, there to pick you up when you were feeling down, but somehow that morphed into a forced positivity. Whenever Dream was around you, you weren’t allowed to feel sad. It was nice in the beginning, having someone there to cheer you up, but lately he hasn’t been giving you the time to process any of your negative emotions, the moment one wells up he tries to shove it back down and it’s been taxing on your mental health. All you did was tell him you were going to see Nightmare and he looked at you like you’d just kicked a box of crying puppies into a river. You’re so mad at him, you just need to feel what you feel.

Dream is afraid, afraid that if he lets you be sad, or angry, or jealous that the darkness will rise and take over your soul...take you away from him...just like it took his precious brother away. He can’t let that happen, he can’t lose both his most important people, he won’t. But here you are, with those very feelings he tried so hard to keep away, walking out the door without looking back. He wants to stop you, but he’s afraid that when he turns you around...it won’t be you anymore. You walk away. He falls to his knees sobbing, arms curling around himself and bony distals clutched tightly in his golden cape. “PLEASE, PLEASE DON’T LEAVE ME!”

Error to Ink:

You were so lonely in the antivoid. Error was never around, and when he was, he didn’t have the time of day for you. You were becoming touch starved and desperate for companionship. There was no big fight, just a string of growing heartache leading up to the one day you finally had enough and told him that you were leaving him for Ink. He clutched his chest and laughed at you, glitching out for a moment from how hard he was laughing. He looks at you with a smirk and rolls his eye lights at you. “trust me puppet, you think you’re lonely now? just wait till you’re with him. that soulless abomination only cares about one thing, and it sure as heck ain’t you.” Error twitches his fingers and a blue thread grazes against your cheek. “at least i can love you.” You don’t feel very loved. “besides.” Another thread wraps around your neck, squeezing lightly. “if you join him, i’ll have to destroy you.”

Ink to Error:

You love him, you love him so much, you knew he needed help feeling things, but you never expected it to feel this bad when you realized he would never...could never tell you he loved you back. For you he would drink vial after vile of emotion just to make you happy, but then the vials ran out, and he would not lie to you anymore. “i don’t love you, i never did, and i never can.”

You stand there in shock, a cold chill running down your spine at those words that you already knew deep down were true. You can’t keep hurting yourself like this, you need to get as far away from Ink as you can. But how can you when he is everywhere? You tell him you’re leaving him for Error. Ink’s blank, uninterested expression doesn’t even change and he waves you away before you even start walking. “see you around then.” You start crying and he doesn’t even care. You wish he would care...wish he could care, stars above why does this hurt so bad.

Sorry it took so long to get this one out, tumblr was having some issues and it ate the response I was working on so I had to start over. Hope this is worth the wait! (Got your other ask, don’t worry, I’m working on that one too)

Ink’s child runs away:

Ink isn’t worried, this isn’t the first time one of his kids have decided to take a joy ride through the au’s. He found the last one no problem after all. They probably just got bored and wanted to have a little fun. He takes a moment to think of all the most likely au’s his kid could have gone to first and then gets in contact with his allies to wrangle them into helping him look for them.

Best case scenario, he finds his kid in one of the tamer au’s, causing mischief and making friends. He’s have a talk with them about why they left, and proper dimension hopping safety procedures. He’ll make sure they talk to him before they decide to run off on an another adventure, and probably invite them out on more of his own so they don’t feel left out.

Worst case scenario? Ink heads to the place he found his last runaway kid…with Error. He gets there too late, just in time to find the poor kiddo already dusting. They regret running away and reach out for him, asking for help with their last words. This isn’t fun anymore, they think. Ink’s face goes blank as he’s overwhelmed with his failure to protect his kid, hand reaching out for theirs just as their dust starts to fall. One job. He has one job and he fucked it up. He leaves the pile of dust and starts hopping through au’s, hoping to find an au version of his kid to bring home with him.

Error’s child runs away:

I could think of a lot of reasons Error’s kiddo might run away. They could be fighting, the kid could feel neglected, maybe they just want the chance to see something great happen before their dad comes around to ruin it. What matters though, is that Error has that moment of pissed off concern that any parent that gave half a shit about their kid has when they can’t find them. He gives it a little bit of time, hoping they’ll come home on their own before he goes out looking for them.

Best case scenario, the kid comes home on their own, safe and sound. They’ll get grounded of course, but Error will be more relieved to see them than upset.

Worst case scenario? Error can’t find his kid while he’s out searching and they don’t come home on their own. In an anxiety induced rage he goes on a destructive rampage destroying au after au. He accidentally deletes the coding for the au his kid was hiding out in and never finds out where they went.

Dream’s kid runs away:

Dream would panic the moment he realized that his kid wasn’t anywhere to be found. But they’re a teenager right? They usually have their phone on them, so he calls them and texts them trying to get into contact with them, hoping they only forgot to tell him they were going out. No such luck, they don’t answer any of his attempts to reach out to them. He goes looking, first in the softer au’s, then the more dangerous ones. The kid probably ran away because they felt like Dream babied them too much.

Best case scenario, Dream finds his kid hanging out and taking shelter somewhere safe. They have a long talk about why the kid ran away and go home together. The kid is snuggled to death and Dream would try to stop babying them so much.

Worst case scenario? The kid wanted to help. They wanted to do what their dad does but he didn’t think they were old enough to do dangerous things like that. They snuck out and tried to play hero but it wound up biting them in the ass. Dream finds a pile of dust and their favorite coat after hours of searching. He’s absolutely heartbroken and the guardian of hope finds that he has none left. Tendrils of grief, despair, guilt, and self hatred plunge into his golden soul, corrupting it.

Nightmare’s kid runs away:

Nightmare is not the easiest guy to be around, he tries his best, but he’s just such an ass sometimes and little things tend to get out of hand with him. His kid might’ve run away because they were tired of having so many harsh and complex feelings without anyone to talk to them about. Nightmare would blame himself entirely and internalize this as just another reason why he’s the worst. He’s such a bad guy even his own kis wants nothing to do with him. He’ll spend a bit feeling sorry for himself before he guilty himself into getting off his ass to go look for his kid.

Best case scenario, he finds them with uncle Dream, talking about their problems in a way he couldn’t help them with. The kiddo is convinced to go home, but Dream offers to take the kid out once a week so they don’t feel like they have no one to talk to, and Nightmare tries to work on his communication skills.

Worst case scenario? The kid winds up in one of the seedier au’s and someone lures them away with the promise of a kind ear to listen with. Instead the kid gets kidnapped by the creep and murdered. Nightmare finds out when he’s passing through searching because the person was bragging about it to one of their buddies. Nightmare flies off the handle and spears them both through the gut with his tentacles, watching the life drain from their eyes. He doesn’t stop there though, he goes on an absolute rampage, spearing and ripping anyone in the vicinity apart until there’s no one left and he’s kneeling on a dirty street corner surrounded by dust and viscera crying his heart out.
