Decklist: Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius

Much like the guildmaster of the Izzet League himself, a deck based around Niv-Mizzet is about gathering knowledge. This Blue and Red deck focuses on drawing cards and interacting with spells and permanents on the field to contort the state of the game to its own design, forcibly guiding the other players towards its own ends. With the capability of taking large chunks of cards into hand at once, casting additional copies of spells, and manipulating the stack and the battlefield to the player's whims, the Dracogenius' deck is a truly unique experience among the decks I've put together.

The early turns of the game should be mainly working towards setting up draw engines that will work to your advantage. Niv's at his best when he has better than a full seven to play with, and so cards like Reliquary Tower make him pretty happy. Once your opponents attempt to start pressing to their decks' themes, you can begin to disrupt their plans by returning their permanents to their hands, interacting with their spells to put the benefit in your favor, or simply pushing them back with the beefier creatures at the top end of this deck's curve.

The Commander of the deck is best utilized as an additional draw engine; while he doesn't really have the tools to go infinite like his previous version did, the change to the way his abilities work makes him a more consistent leader overall, and as a bonus he doesn't paint as big a target on his back as the Firemind version. The final goal of the deck is simply to ensure that everything happens on Niv's terms, and he's got all the tools he needs to make sure that happens.
