"Do you know about Dracula ants and if not would you like to" and other totally normal ways to start a conversation
*snorts* Look man, I don’t deal with vampire ants, and I’ve never ever been to Africa, Australia, or Asia in my life. Hank never dealt with them, and honestly, I don’t wanna either.
That’s just…..creepy.
Tropical insect uses lethal speed of its spring-loaded mandibles to stun or kill prey
To summarize the relevant part of the article, this is the Dracula ant and they way they feed is they bring food to their young to digest. They then get their food by drinking the blood of the young in low enough amounts so as to not harm them much.
The greatest thing about nature is that it has wilder animals than any fiction can come up with. I mean like, why don’t vampires in media do this? I don’t read vampire fiction(haven’t read Twilight and never intend to), but there has to be at least one vampire that just is like “Yo, can I get some of your blood?” and doesn’t kill them.
I like the Dracula ants, because their whole feeding habit is that only the larva eat meat and hard products, and the adult can only drink things... So how do the adults feed themselves? Well, they drink the blood of the larva (in small quantities).
Fantasy author DREAM of inventing such a strange feeding habbit.
hey does anyone know if there are any books about Dracula Ants ? Google just keeps sending me to articles or essays with like one page on them ;__;
My Dracula Ant Colony - ants that suck blood
Ok, so... one of my favorite channels on YouTube is AntsCanada, which is honestly way more exciting than it sounds. The host, Mikey Bustos, is an absolute nerd, and his charisma really carries this show. It reminds me a lot of the old school Discovery Channel documentaries about insects, but funnier. For Halloween, Mikey made a musical video about his dracula ant colony, and it's one of my favorite things right now... I just had to share it. Fair warning, these ants are weird. Their brood/larva are more adept at digesting food than the adult workers, so the worker ants bring the brood to a food source, and then drink the blood of the brood to survive. It's one of those species of animals that just makes you say WTF nature! But yeah... real life vampires, in ant form! Kinda reminds me of Regis... baby blood. Ok, I'll shut up now. 🤣
