I am the author of 'Animate'... I took a year off to write fic and then the pandemic hit and it's been almost four years of hiatus now. YES I still plan on finishing it. Eventually.

I may also do spontaneous prompts if they inspire something! And I don't mind people leaving prompts in my inbox [over 18 for anything adult in nature, thanks]. I may answer mail directed to characters I own or write for, or just like, if you ask. I would like to write more spontaneously and have a bit more social interaction and fun on here, so don't be afraid to 'ask' me things. It can be fun stuff, RP stuff... [Also if you use the word 'macho' at me in my mail box I might break down laughing and never answer you]. I deal with trolls by chewing on them for enrichment. Sometimes tumblr delays my messages... Sometimes I keep an ask or hate mail forever for emotional support reasons. Sorry!

Writing is also probably only 1/10th or less of what I do! I also do lots of art, draw, paint, build and make things, etc... And one of my main projects that's on pause atm is making a videogame. I stream sometimes, even! On twitch. And I have a youtube!

I do maintain a regular blog here about what goes on in my little gremlin life... I tend to make a post at least once a month. [HA!]

I'd really like to find people I get along with who are also in their 30's -50's and have similar interests, so don't be afraid to DM me to chat.

So I started to feel better after My neck re-aligned that half of the way back to normal, and started cleaning.

Now everything hurts, but I am pretty sure because I just spent 3 days doing chores after telling myself I would take a break.

I just have to wipe the floor and maybe do a small load of laundry.

I am hoping I continue to feel okay-ish with my hand at least 50% functioning so I can start going through bins.

I put through a walmart order today, and once it gets here, I am going to try ordering groceries from a grocery store.

I have the most solid action plan possible for how to downsize and get this place looking like a normal apartment, I just need my body to cooperate.

In the meantime my kitchen and all my dishes are clean.

I am ordering a more aggressive drain tool though. I haven't been able to get the sink working properly since I moved in and I don't even know the last time the pipes were properly cleared.

No response about my toilet still, so I think once my hands work and I have a wrench I will be fixing it myself.

My ass and leg go numb every time I try to sit here in this armchair though, that is an annoying new problem,

I put pressure on the side of my neck last night where it felt good and the opposite side of my upper spine crunched like 4 disks back into place, no help with my neck though,

What's the worst that can happen if you do it anyway? Genuinely. The literal worst. Catastrophise about it with me for a sec.

Will your mum yell at you? You're an adult. Yelling at fellow adults is Not Okay Actually. (Yelling at kids is also not okay but let's take this one step at a time.) If your mum is yelling at you, a fellow adult, she's the one being weird and out of line. You asked your friend and they said so too (me. I'm the friend.)

Will she cut off your phone plan? That would be a problem. Can you look into whether you can afford to switch to a new plan she doesn't have access to? Most phone companies will let you port your number over pretty easily.

Will she cut you off financially? Run the numbers again. Can you afford for that to happen? If the answer is no, that's okay, I believe you and I know you're making the best decision for your own well-being that you can in the moment. If there's anything you can do to make it more affordable, I do suggest doing that, though.

Will she be physically violent, inclusive of breaking stuff that belongs to you? That’s assault. That's a crime. It's not okay for her to do that and she almost certainly knows it.

Will she stop talking to you? Honestly I gotta say at this point that's not sounding like a bad outcome. It sucks. It really really sucks and I'm sorry if that's a choice you're having to make, but take it from someone who's been there and done that: when someone who is being abusive to you (stalking is abuse! Yelling at you is abuse! Threatening to cut off your funds if you don't do what they want forever is abuse! Breaking your stuff or physically hurting you is abuse!) decides of their own volition to cut you off, it hurts for a hot minute, and then you suddenly realise that you can breathe, and it feels so. I respect the fuck out of this. The whole site is trying its hardest to go against every selling point the dog robots have as its selling points.

The dog robots are supposed to be autonomous, threehalves is explicitly only for being piloted by a human. The giant horns make it difficult for this machine to enter through doorways, and that is the point. Coupled with the built-in weak points, it is very easy to disable this thing, so it can't be used by the police or the military effectively.

OP alluded to how unsettling the machine looks, and I believe that it was a concious decision; the robot dogs have garnered sympathy due to their apperance, which makes it easier for the police to morally justify their use. This thing? You're not gonna get many people to sympathise with it. The only people who would are monster and-or robot fuckers, and I believe these circles generally understand that a machine cannot be trusted (though of course many would willingly approach it for pervert reasons (positive) knowing full well it's a bad idea).

one argument you often see about fanfiction is that it's like 'training wheels' writing? like 'oh it's fine to do that while you're still learning, it's easier than coming up with your own ideas'. and I have to say I have just never agreed with that.

in my experience it's actually pretty common for newbie fanfiction writers to gravitate towards coming up with OCs rather than writing about the canon characters (hence the infamous Mary Sue); this suggests that many people find that 'easier' than attempting to write about pre-existing characters.

I would say that recreating the characterisation, mood and general vibes of an existing work of fiction is in fact a skill in and of itself that's acquired via practice. A common compliment delivered to fanfiction writers is how well they have captured the spirit of the original work. Inexperienced fanfiction writers fail to do this.

When creating an original character you can, ultimately, say anything about them and now it's canon bcos you created them and you said so. conversely, well, if you are covering a well known song and start playing the wrong notes people will notice immediately.

In addition: a lot of fanfiction, IMO, is in actuality a form of metafictional literary analysis. a story where two characters sit down and talk about their feelings about a canonical event? literary analysis, which is of course a skill. Sometimes fanfiction is bad bcos the writer is not good at interpreting texts.

finally I have made this point before but you never really see anyone suggesting that fictional works based on existing public domain texts are on 'easy mode'. is it 'easier' to write something based on a copyrighted work than a public domain work? Of course it isn't.

A major strength of the transformative work is its ability to create dramatic irony. If a fanfiction's emotional resonance is dependent on being familiar with the source material that's not necessarily a bad thing. sometimes it's a sign that the author has done a really skillful job of engaging with said source material.

Thinking about Eridian trauma again and I had an idea. Judging by Rocky's... well, everything: paranoia, compulsion, hyper-alertness and rumination are all commonly developed subconscious stress responses to past threats, by both humans and eridians alike.

What if psychosis and hallucinations are a much, much bigger component of Eridian PTSD than ours? Unlike their perfect recall, Eridian's spatial memory is extremely bad. Which makes sense: they can't "blink" or close their eyes like us, they're never Not Echolocating and unaware of their surroundings, so their brains don't keep a memory of the place they were just in (like we do) unless they make a conscious effort of it.

Or unconscious. See: rumination and trauma. Which makes it extremely ripe ground for unreality.

Example: When Rocky finally returns to Erid, he needs to keep all the doors in the house open so he can "see" everything, because all Eridian buildings/rooms are sound insulated for privacy, and whenever he can't "see" through a closed door his brain autofills whatever is behind it with parts of the Blip-a
