So with the new Universal Monsters: Dracula comic out (the first of 4 issues at least!) I’ve decided to start compiling the new stuff we learn from them into a post for myself and for others who cant get the comics! So far in the first issue alone we’re getting a little more info about the characters that we obviously couldn’t get in the 1931 Film, and its further defines the… I’ll say AU story because 1931 Dracula is very much different from the original novel haha.
Jonathan Harker spends a lot of time with Jack Seward (who is Mina’s father in this, as established in the movie) at the asylum. Apparently, it took a long time for Seward to warm up to John, enough that Mina doesn’t mind his spending more time with her father than her
Quincy mention! Still no Arthur (yet) but Quincy is mentioned as Jonathan's school friend
Renfield was, obviously, accused of killing all 14 sailors aboard the Vesta but, also obviously, denies it. Seward thinks he doesn’t have “just sickness of the mind” but also a “blood sickness” that has caused him to act this way
Van Helsing is mentioned but not by name, also NOT as a friend of Seward! Jonathan mentions him, says he’s a mad old professor who comes down to the club he and Quincy spend time at, telling everyone stories about ghouls and werewolves. Seward thinks its all rubbish and says so
Mina was there when Renfield was brought in, and also stole papers about her father talking to the Constable. Her and Lucy are v curious about what happened, but Mina a bit more morbidly so. That said, Lucy cracks a joke about wanting a man to rip out her throat with their teeth, like they found aboard the Vesta
WOLF DRACULA WOLF DRACULA MY BELOVED!!
Renfield can feel Dracula in his mind, Draculas thoughts. But Dracula doesn’t think in words; he thinks in need and hunger
Seward tells Renfield that he’s had his blood examined and they believe he has a blood sickness and wishes to perform an experimental treatment; bleed him, but replace his blood with ‘good blood’ to cure him. Renfield does not want to be cured and flips out, says that his blood is not theirs and that it belongs to his Master ♥
The art for the comic is AMAZING too, gorgeous and haunting, especially the pale figure of Renfield. He practically glows, his eyes and lips black… And sometimes he’s portrayed as monstrous and UGH I love it so much….
I'll more to this as the issues come out as well ♥
