DRACULA'S CASTLE Bram Castle, Romania Dracula's Castle is located in the Carpathian Mountains. Bram Stoker who wrote Dracula, never visited Romania (Transylvania). Vlad the Impaler (Vlad III) had thousands of people killed. Vlad established his capital in Wallachia. When the Turkish approached, they were greeted with the sight of thousands of victims impaled inside a forest. They didn't go any further. Vlads' 14th century castle has been restored. Dracula and vampires have remained popular in Romania, with the end of Communism, tourists have more freedom. In the town of Targoviste you can see the ruins of Vlad's palace. Vlad had once nailed the hats onto his visitors heads.
