"I don't want the Boggart to turn into her either" implies to me that nana is not a healthy or beneficial alternative to Snape, which means that Snape either isn't that bad or dear old nana warrants a CPS visit.

yeah, that’s the reading i got too. she’s not a positive alternative to snape and my argument still is that the ONLY reason that boggart turns into snape instead of augusta is because snape was literally in the room moments before. neville might have thought more immediately of his grandmother if snape hadn’t just be there, seconds before, even if he sees snape more often at school. but it’s not because snape’s BEHAVIOR is worse than his grandmother’s and while i think augusta is strict, i’d like to believe that she isn’t actually abusing him. (there’s potential there, as i said, but not a lot of evidence in canon that she and neville had a hugely negative relationship. she does seem to care about even, even if she is hard on him.) 

and honestly the boggart SHOULD turn into bellatrix lestrange bc nothing you can say will convince me that neville is somehow more afraid of snape than the woman who literally tortured his parents to madness.... but once again, we can’t know how much neville knows about his parents’ attack when he’s thirteen. (and probably an author slip - if rowling wasn’t sure about neville’s background in book three, then that would explain why he wouldn’t think of the lestranges. or perhaps we just weren’t meant to know about it until book five.)
