the fact that fintech platforms like Polymarket opened up a free grocery store in NYC to entice mostly young, low income Black & brown ppl to be aware of and sign up for, what is essentially, a gambling app, is so sinister.
like how apps like Draftkings and Prize Picks have clearly targeted marketing towards Black and brown people with their use of sponsoring or being sponsored by every major Black celebrity, comedian, or influencer.
what’s fucked up is Black creators wouldn’t even be susceptible to taking these COINTELPRO ass sponsors if they were getting paid the same high rates nonblack creators get paid for sponsoring the same products, if said companies even scout for or reach out to, Black creators at all.
it’s crazy to me that a nonblack woman in Iowa with 3,000 followers on any platform can comfortably pay her bills in sponsorships or consistently be tapped for PR lists and trips, but Black creators with double or triple that amount get little to no motion at all, even with the most creative or better produced, content.
these racial and ethnic disparities show themselves being represented in every industry, profession, and type of labor.
