Moving land freight across the continental US takes a long time. Usually about a week by truck, longer by train. On any given night there are truckers and railroad engineers all across the fuck-off huge expanse of North America who are spending the night alone so that thirty to forty thousand pounds of potatoes can make it to somebody's party on time. i think about those ppl a lot; without truckers and engineers and other logistics workers, most of us would in some fashion be out of a job, run out of food, or straight up die. i hope you're having a good night, truckers.
give a man a fish and he'll make a fish unboxing video for a day but teach a man to fish and he'll be creating fishing-related short form video for the rest of his life
i think this is pretty revealing re: Trump's whole deal - you see it come out other times too, like when he said Zohran could call him a fascist if he wanted in front of the press. i think this is why he has a reputation for "honesty" among his supporters, despite being a chronic liar - he understands political communication as a tool to signal different things to different people, with the actual truth value of what you say being irrelevant. i think this is true of a lot of politicians, but what distinguishes Trump is that he doesn't feel compelled to maintain kayfabe and will freely acknowledge it. remember this?
a lot of Trump's appeal is that he's very direct about the fact that he's a bad person! when reporters or other politicians confront him about this, he's not mad at the implication that he's corrupt or dishonest or amoral - he is those things, and he's proud of it, and it's part of his brand - he is mad (or pretending to be mad) that they are signaling defiance. he doesn't care if you think he's a piece of shit, he just doesn't want you to express it in a way that threatens him.
"revenge is bad" and "war is bad" are overused theme but i think people do genuinely read reminding of these two claims. pretty often! if we were a wiser beast we wouldnt need to hear it all the time
On Tumblr, the humble like can mean a great many things:
"This is funny"
"This is insightful"
"I agree with this political statement"
"I agree, that is annoying"
"I'm marking this post to save it for later"
"I'm sorry, you have my sympathy"
"Get well soon"
"That's a very pretty picture"
"The subject of this pinup is very hot"
"I desire you carnally"
"Meow"
actually the thing where I'm constantly commenting on people's speech has gotten me into trouble before, if you can believe it. it turns out that "hey I like your speech impediment" is uh not always a winner
