Vinyl records are circular because it's an efficient use of space: the grooves that encode the music are laid out in a spiral on the disc, so that the needle only has to move as far as the disc's radius to read the entire thing. Before this clever idea was thought of, the grooves were instead laid out in a straight line, and every LP was a narrow rectangle more than a thousand feet long. To flip an album to side b at least two people were needed, one at each end, coordinating via shouted instructions.
It's so fucking baffling to me that hospitals went back to not masking. Like good news, we have lots of empirical evidence that masking prevents infections! Now to go back to walking around this absolute petri dish of a building filled with extremely vulnerable people unmasked
give a man a fish and he'll make a fish unboxing video for a day but teach a man to fish and he'll be creating fishing-related short form video for the rest of his life
On Tumblr, the humble like can mean a great many things:
"This is funny"
"This is insightful"
"I agree with this political statement"
"I agree, that is annoying"
"I'm marking this post to save it for later"
"I'm sorry, you have my sympathy"
"Get well soon"
"That's a very pretty picture"
"The subject of this pinup is very hot"
"I desire you carnally"
"Meow"
it's not really how the law works but it's insanely funny (bad!!!!) that making sure you don't leave visible marks when beating your children is the legal standard in England. Really efficiently bundling the incentives there.
ok i was being coy abt this project back when i actually made these (☃️) bc i hadn't finished all my gifting, but i finally got around to rehoming the last ones so now i can post abt them! all variations on the same pattern obviously but i had fun coming up with color combinations :)
IMO, the most toxic part of the "unreasonable DMing standards" is nothing to do with the game itself but the assumption that the DM/GM is also the person who runs the logistical aspects of the game.
Like, if you're new to a game, it's natural to defer to the GM on rules issues, etc*. There are good and bad ways to do that, but still.
But on out-of-game issues, well, you're an adult, right**? You can make a calendar. You can get snacks. And if the GM is already handling that stuff, you can show some initiative (pun intended) and ask if they could use the help.
*Operating under the perhaps-unwarranted assumption that GMing is inherently for experienced people, but that's another post.
**If you're a non-adult in a game run by adults, you're excused, though you can still do this stuff if you want to.
