I finally got enough achievements so that I could get the Raven Head! I've colored it (and the free wings) as best I can so that I can be a giant pigeon.
In celebration of GW2's Dragon Bash being on, I thought I'd make some of the seasonal snacks! In order: Dragon's Breath Buns, Dragonfly Cupcakes, Candied Dragon Roll, and Dragon's Revelry Starcakes (biscuit form). Recipes come from Terrible Trio Creations and Pixel Perfect Baking. More detail/reviews under the cut.
Dragon's Breath Buns (Curry Buns)
I think this is my favourite curry ever now. I don't tend to do well with spice, but this curry is absolutely delicious and its spiciness doesn't overstay its welcome. Equally delightful as a dinner on rice and inside pastry. You should make this immediately. I want ten thousand more of these forever thanks. Unfortunately this is my only unequivocal win this year.
Dragonfly Cupcakes
Pretty tasty cupcakes. Recipe didn't mention self-raising flour or baking powder, so the cupcakes ended up very dense. I think definitely use one of those if you make this. For the amount of lemon stuff that went into it, the lemon flavour was remarkably subtle, which was nice. If I did it again I'd play around with those proportions to make it a bit stronger, and also because I don't tend to buy lemon curd. In contrast, the flavour of the icing ended up very strong, so I'd definitely add less jam.
Candied Dragon Roll
This was the most experimental thing we did, and while I've decided I'm not a big fan of dessert sushi (or making sushi rice in general), we had a lot of fun with this one, particularly when our first attempt completely failed and we had deconstructed sushi for dessert. I wouldn't really recommend this one though, if you're going to make sushi then just do it normally.
Dragon's Revelry Starcake
I've made this one before and I still love it. First disclaimer: depending on the size of your cookie cutter, this recipe is probably going to make a LOT of biscuits. Secondly, these turned out a lot butterier than I expected or remembered, which is why they look a bit melty. Again, I don't know if that's a recipe issue or I messed up the ingredients somewhere along the line. It doesn't make them any less delicious, and keeping them in the fridge means the texture/solidity is perfect. This is the recipe that inspired me to do more of them this year, it's delicious, you should make these.
In conclusion: the starcake biscuits are great, the cupcakes are pretty good, dessert sushi is A Decision™, and everyone should make that curry immediately. Oh, and Happy Dragon Bash!
