(Dragon)Snouts that crinkle and curl back from mighty and sharp, glistening fangs as soon as there´s an irritation. Nares that dramatically arch and flare wide enough to show the softly pulsating insides. All red, swollen and vexed looking enough to indicate their sneezy struggles have been going on for a while. And that there won´t be an easy relief to them either.  They try to rub their big snout desperately against any surface that might be able to quell the deep, lingering itch. But neither that nor the harsh, huffing snorts can reach it. The only thing that helps is a huge, disastrously wet and more than a bit dangerous sneeze. Or several.

Literally my favorite fantasy sneeze trope of all time has to be dragon or dragon-related characters (half-dragons, dragons in human form, humans with dragon powers, etc) who blow smoke out their noses when they sneeze. Mere words cannot fully convey how much I love this concept.

I think it’s because it conveniently sidesteps the actual harm and destruction that breathing fire or some other element could cause, but it’s still disruptive and thus something the character would want to avoid doing and try to hold back. It’s so helpless and desperate. Plus you have all the added fun stuff of something visibly being expelled from the nose, it pretty much demanding a reaction from everyone nearby, and the character who’s probably powerful by their very nature being brought to their knees by a sneeze.

Personally I think I find it especially cute if the character in question can’t breathe fire or anything like that, and sneezing out smoke is really just the best they can do. I’m not typically into humiliation really, but having the character be especially self-conscious about this particular weakness just kills me.
