My hometown is Bellingham! Are you from Whatcom County? Which town?
Yes, J and I are from the most beautiful county in the PNW :D - not that I'm biased or anything. We're from Blaine! We're nowhere remotely as far north now (admittedly most places aren't as far north as the literal border with Canada haha); he was born and lived his entire life in Whatcom County until he graduated from Western, while my family had bounced around various low-rent homes in Oregon until my dad got a job in Bellingham when I was in elementary school, and we moved up to Birch Bay.
We'd been living in eastern Oregon for a couple of years, and I've never forgotten the drive into Whatcom County. It was September, and eastern Oregon was very dried-out by the end of summer as well as hot and rocky, and it was such an experience to see it give way to more and more plants and life and water as we cut northwest across Washington, but it was really as we crossed into Whatcom County and drove under the canopies of red-gold maple trees that I was just stunned. I'd lived in western Oregon and everything, but driving towards Bellingham and then further north after years on the east side was still more beautiful than anything I'd really seen.
We loved being so close to Bellingham, too. J and I used to hang out at Stuart's and Bellis Fair and Michael's/Henderson's and Fairhaven in general when we were in high school. The marina now and then, too. I miss it terribly tbh but it'll probably be out of our price range for a long time.
