These school holidays, I’ve challenged myself to try two things. One of those things is to paint a landscape for every working day of the holidays; ten days in all. I painted two on the first day, so here are the first five! They order from newest to oldest; there’s already an enormous difference in quality.
The other thing was to draw between six to eight hours each day. Why? To see if I like it. I’m considering leaving my role as a teacher and trying to become an illustrator full time. I need to know if I’ll like drawing that much before I make such an enormous decision.
So far I’m absolutely loving it and, given the improvement I’m already seeing with my landscapes - one of the weakest elements in my art - I think it’s realistic. Risky, but realistic. If I spend next year working hard to iron out my weaknesses, I’m hopeful I’ll stand a good chance of finding work down the road.
My partner is completely supportive of it too, which is great.
