In your description you mentioned "systems AND collectives" I'm curious, is there a difference or are they just different terms? - Alex
There’s no real difference except in which term people prefer to use for themselves. They all refer to any group of more than one person in a single body, whether it’s system or collective or cooperative or crew or anything else of that sort.
Sometimes gatekeepers like to start discourse around the word “system” and claim it’s a DID/OSDD only term, which can lead to people using something else just for convenience so they can avoid all that nonsense. In reality “system” began as a shared term and was never intended to be disordered-only.

Why not both? BZZAP!

hey, I'm gender fluid and I want top surgery really bad, but not T and I also don't think i need to go to a GIC and don't wanna use up resources i don't need.... i can't afford private surgery but getting it on the NHS feels like setting myself up failure and rejection .... are surgeons as strict as it seems about surgery/referrals? it's possible I could get a referral from my GP since he knows me well but having to go to a GIC and convincing /them/ will be much harder...
Unfortunately, unless you’re able to afford surgery privately then your only real option is to go with the NHS via a GIC. GPs aren’t able to make referrals for top surgery.
However, the good news is that the NHS is becoming more accepting and understanding of different gender identities and experiences outside of stereotypical and binary experiences. Lots of people who don’t fit the stereotypical trans narrative are able to access medical interventions such as top surgery via the NHS. It can take a little longer to obtain a top surgery referral if you’re not seeking testosterone first as they can be a little more cautious about this, but it’s still perfectly possible to obtain a top surgery referral without testosterone first.
If top surgery is something that you need then a GIC is a resource that you’re entitled to use. They’re there for everyone who needs them in some way, from exploring gender through to medically transitioning.
