Cabins and Curiosity: 3
When it comes time for Y/n and Peter to leave the friendly giant Loki, what will they go through to stay with him?
Request: @laurenandloki
First part: Cabins and Curiosity: 1
Second Part: Cabins and Curiosity: 2
Third Part: This one
Y/n awoke on top of Loki’s shoulder. Her eyes blinked open blearily at the bright light peeking through the curtained windows. The weather was peaceful as a sleeping baby and she could see the dew dripping of a plant growing right next to the glass. Loki grunted in his sleep and let out a snore. Y/n covered her mouth when laughter escaped her lips. From the scare he had given her earlier he sure didn’t seem evil now.
More like an overgrown teddy bear.
His black hair hung before his ear so she moved it out of the way before she attempted to wake him. She stood on tiptoes to reach his earlobe and gave it a gentle tug. Loki only reached up to swat her touch away, nearly knocking her off her perch. Shaken up but not defeated, she tried again. She stretched up and pulled harshly earning a rather violent reaction from him. Loki jerked forward from the unfamiliar awakening causing Y/n to fly off his shoulder. Thankfully, his hand shot up and cradled her in a cupped palm.
He brought her to his face and smiled at her.”Sorry about that dear.” He said with a deep morning voice.
“Do you feel better?” He asked, brushing some hair out of her face with a fingertip.
Y/n nodded with a toothy smile.
A knock sounded at the door making both their heads turn towards the sound, “That’s odd… I wasn’t expecting anyone.” He stands up and ambles his way to the door still holding Y/n against his chest. She rubs her cheek into the soft fabric, warm with Lokis body heat. When Loki opens the door he sees Thor standing on the doorstep, his arms crossed and Mjölnir dangling from a wrist.
“What a surprise to see you here,” Loki says dryly.
“Brother you know why I have come,” Thor states, his voice deep with entitlement.
Y/n is confused and she looks back and forth between the two giants perched on her knees. She lays both hands on Lokis’s thumb trying to look at him better as she pushes herself up. Unfortunately, all she can see is the underside of his jaw, which looks very tense. She crouches back down in the cave of his fingers.
“I don’t want to force them from you.” She hears Thor say.
“That’s what you’re going to have to do then.” Loki’s voice sounds intense with emotion. Suddenly Lokis’s hand snaps shut like a trap and begins to shake aggressively.
“Loki!” She shouts as a tear slips from the corner of her eye. He must not hear her as the trembling continues and she is jostled like a rubber ball in his fist.
Light enters the darkness and blinds her. She dizzily grabs for the nearest thing to lean against and recognizes it as Lokis thumb. She wraps herself around the appendage hanging on for dear life. Even the mighty Thor won’t be able to pull her away.
But that’s where she’s wrong.
Thor pinches her waist and causes pain to loosen her grip just enough for him to pull her off the comfort of Loki. She cries out and pounds her tiny fists against Thor’s big hands. He tucks her away in the middle, enclosing her from the outside world. The voices above are muffled and his heartbeat is echoed between palms.
“You’ll regret this brother.” Loki threats, laced with poison.
“You know I don’t want to do this, she has to return to her home planet. Her other family misses her very much.” Thor tries to comfort. Loki won’t have any of it though and shuts the door in his face.
For a while, Thor just stands there.
“Thor?” She says softly.
He ignores her and begins to walk towards wherever they are going. She sits down with a hmmph, and crosses her arms over her chest annoyed with Thor.
“Thor? I gotta use the bathroom…” She squeaks. Finally, he opens his palms, his big face peering in.
“ Can you put me down?” She asks hopefully. Thor eyes her with suspicion as if doubting her trust. She gives him her best puppy eye in which he finally relents and kneels to let her down in the grass.
“Don’t go too far…” He orders softly. Y/n assures him that she won’t and finds a spot that is out of sight for him. As he looks away she makes a break for it.
Her little legs pump fiercely with effort in the way Thor came from. She hurdles over twigs that seem like trees, dodges lake-like puddles, and blades of grass that seem more like telephone poles. An orange lily catches her eye and reminds her of the ones found in the rooftop garden on the Tower. For a moment she becomes homesick. She's distracted when in the distance, she hears Thor call her name. She detects fear in the worried calls and a pang of guilt shoots throughout her heart but she ignores it.
She wants to be with Loki.
Her pace slows fifteen minutes in and she looks down to see that her pant legs are splattered with mud. Panting, she stops to rest on top of a mushroom. She checks to make sure the mushroom has a brown stem and sits down relishing how the ache in her legs releases. She looks up at the canopy of leaves that seem lightyears away. To her, the trees are mountainous, but she remembers that they are a regular size to Loki.
She notices that the air holds humid quality to it. Raindrops begin to trickle from the sky and fall upon her upturned face. She immediately comes out of her trance realizing that if she wants to get back to Loki safely she needs to move.
Now.
Water seeps into her worn sneakers soaking her socks. Every step she takes is like walking through squishy mud. A flash of orange flies past her peripheral and she stops. Turning around she recognizes the orange lily she had passed earlier. Then she sees the familiar oak tree along with the gigantic puddle. With horror, she realizes she’d been going in circles.
She tries to backtrack her steps from Thor, but her mind apparently hadn’t cared for details in her bliss of escape. The rainwater now pools near midcalf. She tries to scale the muddy hill but it’s too wet to get proper traction under her feet and she ends up slipping, matting herself in the sludge. She leans against the slippery slope defeated.
Right after he had lost Y/n, Thor ran back to Loki’s cabin. His fist pounded desperately at the door until Loki opened it with a grumpy look. Though, when he lays eyes on Thor he does look surprised.
“What do you want now?” He growls out.
“I lost Y/n.” Thor blurts out.
Loki’s face changes from intense grumpiness to positively worried.
“W-where? Do you know if she’s okay?” Loki stutters as his worry is evident and he stumbles forward grabbing ahold of Thor’s shirt.
“She said she needed to use the bathroom so I let her but then she ran.”
“I would have too if I was with your blundering ass,” Loki grumbles and takes a step back, releasing his shirt.
Peter pops his head from Loki’s pocket.
“We have to find Y/n!” He exclaims.
Thor’s eyes stare at him confused until a look of understanding washed over him.
“Yeah, you forgot this little guy.” Loki grunts and pushes Peter gently back into the pocket with a nudge on his head.
Soon the trio ventures out into the wilderness looking for Y/n. Loki can’t help but think that this forest has never looked bigger than now. Hope swells in his heart for the discovery of his Litte Button.
The daylight dims away and leaves Y/n shivering. The wetness of her clothes seeps into her bones, she had noticed earlier that she could no longer feel her toes. So she had stood and moved around to regain the missed feeling. Every little sound made her jump. An owl hoot, crickets chirping, the howl of a wolf. That last one sent her running back to the shelter of her hill, hoping that no hungry animal chose her for dinner. Rhythmic pounding starts up and at first, she finds the sensation familiar recognizing how Loki's steps felt in the safety of his home. But out here that could be anything. Her legs tremble with effort, dethawing from the cold that had made her joints tight. Her leg limps for a minute as she trots quickly away from the trembling footsteps.
Run
Run
Run
It’s the only word that sounds in her head and now she tries to calm herself. She recalls screaming at all those characters in scary movies for being so dumb and practically causing their death. If only she had known what predicament she would end up in.
The distance she thought she had gained proved futile as it felt each of her steps was tiny compared to her attacker. Just then, a particularly forceful impact made her stumble and fall. She pushed herself up urging her legs to just move. And they definitely did.
She would have won a trophy for how fast she pumped her legs. She zoomed past black shapes in the dark and jumped over branches like they were simple stones. Her veins filled with adrenaline.
She could do this. She was gonna make it.
And then she slammed into a wall effectively knocking her off her feet.
Loki walked through the dark forest with Thor. The rain pounded down harshly and he worried Y/n would drown in such high waters. Not to say that the small bumps he stepped over effortlessly would seem like mountains to little Y/n.
“Thor are you sure-” Loki was cut off by an animal running into his hiking boot. He looked and kneeled down to help the little creature only to see a humanoid form.
“Y/n?” He said hopefully.
He immediately scooped her up and held her to his chest feeling how chilled she was. He could hear the wheezing of her lungs. Suddenly, a question hit him.
Why had she been running?
“Loki… something was chasing me.” She cried out and grasped little fistfuls of his shirt burying her face in the fabric.
Then he heard the awful growling.
From the darkness emerges an ugly humanoid creature. The once healthy human flesh drips off the bones of the tall, spindly creature. The mouth hangs open with a broken jaw, an eyeball nearly dropping out of the socket, and two holes where the cartilage of a nose used to be.
Apparently, when Y/n had been running she had awoken the protectors of a nearby burial mound.
The Dragur.
“Loki! Hide them!” Thor shouts as he winds his hammer back ready to swing. Loki slips Y/n into his pocket where Peter resides. He watches as Thor swings his hammer upwards and knocks the Dragur off their feet, their crippled body falling over. He breathes a sigh of relief seeing that he was dead. That is until he hears even more growling.
He turns on his heel to see a group of Dragur slowly making their way to them. Locking eyes with Thor he prepares to fight.
Loki casts five illusions of himself, confusing some of the Dragur. It gives him time to separate the bunch and take them out with a dagger to the throat. Up close their decaying stench is horrendous; worse than even that of a three-day-dead skunk. In his peripheral, he sees Thor summon lighting to electrocute five Dragur at once. In his momentary distraction, a Dragur had crept upon him from the back ready to take a bite out of his throat.
Bloodthirsty idiots.
He spins quickly and with agility sweeping his leg to knock their own from beneath them. As expected, they fall to their knees and he slashes their throat.
He spins around ready to expect another attack but finds the circle of trees empty. Thor comes to stand by his side and pats him on the back with a look of triumph glowing in his eyes.
“Not bad brother! But it looks like I still hold the trophy for the best warrior.” He brags. Loki rolls his eyes.
“Oh piss off, would you?”
Thor lets out a deep chuckle.
The trek to the house is long and tiring. They reach the doorstep in an hour. Loki reaches to pick Peter and Y/n out but a light slap to his finger makes him retreat.
“Y/n’s asleep!” Peter whispers.
Loki takes great care when he scoops them both out, sheltering them with a hand from the rain. He walks inside and sets Y/n on a blanket snapping his fingers to clear away the grime on her body and replace it with a fresh change of clothes. He pays no attention to Thor as he walks into his room and lets Y/n and Peter off onto their beds. He quickly showers and throws on clean clothes ready to climb into his own bed. Before he falls asleep however he pries his fingers under Y/n and Peter to let them off onto his rising and falling chest. Sleep finds him easily with the events of the gruesome day.
Y/n awakes from a vivid nightmare. Only to realize it was the past events of the earlier day. She senses that she sleeps on a moving platform, Loki’s chest. His hand is an extra blanket with fingers that have just the right amount of weight. Not too heavy, nor too light. Despite the immense comfort of her situation Y/n still trembles when she thinks about those horrendous creatures. She had thought a mere wolf was chasing her, not one of those. She whimpers thinking of what would have happened had one of them got their hands on her.
Her cries awaken Loki, and he instantly peers under the comforting hand on top of her. His finger makes circles upon her tiny back.
“Do you want to talk about it Little Button?” He whispers to not wake up Peter.
“I could have died today.” She blurts.
Loki sighs, and puts Peter in his own bed tucking him in so he can properly talk to Y/n.
“Yes, you could have. Why did you run from Thor like that? You know this forest isn’t sized for little things like you.”
Y/n twiddled with her fingers, her face turning a bright red. Thankfully, Loki couldn’t see this in the dark.
“I wanted to be here with you Loki.” She admits in a small voice.
She could tell Loki wanted to scold her for being so reckless. But she guessed he figured she had learned her lesson. Instead, he herded her close to where his neck met shoulder and let her snuggle into the crook there.
“Please don’t scare me like that again Little Button. I can’t bear to see you hurt, or to not have you in this world with me.” His voice rumbled through her like thunder, however this time she wasn’t scared of the rumble. She welcomed it.
“Promise me Y/n,” Loki ordered firmly but with a soft voice.
“I promise.” She squeaked.
And she vowed to never break that promise.
