Drawing Techniques in Art & Design

Journal Entry 001

“Mind Map”- Focus: Food, Nature, Animals, Places and Celebrations associated with the Caribbean. 

Maybe I’m hungry-but food seemed to come to me easiest!

I followed along that path. Although my thoughts on steelpan lead me to local folklore- a VERY tempting concept, it seems too far removed from the initial 5 themes. 

Even the chance to delve into folklore may lead to some interesting pieces. But I digress. It does not provide the same intrigue as what I eventually decided upon.

Fruits (and vegetables).

The sheer array of vibrant colours and variety of fruits has me sold on the idea and has subsequently lead me to explore how these elements blend together in the different stages of ripening, shape, texture, how they stand out/contrast next to each other, sliced open or when exposed to sunlight.

Those prospects definitely have me excited at the possibilities.

An added bonus came while going through the mind map-I happened upon the idea of illustrating my font as coral. Definitely something I can take a closer look at.
