Original Game: Celeste This image was posted on an online forum for mountain climbers. The girl in the picture is Madeline, an amateur climber, celebrating her accomplishment of climbing Mt. Celeste with a homemade strawberry pie. Most people are more curious about the shadowy girl behind her. When asked, she simply said it was her shadow and refused to comment further. There are quite a few stories surrounding Mt. Celeste. There are several trails of varying difficulty up the mountain, for beginners and experts alike, all with the same amazing view at the top. Midway up the mountain is a surprisingly luxurious hotel, and there are several historic sites with fascinating lore. In theory, the mountain should be incredibly popular. But several hikers disappearing on the trail and dozens more fleeing the mountain in terror have chilled the trail's reputation. The hotel has fallen into disrepair due to reduced clients, and people investigating the ruins report everything from dusty blank stones to alien monstrosities chasing them out. Only a handful of people a year are willing to risk climbing Mt. Celeste. They say you find yourself on this climb...and you might not like what you see.

Original Game: Metal Gear Solid Tretij Rebenok, codename Psycho Mantis, is an incredibly powerful psychic. He has frequently claimed to be the most powerful practitioner of psychokinesis in the world, and few would argue that claim. His powers manifested at a young age, driving him insane with the influx of negative feelings from the people around him. He ended up wearing a specialized gas mask in order to prevent other peoples emotions and thoughts from entering his head. After setting his home village ablaze, Mantis was taken to a research facility. Despite loathing the scientists, he appreciated the chance to hone his powers. Once he was freed from the facility due to suspicious circumstances involving another fire, Mantis became a freelance spy, offering his services to the highest bidder. He gradually became disgusted with the whole of humanity, but was simultaneously drawn to extreme negative emotions. His power and his misanthropy brought him into contact with Alma and Alessa, eventually becoming Alma's de facto champion. What exactly his 'queen' wants, he doesn't particularly care...as long as he gets the chance to hurt and kill...

Original game: American McGee's Alice Alice Liddell has not had a great life. It began idyllic enough, with a loving family - father, mother and sister Lizzie - who would smile and nod whenever she spoke of her adventures in Wonderland with the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter. She had quite the imagination, enough to gain the attention of one Charles Dodgson, who wrote of her amazing adventures in a book that took Britannia by storm. But her family was a victim of a most horrific arson, with Alice barely surviving the fire that destroyed the Liddell manor. The trauma and survivor's guilt drove her into the Rutledge Asylum, by all accounts a horrific place to stay. Their...unorthodox treatments failed to fix her, and she ended up retreating into her mind, returning to Wonderland to combat her own demons herself. Strangely enough, she succeeded, and was shortly released from the asylum. But in many ways, she never left Wonderland...or perhaps Wonderland never left her. After confronting the arsonist that murdered her family, she found her Wonderland beginning to consume the reality around her in ways that she couldn't attribute to simple hallucinations. Eventually, she became aware of other individuals like her...girls with connections to a strange realm that was neither real nor imaginary, a realm that could be shaped by guilt, fear and dreams. Taking the crown of her former subconscious, Alice set out to meet these girls, to counsel and to be counselled, to understand and be understood. But they alone weren't enough, and Alice realized that she would have to establish a more...solid order than 4 girls who were all, in one way or another, a few cards short of a deck... ----------- And thus begins my project, which I have dubbed 'The Dream Deck'! 52 cards based on Video Game Characters that all feature psychological, mental, and symbolic aspects. Please let me know if you have any thoughts for which characters I should include. I'm going to be pretty loose with who's going to be in the deck, as you'll see later, but I do want characters for whom the psychological aspects are a big part of who they are and represent. Perhaps it'll be a little clearer with more cards coming out, so stay tuned. And I cannot stress this enough...COMMENT! I need advice and recommendations, so please let me know what you think.
