On the subject of Derse/Prospit dreaming, Hussie’s posted a response on that subject. Most of it remains spoiler-y, but the end gives a pretty decent summary, of which these are the most relevant non-spoiler-y bits.
“Being from Derse means you are from a culture of offense and aggression. Being from Prospit means the opposite. You could argue that these are qualities that either rub off on the dreamers, or they are designated as those dreamers in the first place because of those qualities. You could take the view that these are innate tendencies to overcome … Or maybe sometimes they are tendencies that are resisted, and need to be understood and embraced.”
There really isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer to the question. Just like the rest of the game, it’s all incredibly varied from person to person.
OH MY GOD I LOVE YOU. This is golden. Not only is that an elegant explanation for the Prospit/Derse sorting hat question (though I’m not about to assume that’s the ENTIRE explanation), but this is TOTALLY RELEVANT TO MY IDEAS ABOUT EMBRACING/DENYING YOUR ROLE. Hussie puts it even better: 'overcome’. I like that. I’ll adapt my theory accordingly.
Anyway, going by this explanation, maybe Vriska’s assignment to Prospit was exactly what it appeared to be at first: a punch in the face, getting shunted to the ‘goody two-shoes’ team to learn some humility… perhaps in the hopes that it would ‘rub off on her’. :D
