Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!! Here’s a fic for the lovely @lord0fcalamity // @bwddraws !! I really liked your prompt on Milla and Velvet meeting, so I hope this is to your liking!! I even included Alt!Milla and Laphicet too, so I really do hope you like this!!
Summary: Velvet didn’t expect anyone to approach her in this cold weather. However, another woman had other plans. Despite that, she doesn’t find herself pushing the blonde away too quickly.
“Hm. Seems I am not the only one who’s outfit has been deemed too ‘risque’ for tastes.”
Eyebrows scrunched up as golden eyes met pink. What an odd way to start a conversation, especially when all Velvet was doing was waiting on Laphicet. Sometimes, waiting for someone to finish shopping was not the best of ideas. As Velvet was opening her mouth to give her own opinion, she took a glance at what the other woman was wearing. A crop top and a rather short skirt-- if other’s glances were anything to go by, she was getting as much commentary on it as she was on her own. With a sigh, Velvet decided to change her stance on her words.
“In the end, it doesn’t matter; it gets the job done. I can care less of what others think of me.” The other lit up, as if happy she understood. “Of course; clothing should matter not if one’s trying to make acquaintances.” she continues, causing Velvet to sigh internally. She was stuck talking to this woman, it seemed.
“However, your appearance comes off as full of anger and spite. Is there a reason for such an appearance?” A genuine question; the Lord of Calamity only expected such questions from Laphicet. Eyes shifted from the woman to the street for a moment, knowing that this was bound to happen at least once during their travels. “Ever heard of the Lord of Calamity?” she says, her tone having a slight edge to it; Velvet didn’t know what kind of response she’d get. The woman seemed to connect the dots, and much to her surprise, she chuckles.
“So you are this supposed Lord of Calamity?” she starts, eyes sparkling. “You do not seem to truly ‘fit the bill’, as the saying goes.” That sparked a bit of anger within Velvet, a bit of it seeping into her next words. “And who are you to say that?” She accompanied her words with a slight glare, causing the blonde to shift a bit; for a fight, Velvet didn’t know.
“I am Milla Maxwell, the Lord of Spirits.” she said, as if it were a fact above all else. “I meant no disrespect, though I do understand how it may have came off that way. Just another thing that makes humans so interesting, I suppose.” Apology or not, Velvet didn’t want to let her anger fade just yet; she felt that Milla dismissed her as some child playing games. But she knew that causing a scene here would leave the rest of her current mess of a group in a bit of a bind, so she let it go. “Whatever.” she spat, looking back at the store Laphicet had entered. Just how long it was taking him?
Milla, on the other hand, was talking aloud to Undine, something Velvet quickly picked up on. ‘A spirit… could it possibly be a powerful malak?’ she thought, keeping her gaze as subtle as she could; she wanted to find out more about Milla before even attempting anything else. ‘Her bluff of being the Lord of Spirits… could it be true? … no, Eizen and Laphicet would have said something.’
“So, are all the rumors about you true?” Milla starts again, shaking Velvet out of her thoughts. Velvet scowled slightly, not in the mood to continue talking to her again, but she puts her own feelings aside to reply; even if she knew who she was now, she tried to maintain a line of sanity. “You mean the rumors of how I devour humans as a snack, and how I can turn people into stone?” she says, a slight amount of humor in her tone; she did slightly admire how crazy the imagination could be.
“Yes; though I do have to say, some of them are illogical; such as the one where they say your head is a wolf’s head.” Milla replied with a chuckle, causing Velvet to suppress a laugh. “Do humans always create such wild depictions, or is that because your title of ‘Lord of Calamity’?”
“How am I supposed to know that?” Velvet replies, trying to keep the small smirk off her lips.
“Well, you are the one the rumors are talking about, aren’t they?”
“That doesn’t mean I’m supposed to know what every human thinks about a topic.”
As Velvet and Milla kept up a somewhat civil conversation, there’s three people looking on from the inside of a store. Elle and Laphicet were grinning from ear to ear as Milla, Elle’s caretaker for the day, sighing to herself. Just what did she get dragged into this time by miss Elle mel Marta, she couldn’t exactly tell, especially with the kid giggling loudly right next to the boy she had bumped into.
“See, see, I told you it would work!” Elle says, grinning from ear to ear. Sure, she at first had a selfish reason for chasing away the other Milla, but when her favorite Milla was around, she wanted nothing else. Laphicet’s eyes were sparkling, wondering just how did she know that Velvet would strike up a nice conversation with Milla. He wonders if it had something to do with the area around them-- regardless, he was both amazed and surprised.
Maybe Velvet could really make friends-- if friends were classified as people who could have a conversation around her without having their heads torn from their bodies.
“How would you even know it’d work? The lady looks like she can kill if you cross the line with her.” Milla said, eyes still shining with disbelief. Milla had to accept it; when Elle put her mind to it, she’d get it done-- something that slightly scared her to think about going forward. Laphicet was the one to respond to Milla, pouting slighty.
“I promise, she’s not a bad person! Velvet’s just… rough around the edges!” Milla has half a mind to fight back, but with the puppy dog look that he pulls off, she doesn’t find the heart to do so. With a resigned look on her face, she spoke. “If you say so.” Milla has a feeling she’ll never be able to resist the puppy dog look.
Milla looked over to the Lord of Calamity and the Lord of Spirits; they were speaking as if they were long time friends at this point; she couldn’t help but wonder if she would be able to talk to people like that one day. With a small smile, the alternate decided to leave the two women be. It just might be possible.
“Alright Elle, back to shopping. Velvet might not appreciate you making her wait too, boy.” Laphicet jumped at those words, knowing that Milla was right. “Right! I’m sorry, Elle, but I have to get going!” he said, knowing that Velvet wasn’t the one to have patience. As the boy left, Milla was left with a waving Elle and a bit more understanding on how to approach others.
