Had planned on digitizing my Drek'ar sketch from late 2024 for quite a while now, but never got around to it until today. Also did some fixes here and there when I was doing the lineart.

As someone who has thought about Team Maelstrom extensively, and is the number ONE Drek'ar/Atlas man (I've written the only fic on ao3), I have some headcanons to share >:] mostly Atlas and Drek 0_o

First; Drek'ar and his species
Kids/children are extremely important in their culture, and parenting is done by the entire squadron/neighbourhood. Drek'ar treats Luna with immense respect in game and I personally just find it very adorable!!! Shout out the artist in the zine who drew him with a young fan. I squealed.
Drek'ar comes specifically from the jungle-like areas of his planet (poison, camouflage) but there is also a significant desert Drek population as well
Sexuality is not an issue in his culture bc adoption is considered a sacred community duty, so gay couples are perfectly suited. (I imagine as a warring race it happens a lot!)
Because of this and peoples reaction to Drek'ar, he had a very negative response to humans at first. Why did no one help Atlas raise Luna? Why did his community, extended family etc not show up? It still frustrates him.
Much of the imperialist propaganda pushed by the government is focused on repressing critical thought, fun and bonding. Families and communities are strong, but hardly allowed to be emotionally vulnerable. Everything is done for the benefit to the spector of the Perfect Younglings.
Their diet includes mainly meat, sustained with additions of bugs, especially snails and worms.
Similar to monitor lizards or Komodos he swallows his meat whole. (But has learnt how to chew. Vaguely. He finds it upsets humans if he doesn't.)
Also similar to Komodos they have slightly venomous saliva, although humans are semi-resistant (don't ask Atlas how they found this out)
Atlas (and Atlas/Drek'ar) headcanons:
Atlas is a vegetarian.
He's a huge music buff secretly, and a big fan of Octavia. Likes all genres but favs r stuff like Drum and Base, Rap, Soul and general Video game OSTs from his youth.
He used to be a bigger gamer when he was young, but nowadays only plays with Luna or Drek.
Finds gardening relaxing because of it reminds him of his mother, and her love for nature. He cares deeply about how his science and research effects the environment. Unlike someone else.
Drek'ar loves to lounge with him when he gardens bc his greenhouse is always nice and warmmm
Atlas made a small bubble greenhouse to the side that is a tiny jungle, just for Drek'ar to bask in.
Sees Rune as a friend, but is also guilty of treating him a little like an experiment
Doesn't spend as much time with Luna as he should, but believes once their parents are back they can make up for lost time. He's trying his best Luna...
Super direct with communication, often says what he means and doesn't really care what the other person thinks.
He likes to watch documentaries with Rune :] especially nature ones
Rune hcs:
Definitely chronic stray cat adopter/feeder
Doesn't spend much time with Luna despite sharing a house. (This is bc Juno is always around Luna)
Has issues with self esteem, he's the guy who says sorry everytime you breathe in his direction
He likes to draw, and leans towards more abstract styles. No one else can really grasp what they mean
Avoids X's house parties like the plauge (generally Maelstrom aren't as social as they should be...they're too busy being emo)
If he hadn't been a Corestrike player, he woukd have studied history. Atlas is trying to convince him to give it a shot anyway, Obsucra be damned!
I know oddy will probably never give us the lore build for Drek'ar but I would literally sell my left kidney to see the internal lore doc!!!
