Happy wine Wednesday again! In Southern California there is a smaller wine region, Temecula. It’s also a big resort destination and they have some awesome places to stay at. A rather newer wine region, the first grapes were planted in 1969 and wine production began in 1971. The first Temecula winery opened in 1974 and the area has grown ever since. Temecula has over 30 wineries. If you are in the Los Angeles area or the San Diego area make sure to visit Temecula CA, especially if you are a wine lover. We used to live near Pasadena CA and we would visit Temecula at least once a month. While we lived there the wine just seemed to get better and better. Fast forward to this visit, last November, 5 years later and I can tell you the competition to produce great wine in Temecula is fierce. In these days when travel is difficult we are dreaming of Temecula CA. This photo was taken last November when we did a 6 week road trip through California in search of wine. Specifically this was taken at Palumbo Family Vineyards & Winery. Palumbo is a family-owned and operated artisanal winery. They have 13 acres of grapes and produce 2500 cases per year. Nicholas Palumbo, the winemaker, believes in creating wine only from what the family grows. He believes there are only two ingredients in making fine wines, the grapes and the barrels it ages in. Palumbo specializing in full-bodied reds. Palumbo has an indoor tasting bar and an outdoor patio. The vibe is friendly and casual. Keith and I love a full bodied red! In this day and age using something old to make something new is the greatest form of art. We just loved this wine barrel art sponsored by the Temecula Olive Oil Company we found in Temecula, CA last November. Visit Temecula began the Temecula Valley Barrel Art Trail two years ago. Now, local artists pair with wineries, hotels, and shops in Temecula, CA to create custom art on wine barrels that are no longer being used to make wine. Searching for the wine barrel art is another reason to visit Temecula. Plus Temecula is just an hour north of San Diego and 90 minutes south of Los Angeles. It’s dawn in the Temecula Valley and we are about to lift off in our ballon from Vindemia Winery. This was last November. Hot air ballooning is one of the most majestic ways to see the Temecula vineyards. We took a peaceful ride over the rolling hills of the Temecula Valley. A balloon ride is always a magical experience. A visit to Temecula would not be complete without taking a dawn hot air balloon ride. Temecula is all about wine, but did you also know they are well known for hot air balloons too? We recommend California Dreamin' Balloon Adventures for the opportunity to get an aerial view of Temecula in one of the Vindemia balloons. We took the sunrise flight last November. We took off from the Vindemia Vineyards and soared to magnificent panoramic heights, enjoying a spectacular morning above Temecula Valley. After the trip, a European style breakfast awaited us in their rose garden, featuring gourmet coffee, champagne mimosas, fresh strawberries, cheeses, locally baked breads. This is a must do adventure while visiting Temecula.
