@drolliic wrote . . . "Maybe in another life, we can try and get us right." it's easier to say things under the cover of the night. Honestly, Akira is still surprised that Akechi agreed to spending the night over, making him scramble to get another blanket in preparation of sleeping on the old couch so the other can have the bed.
Trying to sneak a peek at his temporary roommate is useless when he can't see anything without his glasses, but he tries regardless. He opens his mouth to say something else or maybe just laugh, humourless and in disbelief, but nothing comes out. They've both seen what another life could have looked like and refused to accept it. And yet, he can't help, but wonder if they could have had it if only things were different.
what am i even doing? a question that came through akechi's mind when he agreed to stay over, using the excuse that his apartment was too far away to travel to this late at night. he knew himself better than that though, and he was sure akira knew too. things had been weird between them ever since akechi had wandered back into the thief's life after so long, and he wasn't exactly sure how to mend it.
and so, for a moment, he lets akira's comment hang in the balance. wondering on what could have been, if they had met sooner. if akira was dumb enough to accept maruki's deal... and then he banishes the thought as soon as it arrives.
"there isn't another life." akechi remarks, his usual curt tone is absent, he hesitates to say the next part, but... things are easier to say under cover of night, "we could still try in this one."
it's not an ask for forgiveness or want for redemption. he knows that he doesn't deserve them anyway. it's... his acknowledgment of things he usually would leave unsaid. a hope that maybe he didn't wreck every opportunity he had in his anger.
