Candy Girls Drop Your Weapon - 2018
Warped synths, distortion, uneven drums and a constant off time beeping are the introduction to the organised chaos that is coming. Loud heavy drums and synths drowning in bludgeoning guitars as a voice in the distance repeats girls, girls over and over again. Heavier pounding drums and guitars so raw and heavy you it feels more like a physical assault than music and a new voice starts repeating. Fight, fight, fight. A sudden stillness and the uneven beeps are back and a child's voice repeats give me some candy now.
Candy Girls is a silly little raucous romp through heavy synth rock with no purpose beyond going, damn this heavy and layering on that brutality in ever increasing waves intensity. This is the song needed when the mind is just overloaded from stimulation and needs to switch off entirely. Just give me that visceral noise assault that calms me to my very core. Put a silly little bridge in there with a child demanding to give me some candy now and you got me hooked on what could very well be the heaviest and silliest track of the year.
Decompression comes in many shapes and forms and this is it for me. When life is chaotic I need music that reflects that and mirrors that internal chaos to feel some sentiment of tranquility. That it is silly and fun just makes that organised chaos even more gratifying to revel in.
drop your weapon || lyla + sandara
Lyla Sloan wasn't the first person to find herself falling into the family business, and she knew she wouldn't be the last. Ever since she was young, she knew that one day she would be just like her parents, handling weapons, kicking ass, and bringing in criminals for a bounty. It was what the Sloan family did best, and Lyla was determined not to disappoint them. Even though she'd been a part of the family business for a while now, she still felt as though she needed to prove herself. She could play in the big leagues, and she was going to do it by bringing in a criminal that no one could get. With her best friend's help, of course.
5am seemed to be too early for anyone to be awake, especially when they hadn't rolled into bed until after midnight, but that didn't matter to Lyla. Staying in a seedy, run down motel like this didn't exactly put her to sleep, even if she did know how to take care of herself. They were slowly working their way towards their mark, trapping him in a corner so he couldn't slip out their fingers like he could so many others. And while Lyla knew they were right on track, it didn't keep her from pacing up and down the room, continuously glancing at the dimly lit alarm clock on the table beside the bed.
Now seemed as good a time as any to be up.
"Come on, get up," Lyla called out to a still sleeping Dara, picking up the pillow on her side of the bed and hitting her softly in the face with it. "We need to get on the road or we're going to miss him. We're not going to be the ones that let him get away," she decided firmly, glancing down at her watch. It was still early, and chances were their mark hadn't left the seedy hotel yet, but Lyla wasn't about to take any chances. If he was getting ready to leave, the two of them would be right after him. As Dara rolled over in bed, mumbling something into her own pillow, Lyla sighed and picked up the pillow again, throwing it at her this time. "Get your ass out of bed before I drag you out."
