“I’m doubling my fee,” Gilbert grumbled, exhausted after a very long night. A party, an assassination, and then another party - a search party. As an “official member of the royal Guard”, Gilbert had to search for the elusive assassin for hours with his “colleagues”. Sadly, they had turned up no such man.
He was not actually planning to double his fee, but this was unnecessarily frustrating. He was used to completing a job, and then leaving. He didn’t need any of this other nonsense involved and playing pretend.
But nothing else could be done while the kingdom was on lockdown. So either the king would have to raise the borders once the numerous other royals demanded it, or the kingdom would descend into chaos. He supposed he could be patient for a while.
He was slouched very deep into a sofa in Feliciano’s private quarters, eyes closed and still wearing his “royal guard” uniform. The new heir-apparent had to be very closely guarded, of course, to prevent against any other attacks.
He was very tired, and it showed.
“I hope you’re ready to house me, or something, until this nonsense is resolved,” he said to the royal. “Because I don’t usually stick around afterwards and let myself get implicated for crimes. I hope that your uncle isn’t going to turn on you.”
