Otayuri prompt: Otabek is back home during the off season and Yuri is back in Russia and has been drinking with Victor and Yuuri. So he comes home and decides it’s a good idea to FaceTime Otabek because he’s drunk and wants to talk to his best friend and ends up telling him about his feelings 😊
About 1.1k!
Thank you for this prompt. As someone who is prone to give out far too much information when drinking, I know this feeling. I went with a sappy, soft drunk Yuri.
I hope you enjoy! Feel Free to prompt me some more if you enjoyed this fic!
Again only beta’d by me!
"That's enough, you should have Mila take you home" Georgi insisted as he reached for Yuri's glass of wine. Nearly eighteen, Yuri offered a physical complaint by pulling back quickly and downing the rest of the dark red liquid. "You'll regret that in the morning," Georgi scolded, Yuri simply glared and sat back in his chair.
Currently, at Old-Man and Piggy's place, Yuri was supposed to be celebrating something but all he could think about was the absence of Otabek.
His best friend had gone back to Kazakhstan just a day ago, leaving Yuri aching for something he couldn't name. Which was excuse enough for him to even bother with attending the party and drinking, not one, not two but fives glasses of expensive wine.
"I'm here to take you home, little kitten" Came Mila's voice as she threw Yuri's jacket over his lap.
"I'm not done," He protested weakly, lacking an insult. The energy he'd normally use to fire back had been spent in keeping his head up and eyes open.
"You are drunk and the party is over. The lovebirds are going to bed and I doubt you want to hear that," She told him, tugging at Yuri's wrist to hoist him up to shaky legs. Yuri followed without further complaint.
The cold Saint-Petersburg air was enough to shake away the grogginess that the alcohol provided, but it didn't take away the buzz. Sitting quietly in Mila's car he didn't bother to say or do anything aside from checking his phone at every sensation of a phantom vibration. Beka hadn't texted him beyond the 'I made it home' next that was customary when either of them traveled.
Outside his apartment, Mila offered to make sure he made it upstairs but Yuri felt brave enough to take the task on his own. It wasn't like he didn't know which room was his, he wasn't that drunk.
Fishing his keys out of his pocket he dropped them twice before successfully unlocking his door. Greeted by mewling, he barely managed to avoid stepping on his precious Potya. She insisted on being petted before Yuri even kicked off his shoes.
Falling onto his couch Yuri fumbled with his phone for a second, as Potya settled on his lower stomach, kneading this shirt prior to curling up. He unlocked his phone with ease despite his buzzed state. Out of boredom, he went through his pictures, the ones he posted on Instagram were nothing compared to the ones he saved on his phone. The current album named 'Beka' had been filling his phone to capacity with images of the two of them.
Beka wasn't really the type to take selfies but with Yuri he did. He'd hold still long enough for Yuri to take a million rapid-fire pictures before deleting most of them and insisting they do it again. Yuri claimed he wanted only the best on his Instagram, but that wasn't the case. Instagram was for boring, mostly promotional pictures, the ones he took with Beka were for his own personal collection. For days when missing his best friend felt like going without a limb.
Rotating to be on his side, Potya gave a meow of protest before finding herself a different, less mobile, place to sleep. He really shouldn't call Beka considering the time. It was nearing midnight which meant it was closer to 3am there. But the wine that settled in his stomach had provided him a little bit of courage. The worst that could happen would be Beka be annoyed and not answer or answer and tell Yuri to go to sleep.
"Yura? Are you okay?" Answered Otabek, his voice husky from sleep, eyes half closed on the small screen of Yuri's phone.
"I'm fine, can't sleep," Yuri flubbed the truth, holding the phone at the right angle to have just his face in view.
"Did you try sleeping?" Otabek asked, pushing himself to sit up, giving Yuri a fleeting glimpse of Beka's torso, tan skin, and hard muscles.
"No..I just got home," Yuri replied, looking away from the screen, pretending to be calling for Potya.
"Home from practice? Its almost midnight, what did you do. Did you piss off Coach Feltsmen?" Otabek asked, his questions going too fast for Yuri's alcohol addled brain to process at the once.
"No no no no no, Old man and Piggy had a party. I went and Mila just dropped me off," Yuri explained, sitting up a bit, using the arm of the couch for support.
"Oh, that's cool, I hope you had fu-"
"I didn't,"
"Why not?" Otabek questioned, concern heavy in his voice.
"I missed you,"
"You missed me?" His tone was closer to confusion. They had just spent two weeks of vacation time together. Otabek would agree he missed Yuri but he had already made plans to visit again. Being away from Yuri was only temporary.
"Of course I missed you! You are like my left leg!" Yuri told him, a bit forceful then he intended. A flush formed in his cheeks and he felt the urge to drop his phone and pretend the battery had died.
"Left leg? What do you mean?" Otabek pressed, it was far too early for him to be on his game with translating Yuri's over the top and dramatic statements.
"You are like my leg, so when you are gone I'm without a leg," Yuri explained again, throwing his head back and covering his face with his arm. It warmed a hidden part of Otabek's heart when he realized what Yuri meant. It furthered his smile to see his best friend flustered by his admission.
"I miss you too," Otabek told him, his tone comforting after a moment of quiet.
"Really?"
"Of course, I missed you from the moment I let go of you at the airport," Otabek confessed, finding his own cheeks flush.
"Go back to bed Beka," Yuri told him, uncovering his eyes and offering him one of those secret smiles. The ones reserved for Potya and now Beka.
"Get to bed, I'll call you tomorrow after practice," Otabek told him but Yuri made no effort to end the call.
"Promise?" Yuri asked, his voice losing its earlier wine-induced courage. He was softer in his moment, a vulnerability only seen by Otabek.
"Pinky-promise," Otabek told him, offering up his free hand the pinky toward the camera. Yuri copied him with a slight chuckle. They ended the call mutually but Yuri made no effort to go to his room. His bed was far too lonely, lacking the weight of a certain best friend. Instead, he curled up on the couch and slept with his phone tight in his hand. A picture of the two of them now his lock screen, a soft gentle reminder that missing him was worth it.
