I like to think that some days, when Hua Cheng wakes up, still entwined with Xie Lian, that he just lies there still in disbelief that his god is in arms.

Xie Lian awoke slowly, the sun barely peaking in through the dark curtains. A cold arm was draped around his waist, a head of dark hair snuggled close on his chest. His fingers softly stroked that arm, and he turned his head to kiss the widows peak of the man the wrapped around him.

Hua Cheng kept his eyes shut tight, but couldn’t help the sigh and contented smile he made when he felt those soft lips on his forehead. Otherwise, he stayed still as a rock, unwilling to move.

However, Xie Lian felt the slight movement against his chest. “Oh, are you awake?” He asked in small, still creaky morning voice.

“No. Still asleep. I won’t be waking up for a while yet, I’m having such a good dream right now.” Hua Cheng mumbled against him, eyes still stubbornly shut tight.

“Hm I see, then I suppose I’ll just stay here a while.” A smile could be heard in Xie Lians voice. He continued to softly stroke his husbands arm, who was still clinging to his waist.

Mornings like this, it really felt like they were the only two that existed. A ghost king and his god.
