Danganronpa v3 Pre-FTE Dialog (Chapter 4 - Part 1)
Chapter 4, earlier than expected!
I forgot far too many of these when I first went through the game, but it’s all good now. Or at least, it should be. (Please let me know if anything here is weird and I’ll fix it as soon as I can.)

he was in the student council, it wouldn’t surprise me if he thought that he could protect angie and tenko, but he just wasn’t able to because basically nobody could anticipate there being a literal serial killer in the killing game

I’m incapable of getting over the fact that “you mad?” is literally one of kokichi’s voice clips
like there’s no way that that phrasing wasn’t an intentional reference to the meme and it’s perfect because he’s exactly the kind of character to quote rage comics
but it kind of makes me wonder what the equivalent line is in japanese
see, shuichi??? even maki can tell there’s something up with kaito and she’s like the edgiest tsundere in the series

I don’t know if it’s funnier that miu apparently thinks shuichi wants to get with her or that shuichi just isn’t connecting the dots when he knows full well what miu is like by this point

Here we are in the home stretch, everybody.
Honestly there are few enough characters now that I probably could shove the entire chapter all into one post and not have tumblr be a jerk, but for the sake of consistency I’m not going to do that.

this is a good point, actually, the flashback light for chapter 5 wasn’t discovered until after kokichi performed a hostile takeover of the killing game
part of me wonders if tsumugi was specifically waiting for him to make a move before she played her hand, only to have him pull the rug out from under her way harder than she was expecting

while kokichi is still alive, he can’t be talked to at all for probably obvious reasons
this dialog is the same for every free time slot of chapter 5 as far as I can tell, so I’m only posting it here once
but honestly I really wonder what level of sheer spite kokichi was at by the time he died, like, I know he says the killing game is meaningless unless you win, but I wonder what exactly his definition of winning really was
I actually have an entire theory that he may have intentionally set up his plan to fool monokuma so that it would fail but that’s a topic for a dedicated post

maki really should’ve just taken the nuclear route and locked kaito and shuichi in a closet until they made up tbh
like they’re in the middle of a killing game with a nutjob running around planning god knows what, time is of the essence, getting along here is more important than being awkward teenagers!

and because I don’t have a better place to put this:
for all of tsumugi’s boasting in chapter 6, going through these is seriously making me wonder if she’s as clued in to everything going on as she says that she is
I know she’s the ultimate cosplayer so she’s good at putting up an act, but there are just a lot of points where she seems genuinely taken off guard and/or confused by things going on in the game
not to mention the fact that monokuma is clearly a separate entity from her
and while she is The Mastermind, she’s not really in control in the way that junko was

it’s interesting how gonta’s mind automatically jumps to the idea of “is this for a school festival??? why else would there be a funeral for all of us???”
which is a reasonable conclusion given that his knowledge of culture like that is kind of limited
gonta is a lot smarter than people give him credit for tbh, he’s just still learning about a lot of things that seem common sense to others

this is why it irks me when people say kaede was killed just for the emotional development of shuichi (though that was an effect of her death), like
it’s obvious that she left an impact on the group as a whole if you look for it
and it’s interesting how kaito also seems to be thinking about maki here since he’s in her lab, but I’m gonna stop before I go on a tangent—

it might’ve worked on shuichi in chapter 1 because what he needed at the moment was to get out of his thoughts, but hitting people to get them to chill out usually isn’t a great idea
man, I know there are people who don’t like kaito’s behavior since he doesn’t really face any negative consequences for his not-so-great actions, but I have to wonder if him decking kokichi and not properly following up on it had more of an effect than is obvious
but that’s more-or-less purely speculation on my part so I’m just gonna move on

I’ve recently been rewatching sdr2 with a friend who’s never seen it before, and it’s interesting how in every game except v3, monokuma/junko presents “you could just live here peacefully/live forever in the simulation” as a viable alternative to the killing game, since not having the killing game happen would serve junko’s goals just as well
in v3, though, that isn’t an option—monokuma makes it very clear from the get-go that it’s murder he wants, and it will be murder that he gets—but outside the bad ending of 1, this is the only time any characters resolve to accept being stuck there for the rest of their lives in a meaningful (f not short-lived) way
