There’s a Killer on the Loose (Again)...

Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (12-16th November 2018)

This week saw wedding number six for Mercedes as she prepared to marry Russ for the second time. It’s safe to say that this wedding was doomed from the start. Not only is Mercedes on wedding number six, and experienced the deaths of every other man she’s been engaged to, both have cheated recently, and Russ’ cheating came back to haunt him this week when Goldie informed him that she was pregnant. Despite trying to keep the news from her family, Mercedes found out and followed Goldie to the hospital. When Mercedes made enquires about the Father, Goldie panicked and lied that it was Joel. Later, Goldie returned to the pub and told Russ that she’d had an abortion. Unfortunately, the tale end of the conversation was overheard by Myra...

The wedding soon arrived but the day was thrown into turmoil when Father Dan was unable to officiate the ceremony. Luckily, Cleo had a solution, and called on Joel to help, angering Mercedes, who still believed him to be the man who had got Goldie pregnant. Mercedes and Russ made it through the ceremony to become husband and wife, despite Mercy’s sly digs at Joel. Once they were married, she could hold back no more and confronted Joel over sleeping with Goldie. As chaos broke out around her, Myra suddenly remembered the conversation she’d overheard and realised that Russ was the man Goldie had slept with. Mercedes was understandably devastated whilst Russ desperately tried to explain himself. Mercedes wasn’t the only one baying for Russ’ blood, however, as Sylver was furious to learn how Mercedes had been treated and a fight broke out between the two men. They were interrupted by Jack and Breda, who sent Sylver away to cool off. However, whilst alone in the garage later, Russ was approached by an unknown assailant and hit over the head. Despite everything, Mercy was devastated to find her husband dead and quickly found herself the prime suspect...

Meanwhile, the Lovedays were delighted when Lisa returned to the village unexpectedly but she soon found herself caught up in the Donovan drama when Simone and Zack received a letter, threatening Lisa’s safety if Zack didn’t withdraw his statement about Liam killing Glenn. After trying and failing to keep Lisa in the flat, Simone took extreme measures and booked her daughter on a one way ticket back to Thailand. However, instead of jumping on the first plane out of Chester, Lisa headed to the prison and it soon became clear that she and Liam were in a relationship and she’d been the one to send the threatening message. With Zack’s statement still standing, Liam encouraged Lisa to go after Roxy, and so Lisa went to see her in a bid to find out what had been going on. Roxy told Lisa that Liam was a dangerous man and that she had only set him up to protect her family, unaware that Lisa was recording the confession on her phone. Lisa took the recording straight to the police, so we can assume that Roxy is now languishing on the wrong side of the prison bars. Farewell, Roxy, but it’s time for the next incompetent idiot to take over. 

With the whole case thrown open, Liam was released from prison, and soon turned his attentions back to the WAGS. Luring them one by one to The Loft, he tied them up and then played a game of Russian roulette with four cocktails, telling them that one of the drinks had been poisoned, but they wouldn’t know which one until it was too late. Staring death in the face, the WAGS began protesting their innocence, with Simone and Courtney claiming to have lost their bottles of poison and Grace saying that hers had been knocked over. Liam turned his attentions to Maxine and tried to force her to drink the cocktail, until Grace suddenly spoke up and said she’d been lying; it was her who had killed Glenn. Despite Grace only saying this to protect Maxine, Liam planned to shoot his sister, but was interrupted by Jesse, who was able to talk him down. With everyone untied and safe, the WAGS gathered round at Courtney’s, where they all began to turn on each other. However, they soon came to a shocking realisation when Simone pointed out that, if none of them had used their poison on Glenn, someone else must have killed him and got away with it...

The culprit was revealed quickly. Over at the pub, with Mercedes banged up, Sylver was left with the unpleasant task of telling Max and Bobby about Russ’ death. With Sylver clearly struggling, Breda stepped in to help and explained to the boys about heaven and hell. As Breda talked about bad people going to hell, we saw a series of flashbacks to the murders of Carl, Glenn and Russ, with Breda having been the one to bump them off. That’s right, nice Nana Breda’s a serial killer!

Finally, love was in the air over at the Osborne’s. With Charlie feeling slightly under the weather, Jack suggested that he take the day off school, and the youngster didn’t take much persuading. Jack called on Breda to help, asking if she could watch Charlie whilst he attended the dentist. However, when the dentist ‘cancelled’, Breda got ready to leave, but Jack asked her to stay and have lunch with him and Charlie. Charlie quickly worked out that Jack was using him to spend time with Breda and encouraged him to just ask her out. Meanwhile, Harley had a severe case of the green eyed monster as Peri continued to spend time with Tom and Steph. At Tom’s suggestion, Peri invited Harley along to hang out with her, Tom and Steph and Tom later confessed to Jack that he was developing a crush on Harley...

5 Things We Learned This Week:

1. Contraception is not a thing in the Hollyoaks universe. So, Goldie has become the latest ‘Oaks resident to find herself expecting after a one night stand. Why has no one in this village heard of condoms?!

2. Love (and the aroma of terrible aftershave) is in the air. It’s nice to see Jack finally find some happiness following Frankie’s death. Unfortunately, the woman he’s fallen for is a serial killer. The poor man would have been safer sticking with conniving Darcy!

3. If someone seems too good to be true, they probably are. Who would have suspected nanny Breda of being a serial killer? Personally, I think Hollyoaks have overdone the whole serial killer thing, but if Breda can kill Liam, I will be totally on board with this story. 

4. She may only be three years old, but little Steph’s already a right rebel. She kept poor Tom up until 9pm last week!

5. Left Hollyoaks? Thinking of returning? Don’t. There’s a high chance that you’ll be killed off pretty soon afterwards.

Glenn’s a Goner...

Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (15th-19th October 2018)

It’s time to hang out the bunting and get the party poppers out as Glenn Donovan is no more! After several months of being thoroughly unpleasant to all who have had the misfortune of encountering him, Glenn was finally bumped off this week. As the week began, Grace and her fellow wags were planning on tricking Jay Johnson into doing their dirty work for them, and with Roxy finally onside, it looked like the plan might just work. However, Jay spotted Grace and Roxy in cahoots and quickly worked out what was going on. Needless to say, Jay was furious and planned to do away with Grace, but he had a change of heart when he learned of the months of torment Glenn had put Grace through and agreed to help her. Heading back to The Loft, Grace, the wags and Roxy celebrated Glenn’s demise over a glass of champaign, but it soon transpired that their celebrations may have been a tad premature...

After completing their job successfully, Jay pulled out a gun and prepared to shoot. Unfortunately, he himself was gunned down by Liam, who chose just that moment to return to the village to greet his Father. However, there was no time for loving Father-Son reunions. Realising that Grace had set him up, Glenn was out for blood, and stormed over to The Loft to confront her. On this occasion, the presence of the other WAGS meant that Glenn was prevented from killing Grace but he promised them all that he would be coming for them. With Glenn on the warpath, the wags knew they had to get rid of him, and fast. Luckily, Kim and Simone had a plan...

Inspired by Agatha Christie (who does not work in Price Slice, despite Maxine’s insistence), Simone suggested that they poison Glenn, with each of them adding a little something to his drink, that way, no one person would be responsible. Kim was able to get hold of some drugs from the hospital and divided it up into 5 vials. As everyone gathered at The Dog for Glenn’s birthday party, the wags saw their chance to strike when Glenn took to the mic to make a speech. One by one, the wags approached Glenn’s unattended beer, however, we saw that only some of the group actually emptied their vials. The fact that some wimped out didn’t matter, though, and Glenn soon collapsed outside the pub...

No one bothered to attempt CPR and Glenn was quickly carried away in a body bag. However, as Kim went to dispose of the vials, she realised that one was missing. The worst was yet to come as it was discovered by Liam, who took it straight to the police. Having seen Kim acting strangely at the party, Liam came to the conclusion that she had killed his Dad, and gave her name to the cops. Kim was soon taken in for questioning, where Roxy informed her that finger prints had been found on the vial Liam had brought in, however, they were unable to establish who they belonged to. After Roxy pointed out that Liam would not let the accusation drop, Kim decided to take the blame, asking Roxy to doctor the results and tell Liam that the finger prints belonged to her. Keen to help, Roxy agreed, and offered not to put a warrant out for Kim’s arrest until she had had enough time to flee the country. After an emotional goodbye to Farrah, Kim headed to the bus stop, where who should be sitting there, but Rick Astley! Farewell, Kim!

Meanwhile, there was more drama for the Hutchinson’s as Dee Dee’s condition continued to deteriorate. With the little girl having frequent seizures, Tony and Diane were told that Dee Dee needed to be put into a coma in an attempt to stop them. 24 hours later, the doctors were preparing to bring Dee Dee round, but Diane and Tegan couldn’t stop arguing over what was best for her, leading to Tony locking them in an office until they could resolve their differences. The two women soon made up, but there was more bad news when the doctor informed them that Dee Dee had developed an infection and her weakened immune system meant she was struggling to fight it off. Tegan, Tony and Diane dissolved into tears as they were told that Dee Dee may not make it through the night...

Elsewhere, Donna-Marie was back in the village and once again demanding money. It didn’t take long for her to spot James and she briefly considered telling him the truth about Romeo. Meanwhile, Romeo found a way to resolve his Mum’s money worries when he decided to blackmail Harry over his affair with James. Harry confided in James about the demanding letters and James soon worked out that Romeo was responsible. However, with Harry having called their affair off, not wanting to cancel his wedding whilst his family were going through hell with Dee Dee, James offered Romeo a deal - he would give him the money he needed if Romeo helped him expose the affair at Ste and Harry’s wedding...

In other news this week, Joel, feeling rejected by Cleo, slept with Goldie but instantly regretted it and left the village. Finally, Jack found himself on baby sitting duty again but little Steph proved too much for him and he asked for Breda’s help. Breda was happy to give her assistance, but this annoyed Leela, who found the trio enjoying lunch together at The Bean. Having told Leela that she was too busy to mind Daniel for the day, Breda had to come up with an excuse fast. Luckily, Jack did the work for her, telling Leela that they were on a date! Leela quickly worked out that they were having her on, but she enjoyed watching them squirm, so invited Jack round the following day. After a rather awkward coffee, Leela admitted that she’d been having them on, and told Breda that she didn’t mind her working for the Osborne’s too. 

5 Things We Learned This Week:

1. If you want someone dead, just do it yourself. I’ve loved watching the wags plot Glenn’s demise, but Glenn himself is an absolute tool and we could have been spared weeks of him being despicable if only Grace had have killed him like she wanted to originally. 

2. CPR is not important in the Hollyoaks universe. After Glenn collapsed and stopped breathing, Liam was very quick off the mark to declare him dead. Not one person tried to help. Not that I’m complaining. I’ve wanted Glenn gone for ages!

3. It’s amazing who you can meet at a bus stop in rural Cheshire. Loving Rick Astley’s little cameo in Kim’s final scene! 

4. Now that Liam’s gone all gangster, he could do with hitting the gym. He couldn’t even bang Misbah’s back door in (*snigger*) as he attempted to look for Kim. 

5. It’s easy to forget you have kids sometimes. We’re in October now and the year’s nearly over, but this week saw little Steph Cunningham make her first appearance of the year. Where’s she been hiding all this time? Off spending Tom’s millions somewhere?

Break ins, Bonding and Brienna...

Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (1st-5th October 2018)

Is it Mac Nightingale or Little Britain’s Andy Pipkin? It was hard to tell this week as Mac continued to feign disability. Having returned to the village with girlfriend, Asha, last week, Hunter headed to Cindy’s to have it out with the villain, only to find himself accused of assault when Mac, hearing Alfie approaching, suddenly threw himself out of his wheelchair and claimed Hunter had pushed him. Alfie took the whole situation surprisingly well and after Hunter had left, filled Mac in on Hunter’s addiction to anxiety meds. Sensing he’d found another way to be despicable, Mac ordered some pills from the internet and forced them on to Hunter. Later, after a chat with Asha, Hunter agreed to try and put Mac behind him, but he was soon put right back to square one when he discovered that someone had defaced Neeta’s memorial...

Back at the McQueen’s, Hunter suffered a panic attack and secretly took some of the tablets. Later, Hunter bumped into Mac in the village and accused him of vandalising Neeta’s memorial. Somehow, without anyone noticing, Hunter dragged Mac from his wheelchair and up onto the archway, threatening to throw him to his death if he didn’t confess. Prince’s arrival on the scene stopped Hunter from committing murder but that wasn’t the end of the matter as Roxy later turned up at the McQueen’s to arrest Hunter. However, as Roxy’s got far bigger fish to fry, she soon abandoned the arrest when she received news that new evidence had been found regarding Carl Costello’s murder. Wanting to put the past behind him, Hunter decided to leave the village with Asha and the pair headed off for a new life in Brighton. 

Meanwhile, over at The Dog, Russ’ jealousy continued to get the better of him as Mercedes and Sylver spent time together. Mercedes was playing the proud Mum this week as she taught Bobby to ride his bike. However, she was later sent into a panic when she couldn’t find the youngster. Seconds away from phoning the police, Mercedes was relieved when she found Bobby at the garage with Sylver and she raged at him for taking her son. Back at The Dog, Mercedes felt bad for shouting at Sylver and told him that her experience of losing her son, Gabriel, had made her protective of Bobby (so protective that she had nothing to do with him for years!). The pair made up and shared a hug, but were spotted by an angry Russ...

As if facing the wrath of Mercedes wasn’t enough trauma for Sylver, he soon found himself with a lot of explaining to do when he was arrested on suspicion of murdering Carl. At the station, Roxy informed him that his DNA had been found on Carl’s body and he would almost certainly face prison if the case went to court. Sylver admitted that he’d argued with Carl on the day of his death but still maintained that he hadn’t killed him. Sylver was released on bail whilst investigations continued but Mercedes was alarmed when she caught him attempting to burn his trainers. After Mercedes confronted him, Sylver admitted that he’d moved Carl’s body as he’d assumed she was responsible for his death. Although horrified that Sylver would think she could ever do such a thing, Mercedes was touched by his declarations of love and leaned in for a kiss. However, the pair were stopped in their tracks by a sudden noise. Someone had seen them...

Elsewhere, Romeo was back in the village and quickly picked up where he left off by trying to lure Prince into another money making scheme. After having a run in with Ste at the Lunch Box, Romeo came up with the idea to steal Ste’s menu, recreate his sandwiches and undercut his prices. Ste soon got wind of what was happening and turned up with James in tow. James’ words forced the lads to shut up shop, leaving Romeo furious and he later broke into James’ house and trashed the place. However, he was interrupted by a half naked Harry, who had arrived to surprise James. As Harry attempted to give chase, he fell and sprained his ankle, leaving him with lots of explaining to do when Marnie returned home! Realising what had been going on, Marnie told Harry that he would have to chose between James and Ste...

Knowing that it was James he wanted to be with, Harry tried to give himself more time to break the news to Ste by attempting to postpone the wedding. With Dee Dee being so ill, it seemed he had the perfect reason, however, Tony stopped him in his tracks by telling Harry that he and Diane were really looking forward to it. Feeling like he couldn’t ruin his family’s only chance of happiness, Harry told James that it was Ste he needed to be with. Manwhile, Romeo found himself with more to worry about when his Mother, Donna-Marie arrived in the village and informed him that they were facing eviction. 

Finally, there was gossip, make overs and sisterly bonding as Liberty moved in with Sienna. Liberty was left heartbroken after Brody rejected her and Brody himself wasn’t doing any better as he used Damon’s ID to visit Buster in prison. Struggling to cope with everything, Damon slept with prostitue, Donna-Marie. The following day, Donna-Marie arrived in the village, claiming that Brody had forgotten to pay her. Sienna was only too happy to take Donna-Marie to Brody and humiliated him in the pub when she told everyone what he’d been up to. Brody ran off and Sienna felt terrible when Damon filled her on Brody’s past. Sienna soon apologised to Brody and admitted that she knew just what he’d been through as she opened up about the abuse she’d suffered. As the pair grew closer, they shared a kiss, just as Liberty returned home!

5 Things We Learned This Week:

1. The Hollyoaks police force are really struggling at the moment. In fact, they have so few officers that they will release you, mid arrest, when they receive new information for a different crime. 

2. On the other hand, Dee Valley Hospital isn’t struggling at all. In fact, they have enough resources to not only give someone with a sprained ankle a bed, but his own private room! Fantastic!

3. 6 year old Bobby is really into maths and equations. Are we sure he’s the son of Mercedes and Riley, who probably didn’t even have a brain cell between them? 

4. Roxy took great delight in telling Sylver that ‘forensics had got more sophisticated’ since he last did time. So what’s her and her co-worker’s excuse for arresting the wrong people 99% of the time?

5. James has a table in his flat filled with framed photos of himself. Of course, Marnie could have put them there, but it’s far more fun to believe that James himself is responsible.

Let’s Go Round Again...

Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (5th-9th November 2018)

It’s funny how opinions can change so quickly. When the ‘Women Against Glenn’, or the ‘WAGS’ as they’ve come to be known, first teamed up, I really enjoyed their scenes. I was fed up of Glenn and his gang, but I loved watching all of the women who he’d wronged team up to take revenge on him. After many failed attempts, they were finally successful but still the story goes on, only now they’ve replaced Glenn with Liam, who is an even worse character than his Father (how is that even possible?!) This week saw Maxine sent into a panic as Liam continued to demand information on Kim’s whereabouts and when Maxine refused to comply, he threatened Minnie. However, Maxine soon realised that there was a way to save her own skin; give Liam the names of the other WAGS and leave herself out of it. After all, as she would later confess to the rest of the group, she hadn’t actually used her vial of poison, and therefore, was not responsible at all...

Needing a way to keep Maxine quiet, Grace arranged a video call with Kim and recorded her naming Maxine as an accomplice. It seemed to do the trick and Maxine agreed to keep quiet. Although Liam was infuriated that Maxine was refusing to play ball, one of his contacts came good, and informed him that the forensics in his Dad’s murder had been wrong, and the finger prints on the vial did not belong to Kim. Still believing the WAGS to be responsible, Liam turned his attentions to Courtney and used baby Iona to get information from her. In a bizarre turn of events, social services handed over care of Iona to Liam, and Liam told Courtney that he would sign the baby over to her if she told him who had murdered his Father. Courtney gave the situation serious consideration and eventually gave Liam Simone’s name, reasoning that she was the only one of the group that did not have a young child. Knowing the danger she’d put Simone in, Courtney went straight to Roxy...

At The Dog, Simone was taking part in a press conference, hoping to save her political career following a sex tape of her and Glenn being leaked to the press, completely oblivious to the danger she was in. As the conference wrapped up, Liam approached Simone and dragged her to the car park before bundling her into his car. Just then, Roxy and Courtney arrived on the scene and Liam was arrested for kidnap. Not only that, but Roxy planted a vial in the boot of Liam’s car, and he was soon in the firing line for Glenn’s murder. However, the following day, Roxy visited the WAGS and informed them that they sadly did not have enough evidence to charge Liam with Glenn’s murder and he would likely be released that night. It was Zack who would come up with a solution when he offered to act as a witness and lie to the police about seeing Liam poison Glenn. Simone was completely against the idea but when Roxy pointed out that it was their best hope, she reluctantly agreed. It seemed to work, and Liam was charged with murder...

Meanwhile, Darren found himself in a right old mess when he shared a kiss with Nancy and then returned home to the news that Mandy was pregnant! As Darren began to process this bombshell, Nancy insisted that he had to be honest with Mandy about their kiss, and told him that if he didn’t tell her, she would. However, Darren soon found a way to discredit Nancy when he discovered that she’d faked last week’s MS attack and so Mandy refused to believe Nancy’s claims when she stuck to her word and told her about the kiss. A bitter argument broke out between the trio, resulting in Darren accidentally pushing Nancy to the ground. Although Darren was immediately apologetic, Nancy reacted by taking out an injunction against him, banning him from coming anywhere near her and the boys.  

Desperate to spend some time with the kids, Darren took them out of school without Nancy’s knowledge. Whilst Oscar was pleased to see Darren, the same couldn’t be said for Charlie, who was furious with him for pushing Nancy. Charlie got particularly angry when Darren pointed out that Nancy wasn’t entirely blameless, and told Darren that his cheating was the cause of the whole mess in the first place. When Nancy arrived to collect the kids, another argument broke out between the pair and Darren announced that he planned to fight Nancy for custody! Good luck with that one, Darren! 

Elsewhere, Sinead was well and truly settling back into life in Hollyoaks but Tony was growing tired of her using all the hot water, making comments about his pores and having to wade through her underwear to get to the kitchen. With Dee Dee about to be discharged from hospital, Tony told Diane that something would have to change. As Diane gently asked Sinead how long she was planning on staying, Ste was pushing her for information on Hannah’s whereabouts and Sinead realised she couldn’t carry on lying. Announcing that Hannah would be coming home that day, Sinead snuck off before anyone could offer to come with her and badgered Sami into giving her a lift. Poor Sami had no idea what he was getting himself into and he became even more worried when it became clear that Sinead had snatched her daughter. Back in the village, Ste was delighted to see Hannah again but Sinead’s life away from Hollyoaks soon caught up with her, when her husband, Laurie, arrived and demanded to know why she had taken Hannah. However, it seems that Sinead’s not the only one who’s been keeping secrets, as Sinead confronted Laurie over an affair he’d supposedly had and Laurie was later seen asking Sami for legal advice over an accusation made against him...

In other news this week, Louis’ two worlds almost collided when Martine sent him flowers addressed to her ‘yogi bear’. Leela found the flowers on the doorstep and assumed they were condolences for Tegan, whilst Louis was able to rip up the card before it was seen. Harley’s poor attendance caught up with her when Sally informed her that she was failing the year and finally, Peri was delighted when Tom allowed her to spend some time with Steph. 

Star of the Week:

I loved seeing Charlie call Darren out on his wrongdoings this week. He’s absolutely right. Nancy may not have behaved perfectly these last few weeks, but it’s Darren’s cheating that created the mess in the first place. Charlie Behan, who plays Charlie, is a great little actor and I hope Hollyoaks give him more to do in the future. 

5 Things We Learned This Week:

1. Social services will hand over a child to anyone these days. Iona is nearly a year old and Liam has had no involvement in her life so far. The charges against Courtney have now been dropped, so why have social services decided that the best place for Iona is with Liam? Is he even on her birth certificate?

2.  Sinead wants to become a nurse. Even though it’s child nursing she wants to specialise in, it will surely only be a matter of time before she’s treating everyone, young and old. 

3. Where does a recovering alcoholic hold a press conference? In a pub, of course! I do like a bit of alcohol related irony. Like former Hollyoaks resident Mel Burton finally getting her alcoholism under control only to die in the pub during a fire. 

4. Hollyoaks like to get their money’s worth out a script. You can just imagine the conversations at Lime Pictures as this weeks scripts were written; “Just replace Glenn with Liam and hope that the audience don’t notice they saw these scenes just a month ago”. 

5. Tom’s got a very short memory. “Peri’s allowed to be a teenager but I’m not allowed”, he told Breda as he pointed out that he was the one who had been there for Steph for the last three years. So it wasn’t you, Tom, who flew off to Ibiza for a holiday without your baby? It wasn’t you who swanned off to London for the whole Summer a couple of years back? It isn’t you who only just seems to have remembered his daughter’s existence?

Concern for Cleo, Rebel Rose and Love Rat Louis...

Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (8th-12th October 2018)

Mental health has always been a hot topic for Hollyoaks so it was only fitting that the show marked ‘World Mental Health Day’ this week with a special episode. The episode focussed on Cleo McQueen, who over the last few months has been battling with bulimia. 

As the week began, the McQueen’s were busy preparing for the double wedding of Mercedes and Russ and Cleo and Joel, seemingly obvious to the fact that Cleo was wincing at every bonkers idea Mercy and co were conjuring up. Knowing how much Cleo was dreading the idea of a double wedding, Joel suggested that they run off and marry in secret, much to Cleo’s delight. However, when Nana and Goldie announced plans for a trip to Skegness for Mercy and Cleo’s hen do, they were forced to come clean, leaving the family furious. They eventually made up and threw an impromptu party for Cleo at The Dog, but Cleo was soon sent into despair by a message from Pete...

The next episode focussed solely on Cleo, and her skewed perception about how her wedding day had gone. As Cleo spoke to Farrah, she painted a picture of a perfect day, explaining how she’d gone for a jog that morning, had some breakfast and then walked down the aisle to marry the love of her life. However, the reality of the day was far more sinister, as we discovered that Cleo had woken at 4 am to go for a lengthy run before purging after forcing down a bacon sandwich. As Cleo pinned herself into her now oversized wedding dress, we discovered the toll that her illness had taken on her body as her lips appeared cracked and her thinning hair fell out into her hands. At the church, Cleo struggled to stay standing and she collapsed in pain during her vows. Cleo tried to claim that she had simply fainted, however, Farrah was quick to correct her, telling her that she’d had a heart attack...

As Cleo recovered in hospital, Joel looked for someone to blame and Farrah initially found herself in the firing line when he realised that Cleo had not been attending her counselling appointments. However, he soon found a new target when he discovered that Pete had made contact with Cleo the day before the wedding. Deciding to visit Pete, Joel pretended to be a vicar to gain access to Pete’s cell and beat him up. However, back at the hospital, Cleo’s health took a turn for the worst and she was rushed into theatre in an attempt to stop some internal bleeding. Thankfully, Cleo pulled through, but Joel was left to answer some difficult questions when he arrived at the hospital. As Cleo demanded to know where Joel had been all day, he was forced to admit that he’d gone to see Pete. Noticing Joel’s bruised knuckles, Cleo quickly worked out what he’d done and berated Joel for being so stupid. Things intensified further when Cleo pointed out that her illness had only started thanks to Joel’s relationship with Sienna. Joel was left devastated when Cleo decided that she couldn’t recover whilst they were still together and insisted that their relationship was over. 

Meanwhile, little Rose became the latest Hollyoaks resident to turn to the dark side this week as her bad behaviour drove Tegan to distraction. It seems that ever since she found out that Tony and Diane are her biological parents, Rose has been playing up, and Tegan has felt both unwilling and unable to discipline her.  Things came to a head when Rose demanded the day off school so she could have a pamper session at the salon (she’s four!) and Tegan reluctantly agreed, despite misgivings from friends, Kim and Jesse. At the salon, Rose’s behaviour was no better and it was only the arrival of Diane that got the little girl to settle down and behave. As Tegan watched Diane bring Rose into line, she made the heartbreaking decision that Rose would be better off with Tony and Diane and later dropped her daughter off at the Hutchinson’s. Over the days that followed, Tegan spiralled out of control, getting drunk and staying out all night, and Leela eventually made her see that she had made the wrong decision by giving Rose up. However, when Tegan went to The Hutch to collect Rose, she was devastated when she heard her call Diane ‘Mummy’ and left the restaurant in tears. 

Elsewhere, Louis was back from Hong Kong and it became almost immediately clear that he was hiding something. We didn’t have to wait long to find out what, when a woman named Martine arrived on his doorstep. It seems that Louis has been a bit of a naughty boy whilst he was away. Not only has he cheated on Leela, but he’s secretly got married, to Simone’s sister, no less! To make matters even more complicated, Louis rekindled his romance with Simone this week and his two worlds soon collided when Martine arrived at Simone’s and revealed that she’d got married. Simone was horrified that her sister had married ‘a stranger she met on the plane’ whilst Louis desperately tried to get rid of his new wife. Just how is he going to wriggle out of this one?!

In other news this week, Russ paid Jack to do some snooping on Sylver, still convinced that Mercedes was cheating on him. Finally, Grace came up with a risky plan to get rid of Glenn, but needed Roxy on side. Unfortunately, Roxy wasn’t too impressed with Grace’s idea and refused to get involved, stating that the plan was just too dangerous. However, Roxy was moved by Simone, Courtney and Grace’s emotional pleas for help and agreed to get involved. The plan to bring down Glenn once and for all is on...

5 Things We Learned This Week:

1. Inset days are easy to forget. Rose was off school on Monday due to an inset day whilst Mercedes slipped off to meet Sylver, telling Russ that she was going to the school to drop some lunch money off to Bobby. But Bobby and Rose go the same school. Okay, Russ eventually worked out that Mercedes was lying, but given that he also has a son at that school, you’d think he would have worked it out much quicker than he did! 

2. It’s amazing what you can return from Hong Kong with. Tales of amazing new experiences, sexy underwear from duty free and a wife. But, does anyone else get the impression that a terrible fate may be about to befall Louis, what with him turning him into even more of a love rat by stringing 3 women along? The whole thing smacks of what they did with Rhys Ashworth a few years back; make a character thoroughly unlikeable so the audience don’t care when they’re killed off. 

3. Kids grow up so fast these days. Only 4 years old and little Rose is already demanding pampering sessions. Amazing how she managed to read the sign, too, and know exactly what was on offer!

4. Hollyoaks still thinks it’s 2008! What was Sally doing bringing Cleo some DVDs to watch in hospital? Surely a tablet would have been better? Would Cleo even have had the means to watch the DVDs?

5. Hollyoaks really don’t know what to do with Jack! Ever since Frankie died, he’s turned into an interfering busy body, poking his nose into everyone’s business. Give Jack a proper storyline please, Hollyoaks!

Under New Management!

Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (10th-14th September 2018)

It was all change in Hollyoaks this week as we said bon voyage to Ellie and Holly, caught our first glimpse at the new look Hollyoaks High, and welcomed some new, but very familiar, owners to The Dog...

As the week began, the WAGs continued their campaign against Glenn and decided to use the reopening of Hollyoaks High as an opportunity to put the wind up him. Offering to help out, the group took one of the banners and painted ‘Glenn killed his son’ on it, leaving Sally and the mayor mortified when it was unveiled! With Glenn spooked, Maxine reckoned that a confession was imminent, so she took him home and hit record on her phone. Unfortunately, whilst Glenn did confess, he cottoned on to what was happening and promptly deleted the file before telling Maxine he would have to kill her. Luckily for Maxine, Glenn’s aneurysm chose just the right moment to intervene and Glenn collapsed...

Rather than phone an ambulance, Maxine phoned her fellow WAGs for assistance, but they were about as much use as DS Cassidy investigating a murder. As Maxine contemplated leaving Glenn to die, the situation was taken out of her hands when Jesse arrived home. As Glenn was rushed to hospital, Maxine informed Misbah of Glenn’s living will, in which he stated he did not want surgery if there was any risk of brain damage. However, Misbah told Maxine and Jesse that they would need to find the document and fast, as without it, she would be forced to proceed with the treatment she thought best, which was surgery. Sadly for Maxine (and us) Jesse got to the will first and pocketed it before Maxine noticed. Glenn survived his op, and was soon baying for Maxine’s blood, asking Grace to kill her. Of course, Grace wasn’t really going to kill Maxine so they staged a set-up, which Glenn seemed to believe. Until they could figure out what to do next, Grace ordered Maxine to stay in the flat, something which she found very difficult indeed. In fact, it proved so difficult that she took herself off to see Mitzeee, who is currently in London. 

Meanwhile, Farrah was delighted when Kim informed her that she could leave hospital, however, her mood soon changed when Kim told her how terrified she was, as she feared bumping into Glenn. In an attempt to help, Farrah altered Kim’s blood pressure reading on her notes, and Misbah informed them that Kim would have to remain in hospital whilst they investigated the cause of her rising blood pressure. Unfortunately, Kim did not react in the way that Farrah was expecting, as she told her that being in hospital reminded her of being locked in the basement. Kim then faced another blow when she spotted Glenn being wheeled into the hospital and soon decided to channel her inner Lindsey by killing him, even donning a pair of blue gloves! Luckily, Farrah stopped Kim becoming Hollyoaks latest killer, but Kim was left shaken by what she had almost done and worried that she was turning into her sister. 

Elsewhere, the investigation into Carl Costello’s murder continued and Roxy refused to let go of her suspicions that Mercedes was involved, even cornering Russ in The Bean and asking if Mercedes had mentioned anything to him. Whilst Russ immediately jumped to his fiance’s defence, he was clearly shaken when Roxy pointed out just how many of Mercedes’ exes had met an unfortunate end! In fact, Russ was so concerned, that he decided to sleep with a rolling pin under his pillow, just in case Mercedes turned on him! As Mercedes and Russ prepared to meet with the vicar who would be marrying them, Russ decided he could hold it in no longer and confronted Mercedes over her past relationships. Mercedes was heartbroken by Russ’ words and pointed out that all of her exes, bar Paul Browning, had died in tragic circumstances completely out of her control. Russ felt terrible and apologised by buying The Dog and making Mercedes the landlady! Having the McQueen’s in the pub is a stroke of genius and I cannot wait to see what havoc they cause! 

Of course, the Nightingale’s couldn’t leave The Dog quietly and they had a busy week as they prepared to hand over the reins.  Yasmine was concerned when Alfie informed her that Mac had contacted him and she shared her worries with Marnie. When the pair realised that Alfie had gone to visit Mac, they decided to follow him, fully expecting to find that Alfie was imaging Mac’s recovery. So, imagine their horror when arrived to find that Mac had indeed defied the odds and recovered from locked in syndrome! The following day, Marnie and Alfie returned to the hospital, this time taking James with them, and Mother and eldest Son agreed not to share the news with Ellie, who was about to leave for her round the world trip. However, Alfie felt that his sister should be told, and blurted it out once back at home. 

As the family came to terms with the fact that Mac had recovered, Alfie was struggling with his mental health, and he convinced himself that his Father was in danger when he misinterpreted a conversation between him and Ellie. Convinced that Ellie was threatening Mac, Alfie phoned the police to report her for pushing Mac out the window before Christmas, and Roxy soon arrived to arrest her. The following day, Ellie was charged with attempted murder as James tried to help in any way he could. He was forced to turn to Sami for help, and Sami soon found a loophole in Ellie’s case when he discovered that Alfie had not been taking his medication. It was enough to discredit his evidence and Ellie was released. With her nightmare over, Ellie and Holly left Hollyoaks for their round the world trip. As Chez Cunningham lost one resident, it gained two more as Alfie announced he was moving in, complete with a wheelchair bound Mac! 

Finally, Hollyoaks High reopened and Breda dragged Peri and Harley along to the launch, hoping that the girls would make a good impression on Sally. However, Harley was horrified when she realised that Breda had put an application in on her behalf and raged at her in The Bean, just as Sally walked in. Needless to say, Sally declined to offer Harley a place, but soon reconsidered when she learned about the voluntary work Harley was doing with the homeless. Harley wasn’t the only new pupil at the school as Charlie, Leah and Ella joined year 7. How can this be? Charlie and Leah were babies 5 minutes ago!

5 Things We Learned This Week:

1. Mercedes and the black widow spider have lots in common. Little Bobby provided the comedy this week as he unintentionally compared his Mother to a spider, putting the wind up Russ in the process.

2.  Apparently Mercedes is single handedly keeping the local church in business, what with all the weddings she’s had there. I’d imagine the shockingly high death rate in the village also helps keep the vicar in work! 

3. I’ve often thought that Maxine’s not got the brain’s she was born with, but she sunk to new levels of stupidity this week when she failed to hide the phone she was recording Glenn’s confession on. What a prize plonker. 

4. Friends are easy to lose. Just last week, Ella was begging Mandy to let her attend Hollyoaks High with all her friends. This week, she’s saying about her new school; “I don’t know anyone there, really”. Make your mind up, child!

5. It’s nice to have a show that is able to laugh at itself. As Cindy said goodbye to Holly, she mentioned how much her face had changed over the years and pointed out that she would likely have trouble recognising her when she returned. A nice little nod to the fact that Holly has had three heads in the last 10 years!
