Random Ponderings
I really wish Hunter had stayed and Prince had left. I really am sick of his teenage macho angst. It really comes off badly.
Also, I really don’t like what’s happening with Ste. I like that they’re addressing the topic, but god it’s already annoying and we all know it’s going to get worse.

Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (1st-5th October 2018)
Is it Mac Nightingale or Little Britain’s Andy Pipkin? It was hard to tell this week as Mac continued to feign disability. Having returned to the village with girlfriend, Asha, last week, Hunter headed to Cindy’s to have it out with the villain, only to find himself accused of assault when Mac, hearing Alfie approaching, suddenly threw himself out of his wheelchair and claimed Hunter had pushed him. Alfie took the whole situation surprisingly well and after Hunter had left, filled Mac in on Hunter’s addiction to anxiety meds. Sensing he’d found another way to be despicable, Mac ordered some pills from the internet and forced them on to Hunter. Later, after a chat with Asha, Hunter agreed to try and put Mac behind him, but he was soon put right back to square one when he discovered that someone had defaced Neeta’s memorial...
Back at the McQueen’s, Hunter suffered a panic attack and secretly took some of the tablets. Later, Hunter bumped into Mac in the village and accused him of vandalising Neeta’s memorial. Somehow, without anyone noticing, Hunter dragged Mac from his wheelchair and up onto the archway, threatening to throw him to his death if he didn’t confess. Prince’s arrival on the scene stopped Hunter from committing murder but that wasn’t the end of the matter as Roxy later turned up at the McQueen’s to arrest Hunter. However, as Roxy’s got far bigger fish to fry, she soon abandoned the arrest when she received news that new evidence had been found regarding Carl Costello’s murder. Wanting to put the past behind him, Hunter decided to leave the village with Asha and the pair headed off for a new life in Brighton.
Meanwhile, over at The Dog, Russ’ jealousy continued to get the better of him as Mercedes and Sylver spent time together. Mercedes was playing the proud Mum this week as she taught Bobby to ride his bike. However, she was later sent into a panic when she couldn’t find the youngster. Seconds away from phoning the police, Mercedes was relieved when she found Bobby at the garage with Sylver and she raged at him for taking her son. Back at The Dog, Mercedes felt bad for shouting at Sylver and told him that her experience of losing her son, Gabriel, had made her protective of Bobby (so protective that she had nothing to do with him for years!). The pair made up and shared a hug, but were spotted by an angry Russ...
As if facing the wrath of Mercedes wasn’t enough trauma for Sylver, he soon found himself with a lot of explaining to do when he was arrested on suspicion of murdering Carl. At the station, Roxy informed him that his DNA had been found on Carl’s body and he would almost certainly face prison if the case went to court. Sylver admitted that he’d argued with Carl on the day of his death but still maintained that he hadn’t killed him. Sylver was released on bail whilst investigations continued but Mercedes was alarmed when she caught him attempting to burn his trainers. After Mercedes confronted him, Sylver admitted that he’d moved Carl’s body as he’d assumed she was responsible for his death. Although horrified that Sylver would think she could ever do such a thing, Mercedes was touched by his declarations of love and leaned in for a kiss. However, the pair were stopped in their tracks by a sudden noise. Someone had seen them...
Elsewhere, Romeo was back in the village and quickly picked up where he left off by trying to lure Prince into another money making scheme. After having a run in with Ste at the Lunch Box, Romeo came up with the idea to steal Ste’s menu, recreate his sandwiches and undercut his prices. Ste soon got wind of what was happening and turned up with James in tow. James’ words forced the lads to shut up shop, leaving Romeo furious and he later broke into James’ house and trashed the place. However, he was interrupted by a half naked Harry, who had arrived to surprise James. As Harry attempted to give chase, he fell and sprained his ankle, leaving him with lots of explaining to do when Marnie returned home! Realising what had been going on, Marnie told Harry that he would have to chose between James and Ste...
Knowing that it was James he wanted to be with, Harry tried to give himself more time to break the news to Ste by attempting to postpone the wedding. With Dee Dee being so ill, it seemed he had the perfect reason, however, Tony stopped him in his tracks by telling Harry that he and Diane were really looking forward to it. Feeling like he couldn’t ruin his family’s only chance of happiness, Harry told James that it was Ste he needed to be with. Manwhile, Romeo found himself with more to worry about when his Mother, Donna-Marie arrived in the village and informed him that they were facing eviction.
Finally, there was gossip, make overs and sisterly bonding as Liberty moved in with Sienna. Liberty was left heartbroken after Brody rejected her and Brody himself wasn’t doing any better as he used Damon’s ID to visit Buster in prison. Struggling to cope with everything, Damon slept with prostitue, Donna-Marie. The following day, Donna-Marie arrived in the village, claiming that Brody had forgotten to pay her. Sienna was only too happy to take Donna-Marie to Brody and humiliated him in the pub when she told everyone what he’d been up to. Brody ran off and Sienna felt terrible when Damon filled her on Brody’s past. Sienna soon apologised to Brody and admitted that she knew just what he’d been through as she opened up about the abuse she’d suffered. As the pair grew closer, they shared a kiss, just as Liberty returned home!
5 Things We Learned This Week:
1. The Hollyoaks police force are really struggling at the moment. In fact, they have so few officers that they will release you, mid arrest, when they receive new information for a different crime.
2. On the other hand, Dee Valley Hospital isn’t struggling at all. In fact, they have enough resources to not only give someone with a sprained ankle a bed, but his own private room! Fantastic!
3. 6 year old Bobby is really into maths and equations. Are we sure he’s the son of Mercedes and Riley, who probably didn’t even have a brain cell between them?
4. Roxy took great delight in telling Sylver that ‘forensics had got more sophisticated’ since he last did time. So what’s her and her co-worker’s excuse for arresting the wrong people 99% of the time?
5. James has a table in his flat filled with framed photos of himself. Of course, Marnie could have put them there, but it’s far more fun to believe that James himself is responsible.

71 Days in 23 Minutes...
Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (16th-20th April 2018).
Homelessness is an issue which has been tackled in soaps many times before, from Ian Beale in EastEnders to Dennis Tanner in Coronation Street. Even Hollyoaks has had a go at it before with George Smith and Phoebe McQueen. But none of those stories have been as well told as Peri’s story in this week’s Hollyoaks. As we know, Peri’s been missing for some time now and we’ve seen Leela’s anguish as she desperately tried to find her daughter. This week, Peri finally came home, and we discovered what life had thrown at her on the streets.
At the start of the week, Leela was feeling guilty, having neglected the search for Peri what with Ryan’s arrest and she was less than impressed when Louis suggested they take Daniel on holiday. As Leela headed back out searching, she was met by a young girl named Harley, who claimed to know where Peri was. Whilst Leela rolled out that red carpet for their visitor, Louis was sceptical about Harley’s motivations, and his concerns were seemingly confirmed when she started asking about the reward money. The following episode, Hollyoaks went back in time to the day that Peri ran away...
On her first night away from the village, Peri spent £40 on a hotel room but ended up being kicked out the following day when she couldn’t afford a second night. Faced with no other options, Peri headed to a homeless shelter but the terrified teen felt intimidated and only stayed for one night. It was whilst on the streets begging that she met Dean and Harley, who took her under their wing, nicknaming her ‘Princess’. During this special episode, which covered 71 days over the course of half an hour, the group found themselves struggling to stay alive as they begged for money and scavenged for any food they could find. After their tent was stollen, the trio headed to Chester to stay with a friend of Dean’s. It was here that they spotted the missing posters of Peri and Dean and Harley were angry that Peri had a family she could go back to. Despite Peri’s protests that she really couldn’t go back home, Dean and Harley walked away, leaving Peri to spend the night alone. The next day, the group were reunited but with Dean beginning to feel unwell, they knew they had to find shelter and fast...
On day 71, Peri and Harley awoke to find that Dean had died in his sleep. What followed were heartbreaking scenes as a devastated Peri tried desperately to seek the help of oblivious passers by. As people walked on by, Peri realised that Dean and Harley had been right; as a homeless person, she was invisible to the rest of society. The police eventually arrived and removed Dean’s body and Harley told Peri that they should go their separate ways. Peri was horrified when she realised that Harley was going to stay with a man who would offer her accommodation in exchange for sex and offered her a way out. Peri returned home to a delighted Leela, but told her she would only stay if Harley could move in with them...
Elsewhere, it was Luke’s birthday and Mandy and the kids threw a party for him at The Dog (a party for an alcoholic in a pub, how fitting!). Unfortunately, Scarlett was still around causing trouble and she managed to convince Ollie that she was the one Luke should be with. Wanting to see if Scarlett’s theory about Mandy not standing by Luke should he fall off the wagon was true, Ollie spiked Luke’s drink then told Mandy that his Dad was drinking again. Mandy was furious with Luke and stormed off, but Ollie’s plan soon backfired when Luke accused Scarlett of setting him up. Wanting to protect his mum, Ollie fessed up, leaving Luke furious that his son had jeopardised his recovery.
Meanwhile, Brody decided to leave Hollyoaks for New York, leaving Damon devastated. Spurred on by Buster and Marnie, Damon was able to stop Brody from leaving but it was clear that Brody wasn’t entirely happy about his decision. Later, an upset Brody confided in Scarlett that he had once put his trust in someone he shouldn’t have, just as the camera panned downstairs to the bar, where Ollie was confiding in Buster about his recent family troubles. We all know where this is going...
In other news this week, Milo was furious to find his newly arrived Brother Theo getting it on with Cindy. However, he was soon left with more to worry about when Theo demanded weekly payments in return for keeping his secret about the deaths of Tom’s parents. Myra discovered Cleo binging and she confessed she’d been doing it for months. Hunter was devastated to discover that Yasmine had been reading Neeta’s diary and finally, Esther was furious to discover that Jack had given Darcy Frankie’s necklace and vowed to put a stop to their wedding.
5 Things We Learnt This Week:
1. The Morgan’s living room/kitchen may be open plan, but each area is soundproofed. Ella was sent to eat her breakfast on the sofa mere feet away so that she wouldn’t hear the argument that Luke and Ollie were about to have.
2. Myra should be kept away from youtube tutorials at all costs. Poor Sally was left popping the aspirin after Myra attempted an Indian head massage on her. God knows what she’ll try her hand at next!
3. There is one benefit to your house burning down. You can do what Myra did and fiddle your insurance claim to get a waterbed. Sally can’t get enough of it, apparently.
4. Loveboat smoothies are powerful things. Spill a bit on a tablet, and it stops working.
5. Dirk’s been dabbling in Bitcoin. Unfortunately the ones he bought were chocolate though!

Rounding up a week in Hollyoaks (1st-5th January 2018)
Hollyoaks went all gangster again this week when Shane’s boss was revealed to be none other than Glenn. Since showing up again last week, Shane’s been desperate to get his hands on some money or risk being killed by his ‘boss’. However, things took a turn when Grace got involved, a decision which she would later come to regret when she was sent some photos of Curtis from an anonymous number and The Bean was trashed whilst she and Esther cowered under a table. The following day, Grace was left shaken when Shane’s stories of his boss’ behaviour left her believing that her Father, Fraser, was still alive. Knowing that Shane was planning to meet with his boss that afternoon, Grace went along in his place but was left shocked when Glenn turned up. Grace was horrified that Glenn had been lying to her and insisted that their relationship was over. However, the pull of all things gangster was clearly too much for her and she decided to give Glenn another chance.
There was outrage in the village this week when Diane discovered that the rebuilt Hollyoaks High would not include a library. Horrified that the pupils would be forced into the modern world of computers and e-books, Diane organised a fundraiser and roped in Myra and Leela to help bake cakes. Meanwhile, it was the anniversary of Lily’s Mum’s death and Prince organised a day out to help take her mind of it. Unfortunately, Shane’s reappearance left Prince preoccupied and Lily was left devastated when he failed to show up. However, Lily eventually forgave him and the pair announced to their friends that they were going to Vegas to get married, presumably with a little help from the bank of Tom. Whilst Yasmine and Hunter were delighted for the pair, the same couldn’t be said for Peri, who later told a shocked Prince that she was pregnant...
Although keen to keep her pregnancy a secret, Yasmine discovered the test in the bin at the Lomax’s and wrongly assumed that the Father was Hunter, something Peri didn’t deny. Although she promised not to tell anyone, Yasmine couldn’t stand to see Hunter celebrating his Brother’s engagement whilst Peri was so upset and confronted him in front of their friends. Unfortunately, Prince put his foot in it when he wrongly assumed that Yasmine was talking to him and for the second time in the space of a week, Lily was left in tears thanks to Prince. Of course, it didn’t take too long for the parents/aunties to find out and the trio of Leela, Diane and Myra, who had bonded over cake earlier in the week, found themselves brawling in the village! As the week drew to a close, Peri booked herself a hospital appointment but was left shocked when she was told that she wasn’t actually pregnant...
Elsewhere, Sami’s presence in his and Ellie’s lives continued to annoy James and, keen to discredit the newcomer, he attempted to do some digging online. Meanwhile, Ellie and Sami were getting closer but she got upset when he began pushing her for information about Mac and ran off. Sami felt bad for upsetting her and later turned up at The Dog with flowers before opening up about his Father’s death. The pair ended up in bed together but Sami was left concerned when Ellie began talking about Mac and James in her sleep and tried to get her to open up about what was bothering her. Whilst Ellie refused to talk to Sami, she was willing to talk to Farrah for her research project. As Ellie began opening up, Farrah got way more than she bargained for when Ellie confessed to being responsible for the attack on Mac. Wanting to protect her Brother, Farrah told Sami that Ellie needed genuine help and suggested he stay well away from her. Interest well and truly piqued, Sami snuck into Farrah’s office and stole the recording she’d made of her and Ellie’s chat...
Finally, Tony discovered that Harry was working as a prostitute whilst Darcy made progress with Toby when she promised him a holiday using Tom’s inheritance.
5 Things We Learnt This Week:
1. Farrah’s office security is shocking! She works with vulnerable people! She shouldn’t be keeping private recordings in unlocked drawers where her Brother can easily find them!
2. Toby should be kept away from cake sales at all costs. Poor Adam was driven to distraction as he attempted to deal with the resulting sugar high!
3. When it comes to baking cakes, Leela’s no Mary Berry.
4. According to Diane, Peri’s a reality show waiting to happen. Bit ‘pot calling the kettle black’ if you ask me. Diane’s life’s hardly normal.
5. With the amount of flowers he sent this week, Sami is surely single handedly keeping all of the florists in Chester in business.
