Vines compilation inspired by a Hazbin Hotel fanfiction called Demon Summoning and Other Neat Party Tricks by @whimsywillowwrites ! It's SO GOOD, I highly recommend any HH fan check it out, just make sure to read the content warnings because it deals with some heavy topics. Clips in this video are not in chronological order and contain spoilers for the story, so be warned.
P.S. Willow I now only think of this fanfic whenever I hear Owl City, and I am not upset by it.
🌷 Demon Summoning & Other Neat Party Tricks FAQ 🌷
Art by Khajeel3
Finally sat down to address the most common questions I receive for Demon Summoning & Other Neat Party Tricks! I'll leave this pinned and update as needed. Thank you for checking it out! ( ˊᵕˋ )ノ~♡
Here's an art piece I've been working on for a while inspired by the Hazbin Hotel fanfiction Demon Summoning and Other Neat Party Tricks by @whimsywillowwrites . I do believe that Imogen and Alastor will become close again, but it will take time (and character development on Alastor's part). I’m sorry it’s so sad 😭, I have more cute and wholesome ones planned for later, I promise. The fic made me feel a lot of things, so this art was an outlet to help me process what the FUCK just happened (lovingingly, because this fic is one of the best things I've read on AO3 🫶).
Emotionally distant men and their (accidentally) adopted psychic daughters.
What inspired you to start writing the demon summoning fic? Did you already have an idea or did you come up with it in the spot?
I wish I could tell you, haha! I had a random idea about a little girl trying to summon a hellhound in her driveway and accidentally summoning Alastor instead. I immediately texted my friend about it because it made me laugh, and she thought it was funny too. It all just kind of snowballed from there!
This was also before the show came out, and I was extremely hyperfocused on the pilot and the Day In The Afterlife comic. Alastor was my favorite character, so I knew I wanted it to be a Hazbin fic. I would say the Alastor in the fic is definitely more Pilot/comic inspired than the one from the show. I also love magic and witches, so I knew I wanted Imogen to be a young witch.
Fun fact, but I rewrote that first chapter twice! It started in Imogen's POV but then Alastor's voice was SUPER LOUD (*cough cough* radio demon *cough*), so I steadily began changing it to his. I also couldn't figure out what he was doing before he was summoned, but I knew I wanted it to be something dumb, haha! So, I skipped it and started drafting Chapter 2 and then had the idea with his argument with Angel Dust a few months later. Sometimes ideas be like that. 🙂↕️
What specific city/town in Illinois does Imogen and her mother actually live in? An hour away from Chicago, vast countryside? I did some research and found a few options, but the description of the actual place is hard to pinpoint.
There's no specific real town, it's a fictional place. I've never said what it's called because I haven't figured out a name I like lol! You can just assume it's an hour outside of Chicago.
I don’t quite recall if you’ve already answered a question akin to this— BUT!!
I am curious about the history of Mallory, Imogen, and Nora Jean. Have they always been Hellaverse-OCs or were they already their own characters that were adapted to the narrative’s world? They all have such charming personalities and I’m just curious how your brilliant mind crafted these creatures.
Thank you for writing and hope you have a lovely day, or night, or whenever you’re reading this!
Hey! Thank you so much for the kind words! I don't think anyone has ever asked me about how I developed my characters, so thank you for asking! I apologize in advance if I get rambly. 😩
All my OCs were created for this fanfic! I drafted the first 5-ish chapters without posting them anywhere, so for about six months, everything was in my own private bubble. I think I really learned a lot about Imogen during that time. I LOVE writing dialog, so I would be at work and funny scenarios would randomly pop into my head. I'd write them down and send them to my friends, then go back and develop it more later. Imogen's voice was very loud during that time, so I naturally learned more about her as I went.
I think I also just loved the idea of throwing someone like Imogen at Alastor: someone who can read people's emotions when he's someone who keeps his true thoughts VERY close to the chest! Throw in some life experiences he can relate to and someone who adores dogs ... and well. 😂
Oliver's voice came easily since he's very much the opposite of Imogen. (Careful, anxious, bit of a goody-two-shoes, etc) Kids in general are fun to write since they don't see the world as adults do.
Nora Jean's personality is inspired by my great grandma and my writing mentor. I wouldn't call her a "character insert," as she's still very much a fictional character, but she's sassy and fierce like my mentor, grew up in Oklahoma and does everything for the sake of her family like my gran, etc. Buuut then you start to ask fun questions like ... okay, this is a character who loves her family, but this is also someone who is a witch and very proud of that fact. She loves Imogen and Mallory, but the way she goes about protecting them is questionable. Then fun stuff starts to happen.
Mallory is a character very close to home for me! I always knew that I didn't want her to be evil, and I knew I wanted her to be a witch. The dead plants were subtle foreshadowing, which hopefully people can go back and notice now.
I also went through a very bad depression at one point in my life and couldn't write anything. It was terrible and confusing, as writing is always something I loved to do. I ended up putting a lot of myself into Mallory in that regard. Her pattern of abusive relationships is also inspired by someone in my life, without getting too personal. Complicated family relationships is also something I can relate to.
So I guess to answer your question, I tend to write about a lot of things I experience or know about, then as the story keeps going, I throw in a bunch of original ideas and they become their own characters as the story develops. I could go on and on probably, LOL, but I hope that answers your question! 💖
