Every so often I will pick up a Ducobu album in a bookstore and be reminded of how much Godi and Zidrou COOKED with that central character dynamic like WHAT DO YOU MEAN—
Léonie: brilliant kid who was made to believe by her mom and teacher that her entire worth was determined by her academic performance and is now burnt out and socially stunted as a result. Perceives her desk neighbour copying her work as deeply unjust since she sees her ability to produce good grades as the only thing she has going for her. Is autistic.
Ducobu: brilliant kid who refuses to buy into the notion that his worth is determined by his academic performance despite being consistently put down by his teacher because of his low grades. Has vowed to never put any effort whatsoever into studying as an act of defiance as well as a coping mechanism and perceives his desk neighbour as deeply misguided but ultimately helpful since he can copy her work. Is also autistic.
