I’m actually excited for Dumbo 2019
Okay so here’s the thing. I love Tim Burton. He’s made so so many of my favorite movies, movies that are just objectively amazing, and even the Tim Burton movies I’m not a huge fan of (his Alice in Wonderland, and even to a slight point, his Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) are still beautiful to look at. Here was my concern though(and I think a lot of peoples concern) was that is was going to be a lot like his most recent movies, imo, spoopy hot topic dumbo with Johnny Depp plastered on there in the lead roll...
I would have been willing to give it a shot if it was, but for a while now I’ve been feeling like (in my unpopular opinion) the last couple of Tim Burton’s movies have been blending in together in style. If you notice, most of his movies aside from the more recent ones are very stylistically different from each-other. They all have a similar feel obviously, but you could never confuse one for the other. Here are some good examples
They’re all very over the top and cartoony, but also very different. And that’s exactly why I’m feeling really good about Dumbo 2019. The feel, color palate, style, and even Danny Elfman’s score sound so light and vintage feeling. Much like another great Tim Burton movie that a lot of people leave out...
Big Fish. I really enjoyed this movie when I finally got around to watching it in my late teens. (When I was a kid I thought it looked boring, but I was a kid lol) It’s very different in style but it still has that Tim Burton feel. It even has a circus scene with the character Colossus (played by a family friend George McArthur aka George the Giant... He has a tiny Chihuahua that can get out of a straight jacket. That’s a fun fact for you)
And no, I don’t just like it because I can point at the screen and say “I know that guy, his dog is cute” The movie is beautiful, light, nostalgic, and just makes you happy.
And that’s what I think this version of Dumbo is gonna be. Not only does it look like it’s going to be whimsical but also bright and uplifting, JHONNY DEPP (wife beating asshole) IS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND
