Ngl, I wished the 2019 Dumbo remake did a better hommage to the crows in that movie. It may have been racist, back in 1941, to have white people voice them and have one of the crows (the main one with the cigar) called ''Jim Crow''. But think about it. These crows were sympathetic aids to Dumbo. The firsts, after Timothy, to show empathy and lend a helping wing to him. They are far from a racist caricature. It's actually a remarkable thing for the original Dumbo to do, as it came out in a era in which Jim Crow laws were still in place. Frankly, Disney, besides that small centaurette in Fantasia, did a pretty good job compared to the Warner Brothers.

I would have loved to see a group of black men, or just some people (varied in ethnicity, for example) dressed a tiny bit like the crows and saying a sentence that the crows would have said. That would have been a far better nod to the importance of those characters than the slight reference we got in 2019 Dumbo. I understand that times changed and for the good. But still, these crows were such major characters in the original Dumbo. It would have been only fair that they got a cameo of some sorts, without being a derogatory caricature.

Thoughts on the Dumbo remake: 

- Dumbo is the fuckin cutest little elephant ever created 1000000000/10 literally why were there any other characters

- All the human characters: whack!

- Danny Devito and Colin Farrell can stay but they’re on thin ice

- Less racist than the original, which is positive, but Tim Burton directed it so i’m not convinced 

- Pink elephants scene was lit

- In film version of Baby Mine; mediocre but still made me cry

- Very obvious product placement of Dumbo plushies you can buy at the disney store

- where the fuck was the aurora version of Baby Mine??????? Bullshit!!!

So Burton’s idea for this cruel tale of animal abuse, child abuse, social ostracization, and uncomfortable racial stereotypes was to get rid of Timothy Mouse (already one of the most underappreciated characters in all Disneydom) and replace him with two generic kids?

Who was responsible for reuniting Dumbo and his mother for the “Baby Mine” scene in the first place

Who, on two separate occasions, defended Dumbo against bullies with a loud and well deserved chewing out

No, not all of his ideas worked, but unlike, say, a certain Cricket, he never walked out or gave up. I already knew this “Dumbo” movie was going to suck (Of all the Disney canon, why would you remake “Dumbo”?) but this?
