Morpheus never got to know his father. He would have loved to know what he was like in person. He could only imagine what he was like through the stories his mother would tell him. Judging by what his mother saids, he seem to be a great man.

[Ashval approaches Ald Sotha; he’s not properly dressed for the ash, still half asleep. He slips inside.] [Performing the rites, lighting incense, saying the traditional prayers…] Why am I doing this? It’s not like you’ll answer me… [He begins to pace around the shrine] I can’t keep going on like this… I’m not- I’m not capable; I can’t love, I can’t stay… I’m terrified they’ll be like you… or worse, that I’ll be like you… [he stops, staring at the dagger his father had left for her last time] I don’t understand it… Why did you never have mercy for me? You were the Mercy Mother, but you never had any mercy for your own son… If you did, you would’ve killed me that day, sent me off to the far reaches of Oblivion. [he inhales sharply] Instead you left me alive, but it wasn’t mercy; I was alone… I had nothing. I was nothing. [tears are filling his eyes] When I was a child, gods, when I was a young man, I thought you loved me. I-I was sure of it; I’m not sure now. [he licks his lips, swallowing heavily] [silence fills the room, and Ashval’s anger begins to rise; the ground shakes beneath him, or perhaps that's just his frame] I don’t know why I’m expecting you to answer me! You barely talked to me by the end of it! You treated me like a toy, not a person! An accessory! A means to an end! And when I ceased to be of use, you threw me away! How could you throw me away? [he inhales shakily, tears falling down his cheeks] hu- I-I was your son. I tried to be perfect. I did everything I could so that you would be proud of me… I made my body a weapon; I memorized every treatise, every route, every problem that Morrowind had. All for you… I wasn’t selfish- [another inhale] - I was obedient and intelligent and well-liked, and I married the woman you wanted me to, even though I hated her, even though I was in love with someone else. [he pauses, trying to stop the flow of tears] I was the perfect son… and you barely even talked to me; the only time you did was to scold me. And most of the time you didn’t even have the decency to do it yourself; you sent your stone-fire damned Archcanon to do it… [he spitting out the words at this point] You pretended like I didn't exist for thousands of years... All I wanted was for you to love me! But you didn’t; I don’t think you could. Why…? Why- Why’d you have a child you weren’t prepared to love? [Ashval tries to breathe, but tears fall instead]
It’s quiet in the inn room, the candlelight painting the room golden. The world seems peaceful, though war looms around the corner. Ashval is leaning on Marius, their legs tangled together from their previous activities. Ashval feels the imperial shift under him, reaching to grab something. “Ashval, I’ve been thinking…” Ashval moves away from him, he teases him sleepily, “Well we wouldn’t want that, you could hurt yourself…” “Heh, I’m serious, we’ve been seeing eachother on and off for five years now…” Marius trails off. His body stiffens, he’s fully alert now, eyes wide. “Marius..” Marius, presents his hand, a ring sitting in the center of it, “Ashval will you-” before he can finish, Ashval curls Marius’ hand into a fist, he shakes his head, both his hands holding Marius’ own. “-wha?” he asks. “Don’t finish that sentence, don’t ask this of me, please…” “But- Ash, why? Did I do something wrong?” Marius begs. “No, no, you didn't, it's me. Marius, you are amazing, truly, you deserve someone amazing to spend your life with…” Ashval, stand ups, “that’s not me; I’m not- I’ve got a pretty face, a good body, and I’m a nice lay, but I’m just. not the marrying kind.” Marius stands up too, pulling on Ashval’s arm as the mer goes to grab his clothes, “What do you mean ‘not the marrying kind.’ You’re more than a good lay, you’re intelligent, and funny, and I like spending time with you… I don’t want someone else.” Ashval feels the panic setting in, he’s been a fucking idiot here… he pulls his arm away and starts getting dressed. “I’m just not, I’ve fucked this up, I shouldn’t have kept coming back, I’m sorry Marius, you’ll do better without me, I shouldn’t have come back… I truly am sorry.” “Wait, don’t go, we can talk about this!” He pulls Ashval back, “We can go back to the way things were, just forget I said anything, Ash, I love you, I want you…” The mer shakes his head, he’s crying a little bit, “You shouldn’t, you really, really, shouldn’t.” Ashval pulls away once more, and slips into the inn’s hall, “Ash! Ash, please!” but it’s too late, he’s already gone.
Ashval awakens with tears running down his cheeks. “Fetch…” he sits up in bed, wiping his tears, “Why couldn’t I stay?”
Recently started playing D&D in a homebrew world, so naturally I adapted Novra to better suit into this world.
Did some art of her too which you can see above, and missing some of her tattoos and warpaint as I imagine this being a younger version of her.
This book will definitely be my replacer for a character sheet :)
What the fuck does it mean when a vampire tells you your blood is rich?
[Ashval is covered in hickeys]
Don’t look at the hickeys, answer me.
