ok I missed a few days but I got it done eventually! “Betrayal” “Memory”. It can be argued it’s “sharp” as well. I hope Orins braid is visible the illithid colony gives weird lighting

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. Am I not the daughter you wished for? Am I not the daughter that you wanted? Am I not your weapon? Am I not murder turned flesh?

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. Do I not provide you death in groves? Do I not provide you with enough slaughter? Do I not give everything to receive your praise? Do I not live up to your expectations?

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. Why did you make me? Why do I feel like my efforts are never going to be enough? Why do I feel the weight of the world on my shoulders? Why do you need me without any feelings or love?

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. When will I be enough? When will my efforts be sufficient? When will the taint of your disapproval not weigh me down? When will I be able to live a life on my own?

Durgecember - Day 4: Betrayal, Sharp, Memory

I barely made it back to our room, vision swimming at the edges, the world turning soft and swollen as though viewed through water. I didn’t hear the door close behind me. I didn’t register much of anything—until the memory struck.

It rose sudden and brutal, slicing through me so sharply my knees buckled. I collapsed, retching, coughing, choking on breath that refused to come. For a heartbeat—two, three—I thought my skull might crack apart from the pressure.

Then the images came.

The scent of jasmine and mulberry, faint but unmistakable.

Dark hair brushing my cheeks as I pressed my lips to the curve of her neck.

The warmth of her hand in mine.

The way my heart leapt at the sight of her smile.

I knew, instantly and without question, that I had loved her. Deeply and completely.

And then—nothing. Blackness, sudden and absolute.

When my vision returned, I was back on the floor of our room, Gale at my side, his hand firm and trembling on my shoulder. He was speaking softly, but the words scattered before they reached my mind.

I tried to answer, to tell him something, anything, but only gasps and broken coughs escaped me. My vision blurred again, and the memories surged anew—

Her unbelievably soft lips on mine.

Her body, warm and alive beneath my hands.

And then her body again, but laid out on the altar of Bhaal.

Naked. Terrified. Crying. Her wrists and ankles bound.

Her eyes wide with fear.

A man stood beside her, smiling with a cruel delight I felt in my marrow. I did not know his name, but my soul recoiled from him. And beneath everything, beneath the terror and confusion, a single, horrifying certainty: I would be the one to kill her.

It made no sense.

I tried to scream, to beg for her life, but the memory drowned me.

A sharp sting on my cheek dragged me back—

back into my body,

back into the dim light of the Elfsong,

back into the shaking wreckage of myself.

Halsin knelt in front of me, his hand cupping my jaw, grounding me, his eyes holding mine with fierce, unyielding tenderness.

“Deep breaths, Celeste,” he ordered gently. “We are here with you. Breathe.”
