The planet was… orange. Not like the Earth with its blues and greens. Not unlike Gallifrey with its reds and some oranges. But, just more so. It was a lively planet, too. A little more like Earth in that regard, he supposed. Ugh, just thinking about that shitty planet made him sick. The Doctor was rubbing off on him, always making him compare everything to it.
He really hated to admit it, but this planet was a lot like Earth, though. Like, a lot. The inhabitants looked similar (granted, so did he but, oh well) and even the flora and fauna. It also smelled like Earth, but not… there was something very specific going on here, he just couldn't quite place a finger on it.
He strolled through the streets of the town he had nearly crashed into, looking around at all the straw and pumpkins. The leaves on all the trees were many shades of orange (shocker) and some yellows or reds. There were also some delightfully macabre decorations strewn about - skeletons or other monsters. He felt at home here.
The Master wore a bright smile on his face as he came to a halt at a large heap of wood, piled about two times his hight high and with a bigger, more solid looking trunk sticking out in the middle. Soon more people started gathering around the pile, chatting away about how great of a blessing this years fire would bring.
They went on about how the one they picked for this year was an especially wretched creature and how sacrificing them would surely appease the gods. So you know, normal chatter among lower species. He had almost stopped paying attention but what caught his interest was that they sacrificed 'wretched creatures'.
He was used to burning bad people to cleanse their souls or sacrificing only the purest souls to appease their gods, or you know, other nonsense like that. The Master turned to the two locals whose conversation he'd been listening in on. "What would your gods want with a wretched being? Why not give them someone good?"
The old women laughed, shrill and croaking. "You will find no one like that here. We are giving them the best of us, a truly horrible person." The Master's face lit up - had he finally found the place for him? A place of pure evil?
Without another word he walked away to find this person. He was too curious what this world considered horrible to let them burn this person before he got to talk to them. After some time of walking around somewhat aimlessly, he stopped and asked someone where he would have to go.
Before he could get there though, he heard an outraged man speaking at full volume to the same guards he was approaching. "What do you mean they escaped? Find them! If we don't burn them at the stake tonight we will all be plunged into a decade of bad fortunes!" Now this was getting interesting.
Immediately he turned on his heels and walked into a new direction, now scanning the whole town for places to hide. After a few moments he realised how well let the town was, and with everyone looking now, he wouldn't find this person too close by.
He wandered into a nearby forest, looking out for any hollow tree trunks or perhaps a little hut in one of the orange trees. It took him some looking but eventually, he found the entrance to a little cave. As The Master entered he was instantly face to face with a weapon - a baseball bat? Attached to the thing were you, looking at him with furrowed brows and a determined look on your face.
"Who are you? Why were you looking for me?" He grinned at that, now completely ignoring the bat you were still threatening him with. "You may call me The Master and I've heard only bad things about you. So much so that they're planning to burn you at the stake? Sounds kind of rude to me."
You lowered your weapon as you realised he simply didn't give a shit either way. Also, if he wanted to rat you out he would have already done so. "Yeah, well, they always pick the one with the highest criminal record, like a sort of reward. Be the worst and you get to hang out with the gods. I don't care about them though, I want to do my biggest accomplishment yet."
You were starting to feel that rush again just from talking about it - the rush of doing terrible things. "I did as much bad as I could this year to make sure they'd pick me and now? Now I'll let them sit in it - with no one to sacrifice they'll have to deal with at least a decade of misfortune. How horrible is that?!" You grinned wickedly and The Master couldn't help but do the same.
"My, that does sound like an amazing plan. How are you going to deal with the misfortune though?" You furrowed your brows again, just for a second. "I'll profit from it. Bad luck makes people so awfully vulnerable to being exploited." The Master hummed in agreement.
However, and considering how easily he had found this cave it wasn't all that surprising, their conversation was cut short as an arrow flew into the cave, narrowly missing both of your heads. You saw The Master's eyes sparkle for a second before he told you to follow him. He was a strange man, but he seemed to agree with your plan so who were you to judge.
The two of you ran for what felt like a long time, even running through the town square at one point, pissing everyone off in the process. You couldn't help a breathless laugh escaping you then, although it quickly caused you to have stitch. It didn't matter though, because as another string of arrows were fired your way you followed him around a sharp corner.
And then, you were inside a very strange room. Not like anything you had ever seen before. You heard a door fall shut behind you and when you turned you saw him again. He grinned at you again and this time you were no longer so sure that following him had been a good idea.
"Let me take you somewhere. Your mind seems to be working in such a terrible way and I'd just love to wreak some havoc with you." Your eyes widened with mischief but as you were about to agree, taking in a breath caused a sharp sting in your side, sharped then it should from the running.
You put your hand to your side and when it came back into view you saw that it was covered in blood. One of the arrows must have grazed you. The Master looked vaguely annoyed as he stepped closer. "Even your blood is orange. That's just excessive."
