It was so shocking that parents felt so scared because of me being in the girl’s bathroom. I mean, what do you think am I going to do? Trans people are worried about their bathroom privacy more than anyone. We are the ones at risk of being raped or sexually assaulted. It’s happened to me before. I’m not hurting anyone. I am just simply using and expressing my rights as a human being using the girl’s restroom.

Change: One girls journey being transgender

"My name is DW Trantham. I am like many other teens. I like makeup, mermaids and fashion, but I've seen a bit more adversity than other 13 year old girls because I am a transgender 13 year old girl. After suffering through much bullying at school and in the general community, I decided to take a stand not only for myself, but also for others like me. I approached Idaho On Your Side with my story last year and they've been with me throughout my journey since then. On January 27, 2015, I was honored to be given the opportunity to speak before a legislative committee on House Bill 2 to "Add the Words" sexual orientation and gender identity to the Idaho Human Rights Act."

Transgender teen stands up to a room of ignorant bigots in Idaho 

For the past nine years Idahoans have refused to include gender identity and sexual orientation in their Human Rights Act.

That was before the testimony of 13-year-old D.W. Trantham, who spoke passionately about needing protections as a young trans girl in a transphobic world on Monday during a public hearing at the state capitol building.

Her father's words are equally moving
