IDEA Alternative DESIGN X 2000
IDEA Alternative DESIGN X 2000 Pt.02
Here's a video of the Guest Speakers Panel from JAMcon at New College Nottingham, filmed a few months ago, where I sit alongside Tomato's Dylan Kendle and Wellplastic's Ian Tatham as we discuss our work and experiences in the creative industry.
Design development for The Economist for billboard campaign.
Dylan Kendle from the design group, Tomato came into talk to us about the group itself and about his own work. I thought that the projects Tomato had created were amazing due to scale and craft. I have posted an earlier example that explains this. I really like his personal work as it comes across almost three dimensional, something that really captures the eye when viewing them.
Guest Lecturer Dylan Kendle of Tomato Collective came and spoke to us about his work, the collective and the reality of the industry. Tomato works with fashion, music, design and any interlinking ways to be culturally approachable and exciting. They love physical work and their variety of campaigns and videos show their versatility.
A few of the pieces show to us that particularly stood out to me were the Redtop Haiku pieces crafted from newspaper headings:
and Nostalgia which features a lot of practical work with creating an emotional response to music using sound and digital 3D elements:

Kendle encouraged us to play and keep making and also said
"Take away experience when it goes wrong"
as the industry will rarely be perfect for us and we should learn from doing things we don't like or don't go as expected.
A very interesting lecture with a great variety of work that has really inspired me and others to work collectively to create and have fun with design.

Today we had a guest lecturer by Dylan Kendle http://www.dylankendle.com/ who is a designer, director, and partner of the multidisciplinary design collective at Tomato.
I was really engaged in his work, he does some fantastic type - prints which work very effectively. The Tomato company based in London was also very helpful to learn about, the projects they have taken on are well produced and have been well panned out over the several years the company has been running.
My favourite part of the lecture was the installation/sculpture called 'Water For Life' . The building which the installation took place was Torre del Agua ("Water Tower") made by Enrique de Teresa. The concept was 1km height of stairs where people could engage in the sculpture. However, to keep up an incentive by going all the way, there were over 100 videos played and every 12 minutes water would pour to be a sign to move on. I think this is a rather beautiful and tranquil piece. It has inspired me for the group installation we're doing right now at AUB Viscom.
