xuan and io for the dynamics? 👀👀👀

MY TWO FAVOURITES ALSO HAVE A FAVOURITE DYNAMIC OF MINE :D This dynamic VASTLY changes depending on where we are in canon, so I'll make one based on their first impressions to avoid spoilers!

What Captain Io thinks of Captain Xuân (initially):

Io is a high-ranking captain of the British Royal Navy, what do you think her opinion is of a chaotically unpredictable, infamously violent pirate captain?

Io hasn't really met Xuân before, so her opinion is based solely on rumours and propaganda: to her, Xuân is an insane fiend with a terrible love of unnecessarily killing and torturing people, and an overly tacky obsession with hoarding treasure.

Xuân also seems to her to be highly immature and childish despite the act of formality and suave confidence they put on--an act Io doesn't believe in the least.

Io isn't scared of Xuân at all, except in the unlikely (but canon) situation were she is left injured and completely defenseless in front of them.

What Captain Xuân thinks of Captain Io (initially):

How in Forest's name was this pretentious spoiled brat actually close to my previous friend what the f*ck kind of pufferfish toxin was she on

Okay really though this kid was just seriously neglected I'm gonna punch your dad to the stars when we find him

Xuân can't help but think of Io as a little emotionally stunted child because their own aging was super weird and they can tell there's some magic shenanigans at work here too.

And then immediately they want to protecc and keep safe the child

Unfortunately they also constantly forget Io exists so uh. That does not happen very much. :S

ALSO Xuân is still trying to keep up the pretense that they're really just holding Io hostage and being a mean villain as the rumours say they are so... their interactions are Exceedingly Odd at first.

ANYWAYS I LOVE THEM BOTH. There's definitely a mutual respect (and begrudging friendship!!!) later on but aside from that I shall leave the rest for when you read the story :D

celestine & captain xuan for the dynamics game? if u haven’t gotten that one already!

[Send two names of my OCs and I’ll give a summary of what they think of each other!]

Captain Xuân and Celestine both have amnesia with the same cause: unlike each other, however, Xuân's amnesia is anterograde, which means they have difficulty forming new memories after the event that caused it. Celestine's is the more common retrograde amnesia, meaning she can't easily remember much of what happened before (or during) the event.

Xuân remembers who Celestine was and what she did in perfect detail.

Celestine doesn't recognize anything about Xuân. :c

This will contain some spoilers as to the backstories of these two, so under the cut we go!

What Celestine thinks of Captain Xuân:

“Moron. You’re a moron,” I finished. Their gaze flicked back to me, puzzled. I bared a fang. “I don’t like you.”

Celestine doesn't actually think Xuân's a moron (rather, they seem eerily aware of things to her...), but she definitely starts out with a strong dislike for the pirate captain.

They're too loud! Too flamboyant! Too reckless and childish and honestly scary because of that! (They have so many weapons on them at all times!! What happens when they snap?!)

And that they seem to have this obsession with her, where they focus so much on her and treat her like a little kid and act so different towards her than everyone else--Celestine hates it.

Celestine doesn't like attention anyways, being used to sneaking around and stealing borrowing things, and she's not a child! It's humiliating!

What Captain Xuân thinks of Celestine:

Xuân's memories of a younger version of Celestine are far more solid than any recent memories they form: as a consequence, they're continually confused when Celestine acts so hostile towards them--in Xuân's mind, Celestine is still an innocent, kind-hearted child who needs protecting.

Why doesn't she like Xuân's jokes anymore? Why doesn't she appreciate her offers of help and sweet and shiny things? Why doesn't she love their stories as she did before? What happened?

Celestine is their hero. She saved them. She was their last and first hope and their escape from a horrible place... so why does she act like they're now her enemy?

Angst is fun to write, that's why. c:<

For the character relationship game I would ask Dione and Celestine!!

The history between these two is rather chock full of spoilers, so I'll see what I can give! Especially with Celestine, her character development through the series means her opinion of other characters changes quite drastically! Here's what her initial views on Dione are after briefly getting to know her, though:

Celestine on Dione:

Magic thief. That's not yours, what siren did you steal it from, huh?

Celestine has never encountered a human with innate magic before. Based on the little of her recollections from her early life, she's fairly certain that means Dione stole the magic from somewhere, and though a thief herself, taking magic is a BIG nono.

She also knows Dione is hiding... a lot, and her suspicion is really not helping her dislike of the sea witch.

Upon learning more about her, Celestine's opinion only worsens: not only is Dione someone with a guilt complex about things she's not willing to reveal, but her control over her magic is menial at best, and the fact that she's constantly being followed by a talking dog that won't shut up isn't helping her case.

Dione on Celestine:

Dione sometimes forgets that you shouldn't treat people like case studies. Celestine is the source of a lot of new information for her, and she's rather conflicted over how to interact with her.

Not the mention that Dione's social anxiety isn't a big help here. ^^'

But Dione also knows, or, er... knew Celestine when she was younger. And she has an innate desire to protect her and keep her from harm, no matter the dislike she holds of how rude the siren acts.

Celestine acts like a spoiled brat a lot, though.

Xuan and Io for the character interaction game if you haven't done that pair yet?

[Send two names of my OCs and I’ll give a summary of what they think of each other!]

I have actually done Xuân and Io before! Seems to me that they're a popular duo. :D You can find my detail of their dynamic here, but I'll give out some fun facts on them, too!

FUN FACT ONE: These two have a kinda convoluted relation before even meeting each other! See, waaayyy back long before Celestine entered the picture, and even before Io had been born, Dione and Io's father Víðarr were actually allies/friends of a sort, and definitely in cahoots about a whole bunch of weirdo magic stuff going on.

And considering Dione and Xuân are half-siblings... this technically makes Io the honorary niece to Xuân.

This IS indeed brought up in canon and Xuân teases Io mercilessly about it.

FUN FACT TWO: Somewhere in the second half of Two Witches Woven, Xuân and Io both wash up weaponless in a small fishing village, far away from their ships and allies with no way of contacting them. Because of injuries (and other reasons I can't spoil~), the two are basically stuck there, so they have to try and work together to convince the entire village that they're nothing but innocent souls with not a crime to their name.

Xuân, a lover of theatre (and fairly good at it, too), takes on the guise of a weak and crippled senior with a love of telling overly-exaggerated stories about their past ventures (that honestly might be true, but no one believes them).

Io just tries her best not to kill anyone over how many times she's mistaken for a child.

It's absolutely friggin' hilarious, and I'm very excited to finish writing it~

Hii! I'm not very informed in the whole d/s thing yet, but I've seen that some ppl like to keep that dynamic out of the bedroom/sex too. Do you know about it? And could you explain it a lil bit? I just don't understand why/how that would work :oThank you! Love your blog <3

A lot of the Dom and Sub relationship is actually more about how everything goes besides sex.

In what kinda degree is different to each dynamic.

Me and S. Have a very light version of it as I will put it like that. She'll take the lead, make me feel safe, protected.

Will reward me for my small task that I maybe don't feel like doing.

But the rewards aren't sexual, they are the being called a good girl, the smiling at me, the being told I'm doing so good.

Those things can be anywhere from go up to take my meds, to when I'm like ''no I don't wanna get up and pee but I need to pee but no'' to her telling a couple times like do it. But I only listen when she says it more stern like ''c'mon be a good girl for me''. When I am with her physically she likes to get me my meds herself.

It's about the ordering for you in a restaurant, grabbing your hand, standing in front of you like a shield when you're to shy.

Most of the time it also goes with the Dom collaring a sub (which is not necessary always literally a collar) which is a little way of showing ''you're mine'' and from the sub's side they love belonging and are always proud to show of that we do, it also makes them more secure.

You have the ''heavier'' dynamic, that really go about basically everything the sub does like doing tasks in the house, showering, what they should wear that day, how their make up should be...

BUT don't read this as oh they make the sub do all those things because of laziness and controlling.

No, a lot of sub's like the full control. There are many that don't want life's choices, and the Dom helping them make them, makes them very safe.

The Dom will also learn what the sub likes, what they should do for their own health, mind wise and body wise. And just want their sub's to be the best version of themselves they could be. They take the ''burden'' of life's choices away. But do it the benefit the sub, it makes them happy.

While all a sub wants is to make their Dom happy, so it's a circle and it works!

It's a thing that each couple dynamic has to find their own way in 😊

ooo xuan and sindre for the character dynamics??

[Send two names of my OCs and I’ll give a summary of what they think of each other!]

Okay, okay, I love these two very much, but disclaimer that “Sindre” is uh. Tricky. To talk about sometimes, and his identity contains a bit for spoilers.

”Sindre” goes by quite a few names, and can notably shift his appearance due to his skill with illusion magic. When Captain Xuân first meets him (about the middle of book two), he’s going by the name “Runi” and has a very different role from the one he did in book one. But when Xuân is made aware that their new companions recognize this “Runi” as a Navy officer, uh...

They may or may not hold him at swordpoint and threaten to take his life. So, how's that for first impressions?

Without revealing too much, here’s a run-down of Xuân’s perception of Runi after realizing his other identity:

Xuân is very, very paranoid around Runi. They hate illusion magic with a passion and the distrust caused by the fact that Runi could be hiding so much more really sets them on edge.

They’d never say so, though! All anyone would notice is that they seem to immediately lose their humour and playfulness when Runi enters the room--also maybe that they have him pinned with a death glare--but no one could say why. (Especially since Runi seems so weak-willed and nervous? Just generally not a threat at all?)

Xuân doesn’t outright avoid or ignore Runi, especially because they know he has knowledge and experience they don’t that could be helpful to listen to. But they certainly scrutinize every single thing he says or does with maximum suspicion.

Also they just really hate authority figures aside from themself.

Meanwhile, Runi’s opinion of Xuân:

Oh they scary ono’

Runi’s pretty much frightened of everyone though so, not much different there

But seriously! Runi is a lot more perceptive than what people think. He knows the culture Xuân originates from takes pride in their pacifism--so why is Xuân so vehemently against that? Why do they seek and create so much chaos and violence?

Runi is... confused by Xuân. He wonders at what could’ve caused them so much pain (both mental and physical) that they’re affected by it so many years later. He’s not sure he wants to know, but he wishes he could help...

Not that Xuân would ever let him near them ^^’

This was difficult! A lot of the relationship between these two hinges on major spoilers, so I’m afraid the lists are rather repetitive and sparse! Either way though, thank you for the ask, lovely! <3

I immediately thought "MARLIN" at the typo and I was like "no Io's the marlin" but then I also corrected myself and was like NO Io's a sailfish but they're pretty similar shh

Anyways onto actually something understandable XD

Celestine's and Caelin's opinions of each other are EXCEEDINGLY different. As what is easy to guess based on their drastically contrasting personality. XD It’s basically a cat and dog relationship (and not ones that get along!)

Again, the dynamic changes a lot based on where we are in canon, as expected! So here's their initial dynamic~

What Caelin thinks of Celestine (initially):

Spanish girl with magic (and much anger)! Girl that's actually... a siren??? SIREN THAT ISN'T A LITTLE GIRL AT ALL AND IS ACTUALLY PRETTY SCARY

She's really mean for someone so small... :c

Honestly, these two don't interact too much at all in the first book, with Caelin more or less trying to stay as far away as possible from the scary, angry siren person.

Once Caelin gets over the whole 'your people eat humans' thing, though, they get the impression Celestine has a lot more reason to be mean than they initially thought... and maybe she really isn't as mean as she tries to act.

What Celestine thinks of Caelin (initially):

A hapless, moronic excuse of a sailor that's currently stuck being a mutt because of their own stupidity.

I don't know if you're aware of this, folks, but Celestine... is not nice. Not Nice. No. She doesn't pay Caelin much mind (and mostly ignores them, to be honest), and only really uses them as a bargaining chip to get something she wants.

The amount of times Celestine takes advantage of Caelin's obliviousness and innate desire to be kind and helpful is horrible. :S

Also: Celestine really Does Not Like Dogs.

It doesn't get much better, tbh. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ They're just Like That.
